- Moloka‘i is a beautiful island. It is approximately 10x38 miles in size. The population is in the mid 7,000 range. There are no traffic lights on Moloka‘i and no structures are taller than the palm trees! They dont't even have parking meters! Visiting the island will show you how the real and original Hawai‘i used to look like.
You will find very few tourists. Unfortunately, many people on Moloka‘i dislike visitors. You might find homemade signs telling visitors to go home. This is happening mostly on the east side of the island.
Kaunakakai is the largest town with a population of 3,500+. The town has pretty much one gas station (there is another place where they have two pumps as well) and a couple of food places including Paddlers where you can have a drink and listen to live music. Kaunakakai has the longest pier in Hawai‘i.
Kalaupapa is home to the former Leper colony that operated for almost a century.
Wonderful video ❤❤❤❤
Most relaxing and truly Hawaiian vacation I ever had was my week in Molokai, all the other islands are nice but I felt more in touch with what Hawaii used to be.
I agree, Molokai is a very special island.
32:51 methokai😊😢
Was always curious about Molokai, so thank you for this very informative coverage. Great to see someone who appreciates nature. Very peaceful island. Can understand why the residents wish to keep it undeveloped.
My grandparents been there. It was pretty good ☺️
Aloha, I was born and raised on Molokai but unfortunately back in the 80s after that hotel had shut down I had to move to Maui my family and I,I worked on maui for another 20 years then retired and I'm still living on maui but I fly back to Molokai at least once a year to visit my sister and friends, that hotel at the west end I worked there for 15 years before they had shut down, Sheraton resort manage that hotel back in the late 70s though out the late 80s, I worked there as a house man and played music in the lounge at night what a hotel that was full of life once, well glade you enjoyed your little adventure there as you can see Molokai is really a slow moving island 🏝 there's no need to rush...Aloha and take care...
Well, Maui is also a nice place. Just different flavor of paradise!
Great video man! Thanks for your thorough driving around all over! I watched all of them!
Very nice video, and it brought back many fond memories of my 1992 trip to Molokai with my late father. I have been to the islands several times over the years and spent time on 5 of them, but Molokai was always my favorite out of them all...you just get a 'special feeling' there you don't get from the other islands. My visit to former Leper colony on the Kalaupapa peninsula on the north side of Molokai was the highlight of my trip. Thanks for the wonderful video!🤙
It is a beautiful island. Lots of cool stuff to see.
Thanks for sharing!
Molokai! Nicest place I've ever lived. The majority of Mokulele's aircraft hold nine passengers (not including the pilot and copilot). Molokai's "Flagship" two-engine planes hold 28 passengers plus pilot and copilot. My wife and I purchased a condo here in 2017. We bought a house in 2019. We've lived here full-time ever since March 2019. Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Molokai.
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you.
This is an excellent video and it makes me want to see Molokai. Thank you.
Thank you very much! It is a great island with lots of history and interesting things to see.
Great stuff we were looking into moving to Molokai
