As it should ALWAYS be. The music was what mattered, and their music was FIRE. That horn section just kills it every time. It's impossible not to move when KC is playing.

I came to make the same comment. I was color-blind. It was a wonderful way to grow up. Thankfully, I've moved back home and have renewed old friendships, both black and white. BTW, I'm in Mississippi, a state with a deserved reputation for racial conflict. Although, I've never witnessed it personally. It's probably because we are a small town. I know everyone and their parents, grandparents, kids, etc. It's hard to be prejudiced when you know someone 's grandmother and she's your neighbor. No segregated living here. Wish I had a time machine but I guess for now music is the best teleporter.

Ha - when I was in HS.. our "dance team" had a routine to "Get Down tonight".. and somebody's MOM (we suspected one of the jealous cheerleaders) convinced the principal that it was "obscene".. so at the last day before the performance, we weren't allowed to dance to that song.. we all freaked... but our cool 20-something coaches said.. "that's okay.. we'll do the routine to 'That's the way I like it'" Which is the exact same song, and nobody had time to object.. only, funny thing is "that's the way" was probably more sexually suggestive that "get down tonight"... hilarious... lol

This genre was known was "disco funk," and KC and the Sunshine band were one of the biggest at the time. Other tracks include "Get Down Tonight", "That's the Way (I Like It), "Boogie Shoes" (released in 1975), as well as "Shake Your Booty" and "Keep it Coming Love" (release in 1976), among others. Everyone wore bell bottoms at the time (you couldn't find straight leg pants at the time), but KC and the band were known for their technicolour and bedazzled disco outfits, and the brass sections' coordinated dance moves while playing. During one of their concerts (can't remember which one), one of the band members started busting a move centre stage, it was awesome. Back then, the 'Boogie man'' referred to the DJ, and 'boogie' was also a colloquial expression that meant "getting down" on the dance floor.

BP... KC & the SB are EXCELLENT! Every song is a dance banger. I was born in 1969 and they were their most popular from 1974-1976. I loved dancing to their music! My aunt that was only 6 years older than me taught me all the disco dances. Hell, 54 yo. and I still kick it. I have always LOVED them so much! They have so MANY hits!

Not many bigger disco bands from the 70's than KC and the Sunshine Band. His hits were monsters and played in every disco club on repeat. Good time music that got everyone on the dance floor and Boogied down. The man is still touring.

I transitioned to what ever music era that was new. I went Soul music, Groovin' the music, Psychedelic music, Rock music, Soft Rock, Heavy Metal music, Head Bagging music, New Wave Music & more. I had the best time to enjoy it all. And yes I went Disco and my sister who is younger then me taught me how to dance Disco. I went to clubs & danced and went to the Roller Ring and danced disco on Roller Blades. I tell ya the mid 60's, all of the 70's & to mid 80's was the best Era of all. I got to live through it all & witness so much. Hell of a ride it was.

When KC & the Sunshine Band first his the airwaves, people lost their minds! It was fun, upbeat, and totally new! Then, imagine everyone's surprise when they found out that KC (Harry Wayne Casey) was a White dude from Florida! Just another blue-eyed soul brother from the 70s who changed music forever. :)
My Okie mother was a HUGE fan of KC & the Sunshine Band! She bought a light green van with a wet bar and swivel bucket seats, and an 8-track player with bomb-ass speakers, and her FIRST 8-track was KC! When she came to pick us up from school, our friends lost their minds! LOL!

Went to Hialeah High School. Graduated in 1969 I believe. 2 years after I did. recorded his early music in North Miami s Criteria Studios as did/the Bee Gees during their disco era. Sang a nice duet too with Teri DeSario also a Hialeah graduate a year ahead of him.
