Chet’s skill set and defensive ability makes him another great unicorn and will no doubt be an all-nba calibre player for years… but Wemby is a 7’5 wing who is an anchor on defence that also legibly gaurds every position. Even if a gaurd gets passed him his length and athleticism allows him to get easy chase down blocks.
If you get him the ball around the rim it’s almost an automatic 2 points because he can literally reach and dunk above everyone.
And even though Chet’s handles are probably more controlled at this point, and Wemby makes a good amount of bad turnovers, the amount of creativity that he plays with the ball in his hands is insane. He’s been the best rookie.

  • @Mandozen

One thing I noticed in these last few OKC games (especially the 2 LA games), when Shai struggles, Chet also struggles. So to think that Chet would average the same stats as Wemby in the Spurs team who has no legit PG is absurd. Chet has so many advantages on his side right now and the biggest one is that his team is definitely better than the rebuilding Spurs team. Being the third or fourth option literally gives him more open looks since the opponents’ defense is not focused on him since he has SGA, JDub, and Giddey by his side. Meanwhile, Wemby as first option, being gameplanned and being the focus of his opponent’s defense every game, is producing way more in lesser playing time. It also does not help that Wemby has a bunch of G-leaguers as his teammattes.
And to say that Chet has more pressure than Wemby is ridiculous. Y’all are the same guys who hyped up Wemby even before he stepped on U.S. soil, calling him the ‘biggest prospect since Bron’ and even comparing him to both MJ and Bron even before his first Summer League game. Y’all put all that pressure on him. And now since he’s doing well individually, you keep on moving the goalpost on him. Wemby can’t help it that the team which drafted him is one of the worst teams in the league. I don’t know why y’all penalizing Wemby for being in a lottery team that is probably tanking again this season for more high draft picks. Y’all know better than to expect a rookie to carry the worst team in the league who has no vets and no other superstar. Even Bron couldn’t do that in his rookie season and he’s arguably the GOAT.

Yeah I think the Thunder are the biggest pretenders in the leauge right now, their fooling everyone. They have a super bright future and im not saying a championship isn't possible, it's just possible way further down the line. Their last two games agaisn't the lakers/clippers were telling, the team absolutely falls in love with the 3 point shot, and though they show great effort on defense they don't have a ton rangy defender's or defensive specialists outside of Dort and Chet. Not to mention the team doesn't rebound all that well. In a playoff setting when things slow down, I think their gonnae struggle alot. And as a side note everyone was harping on Wemby beign too skinny for the leauge, well for Chet I think those critques are warranted for him, he just get's bodied up by any decent center thrown his way and is a poor rebounder.

Chet is not a rookie thats it, a year on the road with teamates, learning the nba, traveling learning how to take care of the jet lag, preparing for the next season in terms of strategy and workout he had a year or preparation whereas Victor just arrived from a draft and played with a team learning how to play and how to play with him knowing nothing about nba, rules, travel, fatigue who prepared only for one summer after a busy summer in france. Comon guys you cant be serious.
Victor showed in the same restriction min that in a team that allow him to exist like Chet actually is in his franchise in a well oiled machine he could destroy every body that is through at him.

@41:23 and RJ giving the example of Malcolm Brogdon winning Rookie of the Year during the 2016-17 season "... because he was the starting point guard for the #1 seed…” - Try not to have selective memory about this and remember the full picture: Brogdon won the award over Joel Embiid because Embiid only played 31 games that season, after SITTING OUT THE ENTIRETY OF HIS FIRST TWO SEASONS (he was drafted in 2014). Brogdon averaged both the fewest points per game and fewest minutes per game of any winner in the award's history and yet I think he still isn't the worst Rookie of the Year ever, with that distinction probably going to Mike Miller in 2001-02.

As if you cant build a Team around steph.
You can trade Wiggins + GP2 + Picks for something
You can trade CP3 + Moody + Picks for something
You can trade Klay + Looney + Picks for something
Thats 3 offers, each with 1 Allstar + one good Role player + First Round Pick.
If you can get back 1 Player each trade thats already enough. As long as there is 1 Center and 1 Shooter and 1 Defender in these.
And even after trading all this you still have:
Steph, Green, Kuminga, Saric, Podziemski + 3 Good players and some Bench Players for Cap (since most warriors players have high contracts)
Sounds like a good playoff team to me.

The argument for CHET being better than WEMBY is totally absurd and does not hold water at all.
Both are considered super rookies at this point in their young careers, but if we are to look at the numbers, bruh... WEMBY is clearly a superior player and way better than CHET.
    WEMBY - 19.8 pts, 10.1 rebs, 2.9 assts, 3.1 blks, 1.1 steals
    CHET - 17.4 pts, 7.3 rebs, 2.8 assts, 2.5 blks, 0.7 steals
These are the NBA's 5 major statistical categories and Wemby tops Chet 5 to nothing. The notion that Chet is better than Wemby because of Chet's "efficiency" and field goal percentage and Chet's Wins is purely nonsensical. It's like saying Rudy Gobert is better than Jokic and AD simply because Gobert's FG% is at a whopping 63.4% for the season while contributing a double-double with 13.1 pts and 12.2 rebs so he's having quite an "impact" to his T'Wolves team who currently sits atop the Western Conference. So, should we just then disregard Jokic's season ave of 25.5 pts, 11.9 rebs, 9.3 assts while shooting "only" at 57.5% or AD's 25.1 pts, 12.1 rebs, 3.5 asst at "only" 55.1 FG%?!? Jokic is almost averaging a triple double for the season but since Gobert 's FG% is way higher and the Wolves are in the top spot in the West, Gobert then is your MVP? Is that it? Because, again, the argument for Gobert's is that he's much more efficient with his shot at 63.4% and his team is the Best in the West?! While Gobert's efforts are worthy of high praise, one cannot agree to this dumb idea that Gobert is better than Jokic and AD. Unfortunately, numbers dont lie. Same goes for Wemby and Chet. While Chet is indeed better in terms of efficiency, FG% and wins, Wemby is still the better player overall and the best Rookie (so far), and it's not even close! I mean, c'mon, look at Wemby's numbers again in pts, rebs, assts, blks and stls, all better than Chet's. Wemby is better offensively and defensively, that's on both ends of the court. He's also better with his playmaking and hustle plays, averaging a double-double and he even leads the league in blocks per game and total blocks made. That latter part alone should tilt towards Wemby's favor as that's the entire NBA we are talking about, whereas Chet, he rides only with SGA's brilliance night in and night out! The Wins you see in the win column are not solely "Chet Wins" but OKC Wins, which should be attributed to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's MVP type of play for the entire season, who is averaging 31.3 pts and 6.3 assts and a league leading 2.3 stls. We should compare Chet and Wemby by what they've been doing and what they've achieved personally. Individual stats should matter in this particular case. Not team wins aided by some otherworldly teammates such as SGA, who is the absolute driving force behind OKC's wins.
And what the hell you talkin about pressure every single night that Chet is only the one going through with that? You kidding me? WEMBY has it even more due to the fact that before even playing a single game in the NBA, he is already considered by many, including the very critical media, as a generational talent. Wemby has to win, otherwise he'll be a "bust". That is just one of the pressure Wemby has to go through, night in and night out. He is in a tougher situation because Coach Pop is stubborn like a mad scientist, doing that Sochan experiment for the longest time. The minutes restriction also adds to the pressure for him to perform, his teammates are inconsistent and all mediocre at best. They are also the youngest team prone to errors. I could go on and on. Wemby has to carry this load, this burden, this pressure.
It is also important to note that, FG% is just a minor stat. We look up to these superstar players such as Jordan, Lebron, Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Curry, Giannis, Jokic, etc because of the spectacular numbers they produce in the NBA's 5 major statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in any given night. FG% is just indicative of how hot they are that night or how badly they shot at the rim, nothing more. As long as these players get to 80 pts, 70 pts, 60 pts, 50 pts or 40 pts or 30 pts, nobody cares how many shots it took them to get those points. We're just in awe of what they've done. Same with rebounds or blocks for the bigs, and assists and steals for the guards or wing players. The impact in the game is mostly reflected by these 5 major stat categories they produce each night. And of course, there are other factors to consider, like how great your teammates played that night, or how they totally sucked at it, and there's the coaching as well, not to mention the total minutes played, and/or the minutes restrictions, all of these contributes a lot on Winning and/or Losing the games you played in. But in terms of the head-to-head match up between Wemby and Chet, I gotta say that so far, WEMBY is undeniably a much better player than Chet right now as shown by his season averages. WEMBY leads CHET in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks per game. Wemby should take the top spot in any Rookie of the Year rankings and should win the ROY award when it's all said and done, not because of the narrative such as the Lebron-Melo race back in 2004, but because WEMBY is absolutely the better scorer, the better rebounder, the better at assisting teammates, the better at shotblocking and steals than Chet.
    GO! SPURS! GO!

If Golden State gives up their protection on the pick this year, they will have 3 first round picks they can trade and another one they can swap. That's enough to get Lauri Markenan if you're trading Kuminga, 4 picks, and CP3 or other salary filler for Lauri. That's the only deal they can afford while not giving up on this team

😂 If you put Wemby on OKC, they'd be clear number 1 seed. If you put Chet in Spurs, they'd be even worse. So how is Chet better? And he doesn't have more pressure. He's actually in his 2nd year with the team. Victor is in a completely different country and the first option on his team. Shaq, Barkley and Kenny on TNT said it... being 1st option is harder and you put Wemby on OKC, they're better than they are with Chet.

If wemby was on OKC he would be averaging atleast 25 on good efficiency because shai would get him better looks. While chet would go down in efficiency and average maybe one or two more points. The spurs are losing because they want to and purposely put wemby in a bad spot to start the year. Now they finally are playing him at 5 with a true PG and his numbers and efficiency are going up only problem is he’s on a minutes restriction. Wemby has shown up and went head to head vs jokic ad kd and Giannas. The few times the spurs have been in close games wemby shows up and plays well it’s not his fault his teammates don’t look for him. The Malcom brogdon ROTY only happened because Ben Simmons was out the whole year if Ben was healthy even on a bad team and brogdon was winning Simmons would’ve still won ROTT over him because ROTY is not a team award it’s the best overall rookie. Wemby is leading rookies in almost every category including defensive and rebounding categories. Wemby is leading the whole NBA not just rookies in blocked shots that alone should put him ahead in ROTY. Again it’s not his fault the spurs are terrible defensively. Look at the stats with him on and off the floor defensively the spurs go from middle of the pack defensively with him on the floor and all time bad without him. I actually have no idea why ppl are deciding to now factor winning into ROTY when it’s never been a factor.

Wemby bas been averaging 24 on great efficiency for a long stretch. Chet is the more efficient offensive player, but wemby is better at literally everything else. Better defender, better rebounder, better playmaker. Wemby is the better player. Ask anyone "who would you want to start your franchise off with Wemby or Chet" anybody who knows anything about basketball is taking wemby
