'Wishin & Hopin' was earlier in her career, before she went to record the LP 'Dusty In Memphis'. *(In November 1968, during the Memphis sessions, Springfield suggested to Wexler (one of the heads of Atlantic Records) that he should sign the newly formed UK band Led Zeppelin.)* So there's THAT!

Speaking’s of Brits, have you heard of Lulu? She did a great song called “To Sir, With Love” from the great movie “Blackboard Jungle” starring Sidney Poitier, one of the best black actors of all time. Lulu was in the movie too, and sang the song to Sidney at the end (I think it was at the end? Someone correct me if I’m wrong). Also, Lulu was married to Bee Gee twin Maurice (Morris) Gibb for a short time. Note: The movie is “To Sir, With Love”, not “Blackboard Jungle”, though Sidney co-starred in that movie.

I just discovered that Dusty Springfield & Daryl Hall, sang a duet song after the ending of the movie, "While You Were Sleeping". Her vocals are more expressive than her earlier songs. Though her earlier vocals fit the type of songs that she did. With Daryl Hall, her vocals are very strong & she shines.

This song is such an earworm that as recently as this century did I sing, to my darlin', a version that went: "All you've gotta do is s--- him and f--- him...and on and on." Thankfully met with a sense of humor. Still alive. Once in a mountain restaurant with my papa, a mini jukebox was at the edge of the table, and I played this song.

      Nice!
If one wanted to, one could interpret this as a sexist song, but it's really not. It's about being active, rather than passive. It encourages women to get up and do something and make it happen, rather than just waiting for it to happen. Let's face it: It really isn't that hard to win over a man. But you do have to put some effort in.

In the late 60's when I was in grade school, we would hear this song in the car everytime we went shopping with our Mom for new school clothes. This and "Downtown" by Petulia Clark.

If you have a record collection, you need to have Dusty's greatest hits. So many good songs. Dusty was special.

One of my favorite memories: 1969 - On R&R or leave from the Viet. War (took both in Sydney, Australia, 1 wk. each) took a local girl to a dinner theater where Dusty Springfield was the headliner. I had only 1 or 2 mos. left in my tour of duty then back to "The World". Short timer!

One of my favourite Dusty songs. The Merseybeats did an excellent version of this too. Reached No.13 in the UK in 1964. Dusty's version was a hit in the USA.

Sometimes notifications just cancel out. Sometimed I have to 're-subscribe'. Be sure to answer 'All' after you ring the bell. Then you'll be alerted of any one they post. Unless of course you do have a preference.

"Wives and Lovers" was a popular crooner song by Jack Jones in 1963. It had a similar message for the wives.

Dusty Springfield went through a LOT and I mean a *LOT* of hairspray. She later in life said, "I used so much hairspray that I feel personally responsible for global warming!” Ronnie Spector always said Dusty was one soulful woman and that she would always give her just a little extra blast of hairspray!
    Aquanet was her jam!!

Here is another Female Friday suggestion I made in the past, that is jazz royalty; Nancy Wilson. “Guess who I saw today” is a great song with a great story and a surprising ending. You will ask where she has been as well.

Along with Dionne Warwick, Dusty was one of the finest interpreters of the classic music by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
