  • Can you install drywall in your basement vertically to avoid butt joints on your walls?
That is this week's Monday Mailbag question from Raj. Drywall is the biggest subtask of your basement project. We will be doing more videos about drywall in the future.
I'd like to thank everyone who has subscribed, left comments, emailed questions and reached out for video calls and phone calls. The biggest return I get is knowing this channel is helping people.
Because of all the questions, I've set up a poll in the CZcams posts for the channel on whether or not it would help if I did a CZcams live Q & A. Please check it out and give me your choice.
Thanks for watching and good luck on your project.

For a 14' wall width, could I do 2 sheets of 10' horizontal, and then for the 4' could I use vertical sheets and stagger (top 4' v +10' h & for bottom 10' h + 4' v). This way the top v joint will have 1 tapered edge. Thanks

I'll send you something in the next couple of days explaining it. But you're on the right track!

Hi coach, this is a very informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I have a couple of questions related to basement. Might be trivial but they are nagging the hell out of me.
    1. Nails: 3 in ribbed 0.120 nails or 3 1/4 in nails ?
2 . My builder framed along the wall with 2x3 with 2ft center, is it advisable to leave it as is/ or add braces/ remove and redo
3 . Gas lines running perpendicular along the bottom on the trusses/joists, how do we handle them
    4. The truss/joists are of 2x3 on both sides with 45 degree metal connecting both and running along the length of the truss. And there are a lot of vibrations when, is it ok to nail 2x3/2x4/2x2 to the bottom of the truss to gain additional stability and reduce the vibrations.
Currently I am like your friend, staring at the joists and the basement for a long time and then walk back into main floor. 😁
I apologise in advance if I am asking a lot of questions and if this is not the right place. If so please let me know where I can send a mail I can ask these more formally.

      Hi Ravi,
I've got some follow up and you can email me your response at basementcoach@gmail.com.
      1. These nails are for a framing gun? Either one is fine.
      2. 2x3 at 24" OC is going to leave waves in your drywall. If you're planning on leaving it in, which given the price of lumber is understandable, you'll want to consider blocking between the studs so your drywall finish isn't crappy.
      3. If you're gas line is below the joist you can strap down the ceiling or have the gas line relocated so you can board straight to the joist. Depends on what you're willing to spend on it.
      4. Are your floor joist I-beam type joists? Can you send me a pic?
      Hope this helps!

I will be sending the pictures shortly.
      Thanks once again -- Ravi

Hey coach, what about standups when the frost wall is ICF?

I don’t have much experience with ICF (meaning zero). My guess would be, if everything is plumb and straight have at her?
