  • Today, we’ll go over the long-haul economy class flight experience onboard an Airbus A350-900 from Helsinki (HEL) to Singapore (SIN). This video will first go over some trip background and how we chose Finnair over competing airlines. We’ll then move on to reviewing the actual flight. And then, at the very end, we’ll wrap things up by offering some thoughts and opinions on the Finnair long-haul experience in this particular cabin class. So, let’s get started…

    Note: A spokesperson for Finnair confirms that the offering of a single meal option (in addition to taking complimentary pre-orders for special meals for special diets and allergies) is a strategy for waste reduction. The carrier found that, when a second option was offered, a lot of food ended up becoming waste - which didn't fit with its ethos.

    • @UKabroad1967
      @UKabroad1967 Před rokem +12

      The spokesperson for Finnair perhaps should realise that a frequent flyer who is well travelled can spot this strategy from miles away as pure “cost cutting”.
      There is a fine line between an airline being sustainably focussed vs. An airline just being so damn cheap (i.e. can’t be bothered to spend a dime on catering) - unfortunately Finnair falls on the latter category, no matter how much their PR/Marketing team wants to spin this as a “positive” thing - they can’t trick the more well versed traveller.
      Unfortunately their fantasy “sustainability” cost cutting strategy may work in Economy but this is absolutely a disaster in Business class where you pay almost the same price as ME3 but offered just ONE option for your second meal on a 14h flight……..
      I’m sorry but I ain’t buying the whole “sustainability” BS. People can get very very “creative” when it comes to cost cutting.
      Their so called “Ethos” is none other than “cost cutting is in our DNA” but hey let’s mask all that behind a sustainable BS (excuse) strategy.

    Finnair has a pretty good quality-price ratio, also in Business class. On Finnair's HEL-SIN/HKG routes the cabin crews are all outsourced, there's no service available in Finland's official languages Finnish/Swedish. It seems the Finnish passengers don't mind but just imagine if they tried this on AF flights :D

    Before the war and Covid my family and I used Finnair so many times to fly to Hong Kong from Germany. They always had good food onboard and cheap prices. The reduction of flight time to Asia from Europe was their biggest advantage but unfortunately they are not able to use it now. But I would still consider flying with especially with their new A350s my favourite aircraft

    I've flown Finnair in business class on their older A330, which was decent enough. However, it's unlikely that I'd go out of my way to try their economy class product unless they had a fare that couldn't be refused.

    I've taken this flight several times and I find the seats and cabin environment a lot more comfortable than other airlines like Emirates that have a 3-4-3 configuration. The meal option from Singapore to Helsinki is better than this Helsinki to Singapore route. I really don't like the chicken quinoa and I don't like the lentil filling in the otherwise tasty lasagna. The entertainment selection is limited compared to Middle Eastern carriers and Singapore Airlines. That said, the overall experience is still quite good in my opinion and I often look forward to my next flight on Finnair.

    I’ll never ever fly them again. When buying tickets, it seems the flight is pretty affordable but then you have to add all the extras like baggage and food and you turn up with a price higher than Qatar’s. Imagine that this is an airline that charges additionally for luggage in business class. YES! You can buy business class tix with carry on only. The food they’re serving on 11 hrs flight is dreadful and portions are ridiculously small. It’s basically Ryanair’s quality with premium price.

    Flew HEL-BKK in the A350 in 2017 and the flight was far at the moment the worst of all my flights to Asia until 2023 when I flew AMS-BKK in a KLM’s 777.
    Having flown twice a year to Asia for the last 10 yrs (excluding Covid times), always Economy, there is no doubt for me that the fare of European carriers has to be significantly lower than Middle East airlines for me to chose them.

    As a frequent flyer, I don't know if I could have eaten the food. Neither dish looked or sounded good to me. Like you said most airlines offer two options. This is one reason I always carry me some snacks with me. The seats look comfy but flight entertainment screen is tilted back which would make it harder to see the screen if the seat in front of you was reclined since the screen can't be adjusted. So, I'll pass but thanks for the review.

    Flew with Finnair from Heathrow to Bangkok via Helsinki (return) over Christmas. It was all fine except for the meals. The quality of the food is very good but the portion sizes are tiny. On this 12 hour flight two tiny meals is not good enough. You do have the option to buy overpriced food when you inevitibly get hungry. Also the wood cutlery is not very pleasant to use, feels like a cheapskate option.
    For this alone I wont be using them again which is a shame as the rest of the experience was fine.
