    Thank you to Steve Weiss Music for sending me one of the first few Liberty One Mallet Kings! It's definitely a great start to what can hopefully be the advent of more stylish, functional and well designed stick bags. let me know what you think of the Mallet King below, and whether you'd cop one for yourself! Thanks for watching as always :)

    My teacher carried his Abe mallets in a Woolworths plastic bag. Waterproof, great volume and can fit in cabin too 🙃

  • @JGpercussion
    @JGpercussion Před 5 lety +22

    It's carry-on approved for airplanes in USA :)
    Seriously though thank you for clarifying this. I would probably bring it in the cabin and hope for the best.
    Nice review btw !! are you going to PASIC this year ?? Would be great to meet you.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  Před 5 lety +3

      Hey Jason!! Thanks for watching, that's interesting! I still can't find any airline that operates in the US (e.g. AA, DL, Jet Blue, Southwest, United etc) that has dimensions that would allow this bag to be carry on (22x14x9 vs 20x17x12). Even Spirit, which is the most generous at 22x18x10 is still not enough. Would be interesting to see how they determined this bag to be carry on approved...
      And would be great to meet you too - unfortunately it looks like I won't be hitting up PASIC this year due to how expensive it is for me. Maybe next year!

      Adam Tan hey so I know I’m three months late but their is a website called gear4music and they sell a 3 octave marimba for 600 usd so maybe you should try instead of the 1500 one

  • @drdrums1

    I could see buying it. I do orchestral gigs, and it would be nice to have a bag that lets me take my keyboard mallets, timpani mallets, drum sticks and brushes, as well as toys like my triangle, shaker, tambourine, etc. easily in a single case.
    Right now, I'm split between two overly-full bags to take everything (no room for my growing collection of marimba mallets!), plus toys in other cases.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  Před 5 lety +3

      That would make sense, to have all your items in one bag :) If it had wheels it would be even better for your situation I think!

    You missed a use Adam at the conclusion, - it's a very Good Gong Mallet Bag. The Gong crowd has very little to choose from. The Tube style does not make it for Gong Mallets, unless you only want to take a few; whereas this bag holds a wide array of large and small Gong Mallets and Marimba mallets which I also use. Being an instructor, it's a wonderful case to set up and get easy access to my mallets. I agree, wheels and a handle would be a great start. Backpack straps for Gong Players is a toss up by artist I suppose. Great video - thanks.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  Před 4 lety +2

      This is a good point!! Didn't think of gong mallets at all - and yes I think it's a great case for instructors firsthand. Thanks for watching!

    thanks for reviewing this! I was waiting to see what other people thought of the stick bag. I think my bags will do for now, but I definitely see this as an option, maybe for at-home storage. That way I can keep all my mallets in one place and have them standing.

    • @AdamTanPercussion

    Considering I, a college student, have abandoned my traditional backpack for my moderately large stick bag (which fits most of my sheet music most of the time), I think the mallet king would be good for me. Especially given that some days I will need all my books, materials, instruments, and mallets with me the whole day because the day is spread too thin. So I think for a busy student it might be quite useful, but then again, I have yet to buy it.

    Hey Adam, look for the Ortola Special Stick Bag... Kind of like the Liberty One, but with wheels and a telescopic handle. Seriously thinking about getting one of those for teaching and performing with orchestras.
    Not sure about the sizes and mallet capacity, but it looks quite big as well. Almost forgot, it's a bit more expensive...
    Keep up the good work and keep sending out reviews like this 👏

    @crazedstix Před rokem

    I've had this bag for 2 years and didn't realize there was a second side Velcro pocket. It's convenient for me because I've eliminated the need to carry an additional accessories bag and can now carry everything in one trip. Backpack style also works because I don't have to worry about the shoulder strap slipping off while my two hands/arms are filled. The drawbacks: the side zipper pockets don't fully open all the way so you're kind of stuck with 3/4 access; forgetting where you might have stored something; losing smaller mallets in the cluster of all the other mallets.

    Hey Adam!! Quick question. I’m just wondering if the mallets, beaters etc can go in the plane with me or will I have to check it in to go under the plane?

  • @travisgoffredo150
    @travisgoffredo150 Před 3 lety

    I do like the idea of putting some wheels on the King bag...Have you seen the Tour Bag version? Dims are 9x12x19 which should be inside most TSA guidelines. I have been torn in deciding to buy both; to have for in studio storage and then a gigging/audition travel bag. My current situation is a system of 3 galaxy bags (keyboard/stick/pit&drumset) with large beaters in a Lowes bucket. I also have a few older fold style bags carrying my non day to day...certainly should clean house this summer....
    Thank you for the thorough & honest review! Your content is well detailed and am very thankful for your contributions to the global percussion community!
    It is rather hard to tell how large the bag on the web and for sure seeing it on She-E obviously makes it look even larger xD BUT...
    The Tour Bag may be worth looking at if you have not seen it.
    All the Best!

  • @remcamofficial3476

    Yea great review and I definitely would love to buy this but since I'm from Europe (The Netherlands), the bag itself costs around €90 - which is even a bit less than I expected - but when I see the shipping costs of more than €100, I simply cannot afford that. Do you have any issues with expensive shippings or any idea how to get rid of those?

  • @DeeboComing

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  Před 5 lety +1

      I guess the Marimba One mallet bag is probably your best bet if you want to fit a lot of mallets in, but if you're happy with around 10-12 then maybe you'd prefer the Adams Smart Pack (still the best looking mallet backpack so far in my opinion!)

    How does everyone think this compares to the freer vertical stage mallet bag? I have one and while it isn’t a backpack, I think it’s a great large sized mallet bag, and perfect with the removable tiered pouches

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  Před 5 lety +2

    • @dakotamellen5549
      @dakotamellen5549 Před 5 lety

      That is totally fair, but I’ve loved my Freer. I currently use the Freer Vertical Standing Case for my Glock, Xylo, Vibe, Marimba mallets, and Snare sticks/brushes. I also use the Galaxy bag for chime hammers, bass drum beaters, and timpani mallets.

    • @corywoessner2809

      @@dakotamellen5549 Like you I'm torn between the $$$$ Freer and this bag. I mostly do orchestral/pit jobs where I'm bringing in several bass drum mallets and an array of keyboard mallets and sticks. How does the Freer case manage BD mallets etc?

  • @myotiswii
    @myotiswii Před rokem

    I don't have a mallet bag right now. I always just throw my 12 marimba mallets and 6 timpani mallets into a normal backpack. I want a stand up bag, and 100 bucks is really good. Also I need a backpack since I generally walk or bike to rehearsal.
    Sooo I thought getting the smaller version, but why? Like I want all the space I can get.
