Lets be honest about the Surefire brand. Their flashlights are the best and the anodized finishing is second to none. I own a lot of Surefire flashlights. From the C2 Centurion to the most resent flashlights such as the R1 LAWMAN Fury DFT and so on. Where Surefire was lagging was exactly at the very thing you are mentioning. Surefire is one of the last companies to equip their flashlights with 18650 rechargeable batteries as most of their flashlights use CR123 and were getting a lot of criticism for not being up to date. The other two good USA made flashlight makers, Streamlight and Pelican have more flashlights out there with 18650. The Chinese brands took advantage of the 18650 and newer 21700 rechargeable batteries. I think this is the reason brands such as Olight, Fenix, Klarus, Nitecore, Truenite got popular.

18650???? That’s old news. Look up the 21700 battery. Most high end flashlight take these now. Malkoff just came out with a 21700 battery tube that uses 18650 heads. Long runtimes better power density. Surefire just got onto the 18650 and there already behind. I love surefire lights but they need to keep up better.

surefire is really late to adopt things, 26650 and 21700 won’t be available by then for another 5 years at least..
can’t really fault them though cause they truly wait for things to be proven before they trust your life to them. they stuck with cr123 for the soul reason that they’re dependable.

21700 its just a bigger li on battery. It doesnt mean its better than 18650. It depends on the aplication. For edc i rather have a 14500 or a 18650 flashlight than a 21700 cause of size, you can hardly put a 21700 flashlight in your pocket.

@@mynamesnotimportant6941 he's really not though. sure, you would benefit from having a smaller admin light for certain tasks, though if you're lost in the woods, you should be doing most everything by the light of your fire anyway, and should be focusing on your shelter and how you're going to maintain your energy (food) as opposed to trying to run around in the dark dicking around. Unless of course, you're trying you maintain a low profile, in which case, chances are you're either running NV or some sort of light that's less likely to give away your position, but I digress. Having grown up in the countryside, and specifically done my own kind of low light training, I can tell you that your eyes will adapt to the darkness, and save for a certain few tasks that might require a little more visibility, you'd be just as well off not burning through your light source. moreover, these are not 'survival' lights, these are tactical/combative lights, meant for PID, and disorienting a threat, not trying to fashion a shelter. there's a reason I carry a small, cheap, AAA led light in addition to my surefire. one is a dedicated defensive light, the other is for whatever other random crap I might need a light for at any given time.

I'd been waiting for surefire lights to accept rechargeable batteries for years and so have other ppl that they've had to make mods in order to allow surefires to take them. Sure they're built well, but you can get similar quality with better modes, brightness, runtimes, features for a lot less. Do yourself a favor and checkout Fenix and Acebeam if you want reliability and dependability.

I use to think the same thing. But you don't get consistent performance with those cheap lights. You will actually get 3.5 hours of 1,500 lumens with these lights. Cheap lights step down in power because they get too hot. They also break easily.

i agree with you that the Olights are great, have a few myself.. but the reason people buy these lights are that they’re extremely reliable and rugged really the only lights that our service men/women would reach for when their lives depended on it.
also Olight has a 5 year warranty where as Surefire is lifetime, so there is a large initial cost but you truly only have to buy the light once and you’ll have it with you till you die (also they will replace faulty lights that aren’t in production anymore with the current models so you upgrade for free)

You're very behind the times and badly ill-informed
1- Surefire do not make powerful lights in comparison to many other companies
2- Surefire have not changed the game with the rechargeable 18650, they are extremely late to the game and competetors have already moved on
3- Surefire are nothing unique in running off both 18650 and Cr123, many brands did this years ago
4- Surefire do not make the worlds best lights, they are very far behind these days, once upon a time yes
5- You're wrong on Surefires 1500 lumens, all lights including Surefire drop down, it DOES NOT run 1500 for 3.5hrs it will last about 2-3mins
6- 18650's are the future??? You made me laugh with this one, they're being fazed out mate, 21700 are taking over, 18650's have been around for a long time.
