NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 5G Mobile Hotspot - SPEEDTEST & Review!
Vložit
- čas přidán 19. 01. 2023
- HI Guys, this is my netgear M6. I use it whenever I go camping or work on site for events. It's the fastest wireless hotspot router I have used and its a big part of my set up. The best is if you are on T-MOBILE as their 5G data is inexpensive and easy to set up.

NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 5G WiFi 6 Mobile Hotspot Router (MR6150) - Blazing Fast Wireless Hotspot Router, Unlocked, Certified with AT&T and T-Mobile, for Secure Internet at Home Or Everywhere You Go
I just picked one up a few days ago, I was taken back by how expensive it is compared to other hotspots, figured I could return it if I didn't like it. this thing is like carrying around a home network in your pocket. its absolutely worth the price
Hi! I completely agree!
How do you connect ethernet I keep trying with it but it's not working
I'm stoked, mine arrives tomorrow. I've been forced to use 4G hotspots for years bc of service limitations. I have 5G signal in my driveway, so if this doesn't pick it up in the house, I'll be running an antenna out.
@@vg8639 did you get the Ethernet connected I need it for gaming and was gone but this
@@vg8639 I think he said in the video you have to take out the battery to turn on the ethernet port. I guess you plug it into a receptacle to power it without the battery in
OK I also work and events and do live streaming. Download speeds are fine but What is the upload speed of the modem with T-Mobile?
Did you find the answer to this.
Does it have data caps on it
What is the upload speed? I noticed some people asked it below and didn't get an answer either, if you could let me know that would be super helpful. Maybe also testing on a computer as well would make this video super helpful. Thanks!
Can you please mention about upload speed of it. Is it full-duplex?
LOL
Do I have to get the plan with hot spot or I can just do unlimited data?
Yo did you ever find out how to do it
How fast is the upload speed? I’m asking for gaming
I'm trying to find a good thing to use for gaming, i live kinda off grid in a small house i built, im really looking for something i can use to play some apex and whatnot with
how does it work compare to Glocalme Numen Air ?
U can get gigabit speed on 5G on wifi 7 Mobiles like Samsung s24 Ultra ..
By chance, can you go to Settings > More > Device Information > and then let me know what the Firmware Version and Modem Version are? Thanks!
I like your clear video. I wish you showed how to get the phone to recognise it and be a bit more information about setting up the route and what each icon does
Best review on these device by far thank you. How does work outside the country?
What’s the upload speed though
Do you have a comparison to the Nighthawk M1?
Is this any good with gaming on my ps5? I live with 4 other kids who game it up all day and the WiFi is so bad it pisses me off when I try playing online. I’m a total noob to all this and just recently started looking into getting my own little mobile hotspot just for gaming. I can’t stand these god damn kids sabotaging my days off work where I just wana chill and game it up.
How much are the plans for this?
For the SIM card could you use your own phone SIM card and put it in the netgear nighthawk m6
hi! You could but it will eat up data very quickly.
Greetings, I just purchased one and it list Verizon as a carrier could I use my sim card from my Verizon jetpack to make this work?
nothing but problems with mine I'm on the second one slow as speed over heats to 62c and randomly cuts off
I blue tack mine to the A/C vent ,only way to stop it overheating and shutting down
Why the price of this is like new (expensive) phone ? Which, in turn, can also serve as a hotspot !
Does it work with a 4G WiFi?
Hi there would this work for live-streaming on CZcams off the grid? Really debating on getting this. Thank you!
In the USA the cellular service providers will throttle you down after a few days so it's a great device but not here.
Ive brought this but it is really slow any tips?
Can this be connected to a hotel wifi system with their login?
You could figure out how to do it easily but it would be very slow.
I wonder how come with my old MR1100 I can use that one with no battery (and just plugged into the wall with no ethernet cable) and I still get internet with that one but my new M6 will not work without the battery in it, when I remove the battery and plug it into the wall I dont get any internet at all. Hmmmm. (they both have sim cards with unlimited data)
Why use this instead of your phones hotspot?
I tried many but this one is amazing and strong .. We just dont like its size
Says on the box can handle ipv 6 but I can’t work out how to activate it
what’s the best cellular service to use and do you have any hacks using visible wireless and does it work with verizon wireless?
In US, Tmobile works the best for me in the northeast. No real hacks here.
Thanks for your video. How many hours would the battery last? Like when I am camping outside?
Hi, depends on the connection. How strong is the signal where you will be?
My hotspot on my iPhone keeps going off while i am watching a movie in my caravan so would this cure my problem without any extra costs
it may, but you need an additional sim card
Great review! I just bought it, I'm so pumped!
Good choice!
Is it possible to put unlimited data? Of course with a monthly payment.
How long does the battery last on non stop use? Ty
Around 4hrs
is it possible to attach an outdoor wifi extender to this? need it for a bunch of devices in a large 1000ft yard
yes just use a wifi repeater to extend the m6s wifi
great info, thx. can I purchase any sim card for this device?
Yes it should work with any simcard data plan
I bought one and it's been a nightmare with most cellular providers, they will throttle you down, good luck.
Which is the best SIM card for the Netgear Nighthawk and how much is it?
best in what sense?
@@mjscpr just overall performance. Upload speed, download speed, doesn’t get disconnected too much, etc
Esim compatible?
How about upload speeds?
Same as expected
@@TheFrenchGlow what do you mean "Same as expected"? I think we are wondering what were the uploads during your speed test, you didn't show them only the download speed
Mine runs so hot it makes the sim overheat and go in ‘Searching’ mode
What about upload speeds?
It doesn’t support 5G ?? I didn’t get it 😅, can someone explain plz
Could this replace a traditional internet land line connection?
I have horrible internet service with spectrum, I feel like anything is better.
Not really unless you have a real unlimited data plan.
I noticed ping times are higher than say optical home internet. How does this perform in FPS games? Does hardwiring the ethernet improve ping times?
Hi! Definitely improves fps if hardwired as the device doesn't have to allocate resources for mobile connections. It's more for mobile and remote use
If I keep the battery removed can I use as all day home internet? I live in a rural area where internet service is horrible and I only have 1 option. I would like this as a replacement for my internet provider.
Yes correct. Keep it plugged in without battery for home internet, stationary.
Can you connect without having to use a QR code? I want to use this for my Xbox to stream/game
Yes, the QR code just makes it faster to connect.
So, I am looking for a hotspot to use in Mexico long term as a backup internet source. Is this one that you would recommend?
Hi! Yes I would recommend this one as it can work as a wired router and mobile Hotspot.
@@TheFrenchGlow can you use this while it’s charging I need one for gaming
One very important thing that is lacking in this series since M1 is the IP reserved or IP-bind feature. Can u confirmed if that is available now in M6? Port forwarding is supported in this mobile hotspot, but if IP reserved is not supported then how to do proper forwarding.
Compared to ZTE MU5002 which also has ethernet port, i would say Nighthawk has much more stable connection with constant ping while ZTE ping is not stable although both are using Qualcomm chipset. Both tested with exactly same simcard at same location connected at same band. ZTE has IP reserved feature anyway. Nighthawk will work without battery but ZTE refused to power up without battery. ZTE is only 1/3 of the price of Nighthawk.
ZTE has an older modem and ping is a much bigger than in M6
So can I plug into wall to leave on and use an Ethernet to pc?
Hi, yes you can.
I have the m6 it’s not working for my ps5 I just wanna play my game we have no Wi-Fi
How about for console gaming may I also add what if you have unlimited data plan
Yes you can connect. But you will want to have the netgear plugged in and not running on battery for max efficiency and performance.
Could I remote in to an ERP system like Dynamics on something like this?
this merely gives you internet. You probably want to use a vpn, which you could do via your computer / laptop or an additional device.
I don't understand how these work. How do I get internet for the cheapest price in the forest. Thanks so much for help
I’ll keep it simple. If you can’t get cell service you will not have this working. But it can enhance cell signal with antenna if you get bad signal. But not with NO signal
Great informative review. Well done. I'll order one
What if the T-mobile network is spotty in the area?
Hi! The netgear will only be spotty if the data connection is spotty.
nice
Will this device run if I put in my SIM card from my Verizon hotspot?
Any sim card will work.
Does this work internationally ? Looking to travel to eastern countries and considered this
Hi! Yes should work as long as Simcard and spectrum matches.
Why doesn't this Ethernet Port work???????
Can I use this in Vietnam? So can I put a Vietnam SIM card in here?
It should work like a Sim card mobile phone would.
Can I use with desktops?
hi! yes you can.
How hot does it get?
it can get really hot. from what i know it gets so hot it can overheat the sim card
On AT&T and I’m barely getting 20mbs down
Me too 🤷🏿♂️
what were you getting for upload speeds?
how do I get the sim card do I just ask my provider?
You can ask your provider or you can get a prepaid one. I use prepaid options but I recommended not running speed tests on it as they use a lot of data very quickly.
@@TheFrenchGlow I’m new to prepaid SIMs for hotspots. Can you recommend some guidelines or perhaps solid options?
Depending on Your network on LTE in Germany I got (in Hannover) 307mb in download speed in 5G I will expect over 2000gb in speed will have this device next month 😎
Would this be good for gaming? I struggle with latency online.
Hi! Not for ps5, pc, Xbox gaming unless you hardwired it or have a high speed unlimited data plan. Video games eat bandwidth.
By hardwired you mean have it used as a router and plugged in all the time? Then also how much is the high speed unlimited data plan?
What does hardwiring do? Just get rid of the issue of it dying while using it?
@@TheFrenchGlow did you mean data, what do you mean eats bandwidth?
Can you use a mint or visible sim in this? I am disabled. I want to have internet In the mountains, and off grid so I can study and go to college online
U can use a sattelite wifi router. Those never go off grid unless theres a technical failure in the satelite which is very rare. It costs a lot tho
Way, way, WAY too expensive. Its outrageous that they ask more than $200 for this.
Anyone know if you can put an ethernet cable between the m6 (or even m5) and a pc, then use it for wireless virtual reality?
Following
Hi there great video! I setup my hotspot but I am only getting 1-2 MBs while downloading a steam game. Do you know why it would be so slow? Thanks!
Hi! that could be due to Steam. If you are on 5G, it should give you 5G speeds. If it's not, I would call your data provider and let them know because it should be much faster. Also, I don't recommend running a speedtest more than once if you buy prepaid data as some tests use 1gb+ per test.
Hello. Is it also possible to charge the device with a power bank or have it in operation even though it is still charging? For me as a live streamer this is important. Thanks
Same
I like Turtles.
Would you recommend this for regular console gaming?
Hi! Gaming on ps5 or Xbox on a wireless mobile Hotspot can use a lot of data very quickly. You might need a top of the line data plan to make it feasible.
Pls can this also support 4G ?
Hi! yes it supports 4G
I own one is fantastic technologies, however at@t should be a shame....no unlimited plans available. I bought this device to replaced my home network. I used this device in europe with vodafone some months I get unlimited data plan for 39 euro. The regular plans are 200 gb data for 39 euro. The other problem is 6 and 6E is not ratfied standard. Every vendor implements the way they think until the real standard comes out. That is why there are some different vendors that are not compatible with each other. Intel and Netgear as example here.
My laptop I bought intel AX210 Killer 1675x but can't see the 6 network on Netgear.
Sooo if I’m using an ethernet cord do I need a sim for the device
Hi! No you don't need a Sim
I just got this and my speeds not go over 25-30 Mbps but on my old 4g unit i get 60-70
Hi! Which mobile service provider are you using and where? I recommend calling the service and telling them as if it's the same place/same plan you should get better speeds 4g vs 5g
@@TheFrenchGlow its att. Both my hotspots r on a 5g plan but they had to do a new line for the new one because the “couldnt” sell me the device out right
@@TheFrenchGlow found out that my plan is capped at 25mbps and they cant uncap or increase it so ig ima return theirs and buy the netgear one. What sim card did u go with again?
Now I undetstand. I used a tmobile simcard. The standard, prepaid plan but if it's att, if possible, I would complain at them. You also find tweeting at them gets better service.

Are you aware of an high speed 5G wireless internet plan with no data Capps?
Google Fi data only sim when paired with unlimited phone plan
more than 1000 US Dollars in my country !!!
I'll offer you a deal: if you'll answer a question, I'll like and subscribe. I'm not sure why but my M6 pro with att offers truly unlimited data and in my home it downloads at about 190 mbps, but the range is limited to the room it's in. I can deal with that. But at night, when I'm not using the device, can I leave the unit plugged into the wall without the danger of overheating the unit?
Remove the batteries and have it plugged in.
Either way, this bad boy will over heat in temps of 25c
U DIDN'T SHOW HOW TO PUT THE SIM CARD IN BUDDY AND SLOW DOWN WITH THE EXPLANATIONS ..
Take out the battery and it’s straight forward from there
It's too expensive
on god. shit should be like $419. But even then
$1000 AUD... That's a no from me dawg
This is nothing believe me I waisted 860 on this shit
So my question here is im out in the sticks which i only get 2 or 3 bars of 5G AT&T where i live at. I have a NightHawk i got from a friend it does good for what it does. I cant get internet out here so hotspot is what i can only do at the moment. Does anyone live in the sticks and use this for gaming? If so please comment i would love to know if its worth it to do.
Background: I run three Androids: 2 OnePlus 9 phones and two Galaxy S-8+ tablets (one has its own sim card for $20 mo), also 2 Windows10/11 Desktops and 1 laptop-- off of T-Mobile Home Internet 5G Wi-fi 6 and NO service obligation. We have 40GB of mobile hotspot per phone with our service- for top speed, but speed drops down after the max hotspot quota I'm told, we haven't maxed out so far. I did add cheap $18 USB WiFi Adapters, 1200Mbps, XDO Dual Band OFDM 2.42GHz 5.8GHz/867Mbps,802.11 to each Desktop PC that enables super fast speed, averaging 900GB dwnld and 200+GB upload off T-Mobile Internet to which I also added a cheap WAVLINK 1200Mbps WiFi Router costing $29.
T-Mobile home internet is a flat $50 a month. my Android phones on their own run at 500GB dwnld and over110 upload, tested with Fast.com and Ookla SpeedTest.
As I understand it, with this Netgear M6 5G device you still need 5G Sim card service, and Mobile hotspot data available on your phone, right?
I invested a total $65 in hardware. Each phone carries full replacement insurance plus the extra sim card and 40+40GM hotspot on our plan.
All this costs me $208 total per month "Including Internet Service". We are on their Magenta plan. I already use my phones when we RV with Tablet hotspot, and we can cast to a UHD TV for streaming w/o loading issues.
(My prev cable Internet service cost $78 per month and two phones $45 each with 4G LTE service and 5GB hotspots that never topped 100GB.)
My question is how will this $700 Nighthawk M6 5G Mobile Hotspot improve that?
