Very important to always get a thickness test done on production pipe before welding.
Some pipes are worn down to 2mm.
If you get a thicknees test done at least your covered by insurance.
If pipe is badly worn out replacement is safer than patchwork.
Be safe and lookafter yourself cause to the companies your only a number.
Fernando Zarate we ultrasound pipe wall thickness before every welding on in service gas lines
@@KyleGraham92 we do too, even with that you can blow thru.we had a guy blow thru,
there was no big bang but there was a massive investigation.
The guy was sued by company, and left without a job.
Paperwork you sign is only to cover company from Liability.
Its always the workers fault
Pipes already been graded for the sleeve location. Sleeves run a about 5” past the anomaly for good metal sir
i dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Marcellus Donald instablaster :)
Lady’s and gentlemen always remember your system needs a high point and low point. Glad you touched on that subject a little. It is all relevant.Lots to learn in the trade besides learning how to weld out. Great video men.
Your wrong you can have to high points it don't matter it's sitting on 45 as long as the valve is at the highest point bingo done
Damn I love Mikes videos!! Always special content and excelent comentary/tutor. Weld on keep it up
I really enjoyed watching you do this in service test. I'm retired now from distribution and transmission lines lost my sight in my left eye. But still kind of table around a little bit on the equipment and whatnot. I've taken many a test over the years I'm from Houston originally and work for Lone Star Gas even work for Enron back in the day when before they went downhill worked on a lot of transmission stations. The Quality Auto turning out here on your videos is good. I can say I've been there and done that with no BS. You guys are telling it how it is in the field and it's even harder. Thank you felis I just stumbled on y'all a while back but enjoy any of the videos that you make. Take it from an old hand. Quality work takes quality Equipment you guys have got it I've run both machines. Be safe on your travels take care of each other. Mark Scott Shelby North Carolina
Great work Weldon. I am always happy to see professionals doing things i love. I wish to join you guys soon. i can't wait to become a welder.
I'm in my first year off stick welding in night school. This information will help me a lot. Thanks!
Youll do good work hard
Again guys, job well done. Very informative video. 💪👏💯
I like the hook cap on the jack for the chains. Way safer way of doing it compared to what I’ve had to do with a bottle jack and chain
El compa Pepis always gets down. I had the pleasure of working with him and he is a very talented and versatile welder. Great video guys.

I dis this work for 5 years back in tge 90's for texaco in california. We always put a 3 inch by 3/8 strip on the horizontal joint but on the outside of the sleeve. Tested out with a 2 inch and 12 inch saddle. Was a quicker fir up is all I'm saying. Didnt have to fight the backing strip. Carry on boys
In the miller I used to run, the remote represented the percentage of the amps that was set on the machine it was a handy function once I figured it out I don’t know if they are all like that
We’ve always called those “wedding bands” In 20 years in the field I have never seen one done with a backing plate like that. Learn something everyday.
Great video , nicely explained and fine performance, Great job, blessings..
We do alot of coffin patches in the oilsands ,love the bottle jack rig to hold the chins
Nice work guys, Thanks William Orange county, Ca.
Mr welder well done 👏👏there's joy in welding💪👍👍
Happy to be the 1k person after clicking the like button, great work guys...
That's awesome, never tried any in service work before
Awesome job guys 💪👍🙏
The high and low valve ports are for LOW point fill and HIGH point vent. Night point vent is to vent all air out with fill.
Amazing job guys
A cool trick I learnt was to use a ratchet strap without a hook on the end and wrap it back through and it’ll pull anything tight around a tank but that bottle jack and chain is a damn good idea aswell
the whip tip was solid. love the vids
Take the Devo advice, when a problem comes along you just whip it.

Looks a lot easier than the inservice wet branch tests
Красивые у вас рабочие места:)) Мы же работаем в пещерах советских времён:)
AWESOME JOB 👏
Pretty nice! What electrode you used and no. amps sir?
That fellow in the black shirt is not a flunky. He is smooth. The guy in the white shirt is O.C.D. ONE COOL DUDE
We had to time uphill the what they call butter or feather the weld with a tiger disk. It’s for build up and to prevent burn through.
How did you get that Lincoln 200 in the back of that truck?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐good info right here. Thanks
Informative as always guys 😁
Good video thank you
Yes sir my brother’s 👍🏾🔥
Love the Mexican accent! 🇲🇽🇲🇽
Cool jig!
Running the smaller rods to keep the amps down to prevent burning through?
Absolutely.
Where you pulling straps from?🤔
I have seen pictures of guys welding live lines with fire coming out the root gap. What’s the deal there?
That's bad ass🔥🔥
How about a hot tap video
Which WPS you are following.
Frigginn beautiful 😌👌
You guys should have welded some 14 gauge pipe for an example of a real world thinned out old pipe “in the field”
excellent demonstration
NICE GOOD LUCK.
Whats the thickness of the test pipe ?
Camera guy dodging the sparks
WELDING IS DOPE!
Tengo 32 ańos de soldador mitad aquí mitad en México y jamás mire esas caretas están perronas mejor que nada
Good
sir you glasses uv400? thats cool!
This is more stress and more endurance than the branch
Mi compadre Peppis
Butter passes, you mean like overlay ?
Thanks
El compa pepis looking like rapper french montana but welding.
Yeah I seen all the editing. The change of shirts. The mop in the background
There really ain't nothing to it. BUT AND I SAY BUT.
1. If your not familiar with your machine.
2. Dont know how to read a puddle.
3. Haven't had enough experience with welding stick.
Don't do it. There ain't no I'll fake it till I make it, kind of thing. Dont put yourself or others at risk. You all be safe.
Is it really 30 amps on the remote though?
No, Its Volts
Q bueno pliss in spanish sub titulado asi aprendemos mas
Amazing stoveing guys...
Was my mans looking straight into the arc???
Best way to learn.
Cooper Schut gotta pay them bills am I right?
@@WeAllFailXxX Oh, fasho
He's built for this.. 🤣🤣
My favorite part of this video was definitely getting arc flashed over and over again
You can’t get flashed through a screen.......
@@robertsmith1400 😂😂😂😂
You need to tell machine settings, each remote is different
Camera man didn’t like the sparks 🤣
👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Awesome vide bro 👍🏻 but how about y’all talk about real life about driving a welding rig the cost and maintenance and how about the legal par like Carrying over million dollar dollars liability insurance and procedures on pipe line test
I breathe hard too like the guy in black.
Liners always run uphill funny....
Yeah man. Steamfitter over here, wondering what was going on.
@@DvS2171 it's an in service pipe test for live product lines. Alot of rig hands take this test. It's a requirement for kindermorgan certs amongst alot of other pipeline contractors. LU250 steamfitter combo welder and rig welder.
Anderson Karl oh I understand the test, just looking at how they run that 7018. It’s weird. Steamfitters LU475 here, just passed my UA21 and starting my 3rd year of apprenticeship.
@Jo Smotherman They used 8010 just to weld the caps on the end of the carrier pipe and 6010 to tack the backing strips. The actual tested weld is 7018.
Subtitulen al español porfaaa ✌️✌️👌👌🤟🤟
I know that I don't ever want this ticket. Willing to learn just to get better, but rather not do it.
Is this up to a certain standard? Somewhere under API or something?
melvin alex yes is done to API standards
API 1104
Lucky Guy idk if the sleeve is under 1104 or not. Can’t remember. I know he’ll and branch are
Brent & Lucky guy, it’s API 1104 Annex B - In Service Welding.
I doubt anyones blown a hole thru the actusl test
Should have cleaned all the varnish or coating off the pipe.
5/32 at 127 amps what the hell.. I run my 1/8 7018 between 115 and 125..
That was an 8010 rod, aswell as 100ft of cable. I run 1/8 7018 upto 150 amps some times.
Marcel Lirette I’m usually on 100ft or better 115-125 usually on a Lincoln ranger 250 but 115-125 always goes like butter for me
I’m structural though; I’ve never burned an 8010.
Joshua Marcotte He said 127 on the machine and 55 on the remote. So if you add that up he’s actually running 170+ It’s a pipeliner technique you set your machine and then go up with it on your remote.
6010 8010 run colder I run a full rod size bigger meaning what I run 3/32 7018 is my heat for 1/8 inch 8010 and 1/8 inch 7018 same as 8010 5/32
Very easy tes
Keep 75% to 80% of your heat on the reinforcing ring, pushing the edge of the puddle to the pipe with the arc. Minimal heat on the pipe by pushing the puddle. The arc is on the puddle, not the pipe. Push the puddle with the arc. Liquid puddle melts into the pipe. Stay alive.
To me you guys are pushing on the top and 7018 don't liked to be pushed always a drag in my opinion
I agree. Everything else looked bang on though imo.
Muchachos traduscanlo al.castellano saludos desde peru
Cool
First💪🏻
Second
Third
you always have your hand right in the fire thats why your gloves look like chicharrones, and by bracing your hand or arm on the pipe every single pass means you lack the ability to free hand which shows your inexperience.
