Cool video James. It’s nice to see some of your tips and tricks. Most of us have hung Sheetrock to some degree, but the what/why/how stuff is cool to see. I’ve learned a great deal from your channel.

Late to the video but honestly the only video of using a lift I've seen where someone actually shows how to use the lift in the middle of the ceiling. Best video for it.
best thing about a lift. It shows up every day. Doesnt have substance problems. I actually use a harbor freight lift. Get about 3-4 years out of one. They are cheaply made, but you can buy 8-9 for what a "good " one costs, and even the good ones break cables, break casters, etc. Dont tell OSHA but I popped the springs out of the safety so it just lays backwards and doesnt catch
I like that. I've never used one but plan to get one since I'm now in my 50's and this body has seen its better days. You young bucks can sling it and bang it moving forward.

Ya good description, i had a few issues with that drywall lift. At the time i didn't realize the brake and it was sticking this video clears all the uses of using a drywall lift as well as showing a good way to lift long awkward pieces by yourself. Once constructive criticism i want to mention is you can add about having the metal grabbing feet out when placing the drywall on the lift. And some lifts have locking caster wheels so you can lock the wheels from moving on you to. Great video i learned a few tips from it.

Solid video, super helpful. Just about to hang some lids with the new (old, just got it from a retiring contractor) lift and this was great to see the whole process. Liked the pro-tip on scribing the sheet cuts instead of using the T-square. Seems like you guys have fun on your crew.. Dig it. I feel slightly more pro now after watching this.

Learn to subtract, saves your tape as well as time. I hung houses in Missouri for years as big as anything Ive seen you guys do but we have 14s and 16s also. 3 man crew 2 on a bench 1 man on stilts. Hang the lids and top sheets while in there with no trash to trip over. Split up and go to opposite ends of the house and meet in the middle. But we nailed the perimeter and screwed the field. As far as that goes 1 guy can hang a 16 on top wall by himself with top nails. Gives you a use for that high dollar hammer other than a pry bar. But you guys do things your own way, I get it. We were piece workers, never would use a lift too slow. Have a good one.

Compared to your normal work vlogs this was an excellent video. For anyone that is looking to finish their basement off or do their own diy home improvement it was nice to see some of the tricks of the trade. This lift has earned its keep since you bought it and compared to two other lifts I have used i think they all have a similar design. Watch your head lowering it!!! James, a video on routing out boxes and some of the tricks you have for routing and following the inside or outside of them would be nice to see.
Very important like you said have at least 4 or 6 screws set before letting go of the sheet. Had a dude i was working with keep telling me "your good your good, just step back and let go because you're in the way." So i eventually got sick of him arguing, let go and stepped back and the 5/8 sheet fell down and t-peed him. 10 years ago but i still laugh when i think about it

I used one of those by harbor freight and I hanged drywall by myself. It's a good aide as far as lifting 12 footers by yourself. I like it but the cable is little flimsy... But I noticed I had to be extra careful with twisting that wheel (that thing can come Down on your head suddenly, you have hang on to the wheel) .. And the locking mechanism is cheap quality... But once I tacked it with screws I was able to get it done. I did quality work for my disabled cousin. I got her done 👍

Well done. I have hung 12’ sheets with a second man. But It was 54 years ago.
I want to hang 12-14 sheets in my basement. Renting a lift looks like I could do it myself.
I work alone flipping homes and years ago I lifted sheets by hand...what a pain. Got a lift and what a change. It's not just the lifting that's helpful...for me, because I'm no expert, the lift gives me the time to get the sheet into the perfect position. Time to check out of square room, warped joist, wrong length sheet or other problem and easy to bring the sheet down so I can fix the problem.
I use the lift to hang the top sheets on walls too. Also use the lift to get other materials into an attic like insulation.
I’m glad you mentioned the top sides. Wondered if it could do that. I gotta hang 12 ft 5/8ths by myself. Figured I could do the middles ones (11ft ceilings) with the HF hydraulic cart.

Finally someone on CZcams that looks, talks, acts, and most of all hangs like a real drywaller! Rock on bro, we are the unsung hero’s of over insulated crooked framing. Where u guys at? What’s the goin rate per sq ft for hangers there? With electrical filling walls more and more and insulation and RC being over done this ship just don’t pay enough to do it right anymore in Oregon

Work for a G.C that does a lot of different forms of construction. We bought one two years ago an its still going strong. One of the few expensive tools I'd recommend.
You are quite wrong about it being an Expensive Tool, it is amortised among its use on many Jobs, Its very Cheap actually, when you calculate the returns once it is paid for one time.
@@carminemurray6624 Totally agree. I think I meant that's it's one of the few expansive (ish) tools from harbor freight I'd recommend. Normally there stuff isn't the best quality.

How much room do you leave on the edges to get a piece in between 2 walls. Let’s say you measure 100, would you cut at 99 1/2”
I'm using that same drywall lift for solar panels. I have the same concerns and more about the design. Have you found a better one?
Great video man!! You probably already made one but what about a video on using a drywall router? I got one have been using it for a couple of years now. I don't hang every day but it still have issues with it sometimes. Different style boxes are the issue with it going hay wire on me. Any tips would be very appreciated!!! Keep up the good work!!

That safety lever will slide to the side of the notches and stay there. Once it comes down there’s a lil fork that’ll center the lever back to the holes Incase u forget to slide it back over.
I was about to say that. The directions for this unit was lacking if I recall. You have to figure most of it out yourself.

If the rubber goes out on the brake you can allways use a belt off an car or truck engine. I found that out hanging a 1400 foot addition on a house.
just now doing a 40 sheet job..8 foot 5/8"...may sound crazy to you but I need 1.00 a foot to hang it and 2.00 a foot to tape and texture...just to make 40 bucks an hour...
if you pull that safety out and slightly off to the side it will stay out so you don't have to hold it. when the lift hits the bottom it clicks back in.

Question. If you didn't have that lift would you have cut it in half. Or do they not let you. Or if your one guy can you cut it in half and put it or does the hole sheet have to be put up like you did ?

Quick question. Can I use a lift like this to position a sheet on an incline for a vaulted ceiling? I have a ceiling runs from 8 feet up to 16 feet high in the center of the room and tops off at the chimney. So the ceiling slopes up maybe 30 degrees. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I've Never done it. Probably start from the top down with the lift
@@NomadicINK - well, the clips would need to stay in place to keep it from sliding and you would need to apply Liquid Nails on the rafters to glue it down first and it would still need to be a 2 man job on top of a scaffold. . Not a 1 man job on an incline.
Does it only work for drywall? I have a plywood wood panel that has 1.5 x 3 inch edges. Does it work for that?
You can use it for any panel really. Given it doesn't exceed the weight limit
