I really like the laid back style of these Charters family reviews. Your daughter seems very sweet....I love the father-daughter combo videos!
Really helpful rules, playthrough and review :) Thanks. *adds to wishlist*
I don't normally comment but in this case I will. What an awesome review! Superb explanation of the game, terrific gameplay, and great interaction throughout. I was looking for what this game is about and how it plays. I now know I'll be buying it for several of my family members. Thanks so much!
Just played, and had a good time. I do think something is missing as far as picking up the tiles. I would like to see something like a plunger or small magnetic fishing pole to pick them up.
Thank you both for sharing how to play this fun and strategic game!
Excellent - just got a copy of this and now know exactly what to do. You might consider also doing an edit that is shorter, not showing the whole game but just what is needed to play it as well. No worries though!
Great job, i have a daughter of similar age and your videos help me find games for us to play.
Very good review and organic format. It lets you see the essence of the game and its strategies when being live played.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid lost the password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
@Marley Emery instablaster ;)
Good job on the playthrough and review, thanks.
Great review. And timely too. I think this was on a recent Top 10 list so I was glad to find this.
With a name like that I thought the game involved actually stealing fish from the other players. That being said, it is surprisingly strategic for a game involving cartoon penguin!
Now i know why Jen is so charming. She's lithuanian! :) Greetings from Vilnius ;)
These videos are really helpful; they also add an element that we don't always see in the Dice Tower.
Surely you should end with each penguin stood on one fish, as there is no where for them to go? Or do they just dive into the 'sea'?
Thanks for the review and video
Really good review.
for $11 on amazon i couldn't pass the game up (unfortunately deluxe version is $100+), my kids 5yo but he's a pretty good checkers player so he should be able to pick up the rules. i'll paint the penguins up to make the game more aesthetically pleasing.
Hi !
Which edition has these fantastic penguins ? Everywhere I look they are basic one coloured penguins. Yours are fun ! Thanks for your help. F.
Actually Jen's pronunciation is closer to the original French, 'de luxe'; plus my pronouncing dictionary (Longman's) lists both 'de-lucks' and 'de-looks' as possible pronunciations. So go easy on the girl! ;)
I'm French. Actually, we don't pronounce the "u" in "de luxe" like a "oo" or even like the English "uh". I'm trying to think of words that have our "u" pronunciation in English, but I can't think of any. It's hard to explain here in a written comment. That being said, I can't argue with your 2nd statement.

You're right. The 'u' in 'de luxe' is not the same as any 'u' in English; phonemically, it's neither a 'ʊ' (as in 'put') nor a 'uː' (as in 'moon'). In fact, that phoneme is identified by the 'y' symbol in the IPA (which English doesn't have, so you can't find any word with that sound). However, my point still holds true; pronouncing 'de-looks' (/dəlʊks/) is nonetheless closer to your pronunciation.
But good on you for being positive and supporting Jen!
:-)
Now you gave proper rules before playing and hole video made sens compared to love letter. Good to show how quick game goes, nice opinions and in Lithuanian it is probably closer to say "delooxe" than "delacks" :)
I think you can't claim the last fishes on the last ice blocs the penguins are on. In other words, the penguin can't move so no fish.
Rulebook says: A player must move one of his penguins each turn. If he
cannot, his penguins have collected all the fish they can
and he does not take any more turns. He then removes his
penguins from the game board and adds the ice floes they
occupied to his collection.
I'm part Lithuanian.
I don't know if you write her script, but I thought Jen's opinions were more clearly articulated and ultimately more helpful. You need to step up your game, dad! ;-)
Script?? No such thing. I've long ago given up on trying to keep up with Jen or my other kids! :) Thanks for the kinds words....at least to Jen!
deluxe: \də.ˈlʌks\ or \də.ˈlʊks\ both valid, src: fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/deluxe
This looks like a great filler game to take a break from all the long dungeon-crawling games. Do you think adults playing by themselves would enjoy this as well?
+Jaehwa Jeong I have this game and I played with my friends (Im mid 30's). One of my friends bought the game immediately after playing it. So yes, its a good game for adults as well.
