A MUST-DO on Tasmania's West Coast - Gordon River Cruise, Strahan

- Tasmania’s wild west coast is one of the last remaining untouched wilderness areas on the planet. While we were in Strahan we really wanted to see this World Heritage Wilderness area up close. But being so wild, means its pretty inaccessible, except by boat. So we went on World Heritage Cruises’ Gordon River Cruise.
But it’s not only the wilderness here; Tasmania has a brutal convict history, and incredible stories of piners going into the wild for months to find the highly-valued (and now protected) Huon Pine.
The cruise was a great overview of the area, as we visited not only the wild temperate rain-forest, but also sailed down Macquarie Harbour and through Hell's Gates. We visited the former convict penal colony at Sarah Island and had a guided tour of the ruins.
In this episode we also drive on the beach near Macquarie Heads, and check out Australia's longest running play "The Ship that Never Was".

Great to be able to share your adventures. Even having gone to Tassie a few times I’ve never really done the ‘tourist’ thing. Hopefully one day I/we can visit some of these places, meanwhile thank you for sharing. 🤗
You know we're not really into the Tourist Thing either Lynne, but sometimes its worthwhile to get access to places you otherwise wouldn't be able to see. And I don't think Sarah island would be anywhere near as good without the guide!
It's a great cruise. We went on the grey boat, which seems to follow a similar program. The grey boat is hybrid so can run silently in the narrow river sections. Maria Island is an eye-opener. The Ship That Never Was was hilarious. We also stayed at the golf club.
Sadly we didn't make it to Maria Island. Isn't the west coast of Tassie a great part of the country?
Loved your video Thank you for sharing, On my bucket list.
Glad you enjoyed it! The west coast of Tasmania is really incredible. Probably one of our favourite places in the whole state. Thanks for watching.
Great episode guys and it was a pleasure meeting you both on our adventures ! Safe travels x
Cheers guys! Great to meet you too!
What a great boat trip , I am amazed that they they let people walk in and out the bridge like that , so cool for the kids , and big kids 😂
Yeah it was very cool. We spent a bit of time in there.
Love Tassie.. have been a couple of times and also really enjoyed the trip from Strahan. Gives a good idea of what the convicts endured and also has gorgeous scenery. Thanks for the video. :)
I know it's hard to imagine their daily lives, having to stay on that tiny island! Thanks for watching.
We used to get threatened with a cat of nine tails when we at school.
Crikey! Did they give kids the cane or the strap? Some boys got the strap my first few years of school, don’t remember any girls getting it. Must have stopped on the late 70s I think
We went on the electric motor boat, whisper quiet
someone else mentioned that one. We didn't even know about it!
