Bill, I hope you see this as I owe you a Thank You. I collect replica props from various sci-fi shows and was recently re-watching Stargate: Atlantis and noticed the characters doing martial arts practice with "Bantos Rods" and thought I'd like to acquire a pair. After some internet searching I found nothing for sale. Oh well, no big deal....
Then I realized, "Hey, I can MAKE them. Bill showed me the process".
I took some screenshots from the series, found pics of the real props (the site also mentioned the rods length and other general info not see in pics), wooden dowels I already had, paint I already had, bought some foam and glue.
A week later, I had 2 very accurate Bantos Rods for maybe $20 in materials. Thanks to the info your videos.

I actually have one of these kits that I bought from you in 2012 (according to the emails I saved), and I painted it up back then. I wish I had thought of using 5-min epoxy on the pommel since whatever my past newbie self tried did not have a nice, glassy finish like I wanted. Nothing says I can't do it now though! About 17 years for my longest project. Was into anime garage kits back in the late 90s when I was in high school. Last kit I had was of Major Kusanagi from Ghost In The Shell. Had some issue with the primer I was using really not liking the resin she was cast with. Wasn't able to figure out a solution before I graduated HS and left for college. Rediscovered her in a box in my mom's garage when I was home for Thanksgiving about three years ago, decided to finally get her painted. Been back into hobby painting since.

I have a "Mopkin" puppet that I've had since I was about 12 and I'm 38 now. I'd been intending to work on it since I got it, 26 years now, and I just now got around to disassembling and upgrading it. I cut off the head to add a neck with a different material, removed the arms and legs and re-stuffed them. Stuffed the body that was just an open sleeve, reattached the arms and legs now with hanger wire for "bones," so I could add joints, changed the shape of the hands and feet and put magnets in the feet. Also added a sleeve that goes in the back through the neck into the head. The only thing machine sewn is the shape of the sleeve, everything else is hand sewn. Right now I'm working on the eyes and adding upper eyelids. When it's done it will keep my nieces and nephew entertained, at least until they're older.

My longest project, cnc machined d20 dice. I made the first test cuts 13 years ago. They still sit in my shelfs, I updated the gcode (handwritten btw) but don't have access on a cnc 5 axis machine anymore. So the gcode is still waiting to be run.

Bill have you ever tried truck bed liner for texture? Walmart sells it in spray paint form and it has a fine matte bumpy finish.

I have actually! I used i as the base for something a while back - I can't remember for the life of me which build it was though.

The 1:96 scale USS Constitution it’s mostly done. Just the sails left but it was my first model. Absolutely overestimated what it takes to make a model ship started it in 2012. I’m terrified to go back to it.

Queen sized crochet blanket. Started it when me da taught me how to do the double blanket stitch before he died. That was 22 years ago. Gave it to a friend for a wedding present this year.

Full sized space marine armor from warhammer 40k. Started out the pepakura part of the build about 9 years ago. Still not finished :) Mostly because I found your channel and started using foam instead of paper and resins. Pt. building a space marine armor for my son. Just a month and a half so far.

I'm wondering if there's other cheaper, more basic glues that can get the job done with the leather texture?
It looks soooooooo damn good! The texture is absolutely mindblowing once its painted

my longest-standing project that needs to get done is a suit of mail armor that I have been working on for the last 8 years...If you count the things I have patterns I made and never got around to actually making the item then its 15 + years lol. Granted those old patterns were canceled commissions when people realized making things cost more money then they think it will.

I know you just did a Foam Mandalorian/Boba Fett helm. But have you thought about doing full Mandolorian Mercs requirement compliant armour using expanded pvc board? (like Sintra)
Would be useful for wannabe mercs, plus you could join them for some trooping.
