No computerized autotune, just unadulterated talent!
No in ear monitoring, no backing tracks. 100 live. How music should be
Yep
wadefryer7899 what is your problem with in ear monitors?? You have something against hearing yourself?? Wow.
Yep when an artist was an artist not machines being artists.
@@kevinflynn4519 yes I hate them. Lose the feel of the crowd.Back then you had to rely on wedges. Took a much better singer to stay on key.
They don’t call him the voice for nothing ❤
Omg….so true! Steve Perry is easily in my top 10 best male rock vocalists of all time!
Australia's John Farnham is also called, 'The Voice' for very good reason. too.
@@barnowl. I wasn’t aware of this, thanks for the info.
@@lisawest7002 John Farnham is brilliant- a vocal genius. Always see and hear him LIVE. His concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and his band and back-up singers are amazing. He sings in over 20 genres/styles. His career spans 60 years and he's had many top hits and albums. John is a consummate showman and is sooo charismatic and the nicest person. Aussies love him. There are a number of reactions on YT to him. Enjoy !
That could be used for: Brad, Steve, Freddie and Meatloaf
Steve Perry is considered by most artists to be one of the best singers of all time.
No dude, his voice was that good. Pick any live performance, he’ll blow you away. Fan for life.
Thats absolutely true
Yes live vocals, when artists were actually artists and had talent.
I can't even watch all this, not interesting enough even though I do like Journey. You want some excellent music, singing and entertainment, watch Lord Huron live doing Secret of Life.
@@judyhano8277 I don't even know who "Lord Huron" is. Never even heard the name.
@@CelticSpiritsCoven You're not missing anything. Boring as hell.
COMPLETELY AGREE.......IT WAS GREAT GROWING UP IN THE 70'S AND 80'S.......NO BETTER MUSIC HANDS DOWN!!!
Freddie Mercury, Journey, Elton John all amazing
Do you know how lucky my generation was to see arena rock in its all greatness!? God, what a time to be alive!!!!!
Yes! We were so lucky to be in that era!!
60's kids lived through the best American years, 60's-80's!! I wouldn't trade it for more time today, I'm done with this twisted world that's for sure!!
i envy you so much.
And let's not forget all the amazing outdoor 2-3 day events like Day on the Green and Mountain Air out in Central California!!
or a real band in your friend's basement...
Steve Perry was vocally perfect every time. Truly the GOAT.
I beg to differ, I think Chris Cornell is the GOAT of rock& roll vocalists!
80s rock bands didn't mess around! Their talent was real! No autotune! 80s clothes were great too!♥️♥️♥️
Steve Perry's nickname is The Voice, and for good reason.
Australia's John Farnham is known as 'The Voice' for good reason, too !
Thought it was Rodgers from Bad Company
Steve Perry is one of the best voices of all time! I was privileged to see them live at Starwood Amphitheater/Nashville in the 80’s. Epic time to be a teenager!!! I promise. Banging music and virtually no fighting. Folks just there, hugging and belting along with every word!!!❤🎶
💯
Yeah, I caught the Journey Raised on Radio tour. I've never seen a better behaved crowd in my life. Just GOOD people.
I saw him at Cal Jam 2 at the Ontario motor speedway
Sw Rush in San Diego... they were awesome
Saw them on their Escape Tour 1981 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The greatest vocalist of my generation. Absolutely flawless.
Steve Perry's vocals were exceptional The man could sound the same live as a recording sounded It didn't change The man was amazing
It's even more amazing when you consider that he sang like this throughout the concert, night after night, while on tour.
great point. He might be an hour into the show at this point.
Because back in the 70's and 80's you made it on talent not on computerisation
There was no such thing as stretch denim back then. Commitment. God I love Journey so much. Incredible.
Yes, he sounds that good. That's why his nickname is "The Voice" 👍
He doesn’t just sound that good live, he sounds better live. He’s a goddam unicorn.
Steve Perry IMHO is the greatest singer of all time! No autotune, no ear piece, no vocal training at all . Just raw God given talent! ❤❤❤ you MUST watch Mother Father from the same show!! His vocals are amazing in that also! Anything from the live in Houston is amazing! Steve Perry is 75 now although he is no longer with Journey , he still has an amazing voice.
but Robert Plant...
I agree
The Netflix doco about "we are the world" a lot of the other artist were all talking about how great he was
Mother Father literally gives me chills ! The emotion, the vocals, the RANGE that Steve Perry hits in that song is WOW, WOW and Wow. 🤯
Rock concerts in the 80’s were just unbelievable!
There was a time when bands actually performed live. No autotune. No backing tracks.
Just pure talent.
The live 1981 performance by Queen of Somebody to Love is another example of a band at the top of their game.
This is such a pop song you've heard 20 millions times. But when you see it live it's more of a rock song and I love it. Perry's voice is truly amazing.
It's not just that Steve Perry sounds that good live, it's that Journey sounds that good live.
Styx, Foreigner, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult were all great live.
Yes, the ENTIRE band. They sounded this fabulous TOGETHER.
@@cindyknudson2715 I think that's part of what gets lost on music of the 60's to the 80's is that people get lost in the vocalist and don't really recognize that the whole group worked on the music.
Some of music today has really a good vocalist, but it seems the band is just plug and play musicians.
So many people saying the same thing. Steve P is absolutely great here - what a voice! No autotune, no dubbing, just great singing!!!!!!
Saw them live in the 80s. He DEFINITELY sounded that good. Could bring you to tears. They toured so hard for so long he just burnt out. Did a little solo stuff, then disappeared from public life completely.
Back then you had to have true talent to make it and they recorded exactly what they really sounded like. Singers and bands from that era sounded exactly like the record when you went to see them live.
Except for Steely Dan
Not true. I can name quite a few that sound much better in the studio. Sounding like the studio version live was a exception not the rule
@@lesblatnyak5947and many more
Oof. Either you didn't actually live back then, our you didn't see many bands.
@@justchillin4065 It was more of a rule than it is today, that's for damn sure!
There was no autotune in the 70's, artists had to actually have talent to make it unlike today with autotune. Yes, they actually sound the same as the recordings and knew how to play their instruments. Most groups in the 70's knew how to sing not just in the studio, they all went on tours. I've been to so many concerts to know.
Not many dare to do that anymore, so shoutout to Adele, who actually does :)
1677 concerts under my belt, from 81' to 2015 was my last concert and it was Van Halen, and I have every stub to prove it.
@@DinDooIt I'm all for going to concert so artists get their money, but what a weird flex dude.
What compelled you to brag about that?
@@codexdelux Wasn't trying to flex, just saying I've been to a lot of concerts and I was agreeing with the op that a lot of the older bands sounded the same on stage as their albums, that's all, maybe I could have worded it better.
@@DinDooIt I may have interpreted it oddly as well :) Have good weekend :)
he sounds that good live because.... TALENT!!!! no autotune, no nothing, TALENT!!!
Dude,,,you have the look of a person actually at the concert. PURE talent... Real Singing. Journey was amazing...
He sounds better live to me than on a record. He is fantastic. What a voice. He can wear whatever he wants. Lol.
No backup dancers,no crazy pyrotechnics,no auto tune. No distractions from the performance.👍👍
Journey, Live. Open Arms, all the bands played their own instruments, Great singers, no autotune.
"Mother, Father" from this same concert, is very powerful, with some jaw dropping notes!
Keyboardist Johnathan Cain said in an interview that it didn't matter if Steve Perry was in studio, practicing, or live in concert... Steve always sounded that good every time. There's a good reason why JBJ coined the moniker "The Voice" describing Steve Perry. Perry said he first wanted to sing after hearing Sam Cook sing. You can definitely hear some of that influence in Steve's vocal style.
My Mom and my older teenage brother saw Journey in concert around this time, and my Mom never forgot the experience. Even when dementia was robbing her of memory, she still remembered Journey & going to see them. (She also went with him to AC/DC & a few other concerts).
Unfortunately, I was too young at the time & never got to see them perform before Steve left them for a normal life. Later on, it was for financial reasons that I didn't get to go. One of my biggest regrets is not seeing them. This live performance is the closest I'll ever come to that. No disrespect intended to current frontman, Arnel Pineda, who's a huge Perry fan & does a great job, but it wouldn't be the same w/o Steve.
Saw them at 20. 3 weeks after I had my baby girl at key area in Seattle. The acoustics were phenomenal. I was in love with their music from my first vinyl. Sounds that can ever be recreated. I have been to about 50 concerts since then. But they shined the brightest 👏👏👏
It's not hard to sound exactly like the record when there is no auto tune just natural talent
This was a time when concerts were awesome!! Cheap, no phones and actual talent!!!
This is pure, unadulterated, raw talent! No auto tune. Steve Perry has the most beautiful voice! Love your reaction! ♥❤🔥
Steve Perry's nickname in the eighties was literally THE VOICE.
We had many fantastic vocalists, but very few could come close to him. In studio or on stage.
Steve Perry, Lou Gramm and Steve Walsh my top 3 rock vocalists of all time
Australia's John Farnham is known as 'The Voice', too.
@@aaronherbison7316 Listen to Australian John Farnham as he is known as 'The Voice' and is in the world's top list ! He sings rock and over 20 other genres excellently !
@@barnowl. not doubting you, but when? Perry is retired but was a worldwide phenomenon.
@@michaelconnor1542 When was John Farnham singing? From the 1960s to near 2020. The USA may not have heard much of him but other countries in the world did . John did not like touring and soon decided to only do concerts in Australia. Check out his concerts with his band and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. John sings in over 20 genres, has a big gymnastic vocal range and is a consummate, charismatic showman. He has also sung with other famous people who sing his praises eg. Tom Jones, Little River Band, Celine Dion. Richard Marx. Olivia Newton-John, Ray Charles and more. Other famous singers have expressed amazement at his talent.
Fifty years later and Journey is still my number one favorite group. Steve Perry is in a league of his own.
My friend, this is live !! no autotune no voiceover no nothing !!
Once again, the awesome sound of the real voices of the 70s/80s ... no autotune!
Real bands didn’t used to use auto tune, sampling, recordings during live performances, etc. It was pure talent.
Remember its 1980's no auto tune, The clothes from the 70's.....They call him "THE VOICE" for every reason you are hearing....
I am in my 60s and think the 80s was the best music of all time
That's why he is called
THE VOICE ❣️🤗❣️
Steve has one of the most distinctive voices. There’s no auto tuning with Steve. What you hear is what you get. Steve put his heart into everything he sings.❤❤
Mr. Perry, a legend. I am so proud to be from Azores islands, Portugal, where his parents were born in.
His voice is pure magic! The band is legendary! ❤❤❤❤
And he just sings it like it's nothing...one of a kind talent!
Just raw talent no auto tune no backing track/ lip sync every musician at the top of their game.
Pay attention to the guitarist Neil Schonn. He's considered one of the best of all time. Clapton tried to recruit him at age 15. There were no in ears then. Wireless technology for the stage was still years and years away. Everything was front monitors only
Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton were fighting over him then but he chose Santana because Clapton wanted him to move to London and he wasn't ready for that.
@@nancywyatt821 imagine being 15 and Clapton wants you.
@@pnshr88 Actually, Rolie introduced Neal to Carlos. Neal had been playing hooky from school to jam with Rolie for some time.
@@nancywyatt821 that's right and then he had the choice of going back to school or play in Santana. And he sucked at school so..... 🤷♂️
BEST guitarist EVER!!! All of them together - SPerry, Neal, John, Ross, and Steve Smith -the true JOURNEY!!!❤
Steve Perry is the GREATEST singer of all time. His live performances are beyond excellent.
Steve Perry without a doubt top three male vocalist ever !! possibly the best
Very 1st concert 1983t. in Mobile, AL: Bryan Adams was the opening act for Journey. Steve Perry is even more amazing in concert. His voice is STELLAR, in concernt, on album, even now in his golden years....
Saw them both in Atlanta, same tour.
I was there for that concert! It was amazing!!
Same tour in Chicago! I was 22 at the time.
Same tour in LV, NV at The Aladdin Theater.
You can get this entire live concert and hear music that's better than the studio version. This is talent! Please check out Mother Father for some amazing music.
This is probably the tour I saw Journey when they played in Florida. Steve Perry’s voice was incredible with no autotune. They rocked the stadium.😎
This is why we oldies love the music from our youth. Long before autotune, singers could really SING!
Absolutely Mother, Father; his vocal ability will blow you away. This is the same Houston concert.
I hope he takes a listen to mother father. It is by far one of the greats.
Their song Mother,Father live will show him go to the next level…yes, another level!
Add. Who’s Crying Now from same concert 1981 Houston
Steve Recorded mother Father in One take according to Cain
"Mother, father" is a amazing song!!!
Most artists from that era and before sound basically the same live as they do in studio. There was no autotune back in those days, and people went to concerts expecting the same quality as they got on the album. A band wouldn't make it if they couldn't perform live. Most of them didn't use the in-ears either. There wasn't all that much technology involved, and there weren't nearly as many toys available as there are now.
Mother Father from the same live concert will blow you away!! NO one can compare❤. His live performances are better than the recordings. He is that good!!
"Mother father" is amazing song!!!
He is my favorite singer. Such a unique voice. He will never be replaced.
Consider in concert he is running around, hand holding a bare mic and still has this quality of sound.
You HAVE to watch Steve sing “Mother, Father, Sister, Brother” from this same concert. The notes he hits are incredible in range.
Castronovo was downright impressive signing that one though.
Totally agree!!!! Insane. SP's vocal wizardry on that one is over-the-top.
Journey- Wheel In The Sky, Lights, Separate Ways, Faithfully and Mother Father. So incredible.
He purposefully would not talk to rest and protect his voice for singing!
The only person that I saw live that could keep up with Steve Perry was Freddie Mercury. I saw them both in the 70s. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Steve was better live than Freddie. Freddie often cut corners, evaded high notes live that he hit in the studio etc. I'm not saying Freddie wasn't great, he was one of the very best. But as far as vocal delivery, show after show - Steve Perry has him beat.
@@Incomudro1963 yeah. I disagree. Saw them both live, same year (78) same venue ( The Garden ) both were equally incredible.
You have not heard Australian John Farnham, then !??!
JOURNEY --- "Wheel In The Sky" live in Osaka 1980!!! Steve's song intro in this performance is EPIC! High energy interaction with the concert goers! It is a must for any Journey fan!
I saw Journey live in 1978 in Chicago, BEST CONCERT of my life. I will NEVER forget that day. His voice is even better in person. What’s he wearing🤣🤣 THIS WAS THE 80’s!!!
The sheer joy on your face!
My favorite song is Lights, but I've never heard a bad song from Journey, be it studio or live.
Sweetie, this was the 80s! Rock'n'Roll at its finest! Journey with Steve Perry as the lead singer! You really need to listen to more of their songs. Do NOT listen to the group that is Journey today. Listen to when Steve Perry was their lead singer! The groups of the 80's were among the BEST! Concerts were AMAZING! We didn't wear ear plugs and our ears rang for hours! Bad for us? Yes. Did we care? No! I'm 71 now, and still have perfect hearing. I would give anything to go back in time just so I could go to Rock Concerts again...and again...and again! So happy you are really enjoying this group! Peace!.....Oh, they didn't use "auto tune" either! :-)
You are so right!!
You must continue on that same live concert - so many songs that will make go crazy
Mother Father
Open Arms - another song you must of ran into
Lights
A
Amazing concert
I WAS 121 AT THIS TIME. I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS VOICE THE MOMENT I HEARD IT. NO ONE HAS A VOICE LIKE STEVE PERRY. I COULD LISTEN TO HIM FOREVER. I LOVE THAT MAN. I ALWAYS THOUGHT HE HAD THE BEST HAIR. HE COULD SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND IT WOULD SOUND GREAT.
Steve Perry isn’t called the voice for nothing. He produced music by himself later after Journey. He was just as good then. He has always been one of my very favorite singers.
Australia's John Farnham is known as 'The Voice', too !
They were my Dad’s favorite band! And this was his favorite song. RIP Dad. Every time I hear this song I get pumped and picture him rockin out with Jesus! Miss ya Dad! Love you! - Kristin
One of the greatest voices of all time !
Seen them live many times. Steve Perry’s voice is one of the best!!
Check out Steve's songs Foolish Heart, When you Love a Woman, Oh Sherrie & Mother, Father 🔥🎶 his voice, one of a kind ❤
I love how minimal the stage was...focus is on the band and the music. Awesome.
It’s called Talent. Unmatched. ❤
That's why Steve Perry is called "The Voice". He's a once in a lifetime voice. Greatest band ever.
Some of the most Talented people ever, are old school, Classic Rockers my man!
Most artists from this time sound just like the studio version, live! Autotune was not a thing back then! They are the epitome of true artists and musicians! Someone else I think u would love is Jackson Browne! Listen to Stay/The Load out! He has one of my favorite voices ever!
Steve will always be on my top three singers- his voice is unique. No need for autotune or all the crap they use today.
Check out the whole concert it’s just amazing. Father mother is unbelievable
Perry's voice is legendary.
Still is check out one of his more recent songs "We're still here"
Helllllllo PEGASUS. From all the concerts I been to. Rock music voices alwaS sound like the album 99% of the time
He’s probably one of the best singers to ever sing rock n roll
So back in the 80s I was 14. I was at this concert, but in Salt Lake City. He literally wore the exact same outfit, so that must’ve been his concert tour shirt. Every single song they do is gold. They are still touring. Steve Perry left the band back in ‘98 respectfully and they’ve had a couple of singers since then. They currently have Arnel Piñeda who is very very close to Steve Perry in vocals. I am an enormous Journey nerd. And the band will never be exactly the same as they were with Steve Perry as their frontman, and as big of a Steve Perry fan as I am, I am still impressed with the performance that Arnel gives. Check out “Don’t Stop Belivin with Arnel. Compare for yourself.
If you want to dig deeper into Steve’s vocals with Journey-Live- check out “Mother Father”, it will blow your mind!
That was the style back one the 80's! Yes, I was at this show! Houston girl here! 81 was the year I graduated high school! Also, u must do, Faithfully! Live! Yep, same show, same outfit, the best vocals ever! Keep up the great reactions!
My first concert. I graduated HS '81 and this song affected people... I can still remember everything from that concert including the smell.
Did you play the Journey arcade game?
STONE IN LOVE - same concert Houston 81. It’s a banger if you’ve never heard it! 🔥
Steve Perry has perfect pitch, never misses a note, such a great range. He's not Freddie Mercury, but he's damn good.
Nice to see someone actually mentioning how difficult it is to be really great live. It's easier to sing well when you're in studio, controlled climate, not having to move around, being able to take multiple takes to get things right, plus editing to improve quality, things you simply don't have when performing live.
And they had to keep this up the whole concert with no breaks, unlike a studio recording. I really miss those days.
I went to 4 of there concerts. How good they sound is the reason. ❤️🔥
1981 - I Graduated High School!! Played Journey ALL Summer!
He still sounds This Good! One of my all time favorite bands! No autotune needed! Pure talent required.❤️ Thank you .
thats TALENT!!! that was the 70-80s!!
Journey sounds better live than in the studio, pick any song from any live concert of theirs and you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend "Mother, Father" and "Open Arms" from this concert. I suggest "Wheel in the sky" from their Osaka Japan concert.
By the way, Steve perry is A.K.A as "The Voice". They did a video of their last song that they recorded with Steve, he left the group before the tour began, so check out the video "When you love a Woman".
Australian John Farnham is known as 'The Voice' world-wide.
That is what made the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music so much better than todays music , the artists could sing unplugged and sound as good as their recording , they did not need computers to make them sound good they were good
Journey!!!!!!!🤗🤗😍😍😍 yesssss!!!!!!!!!!
