Whiting/ground mullet are very clean and great eating... the nematodes in the flesh of the white trout are why they are often discarded. Great vid, Tug!

Whiting is also known as a Southern Kingfish, or dip waiting to happen in my house. One of my favorites due to ease of catching, cleaning and the taste.

I like cooking up a mess of fish like redfish, trout , then cut them up bite size and just grab some as I walk by plate all day. ☺. Nothing better then eating fish all day.

If you don’t cut all the way through the tail and just flip it over it makes it so much easier to fillet off the skin because you have so much more to hold onto and it makes it easier. Try it sometime, just a tip. Love your videos and Happy New Year 🎉

A definite winner of the mother/daughter look alike contest, those are some of the biggest whiting I've ever seen and putting your fish in the saltwater/ice slurry is the best way to preserve them, it is also the most humane way to dispatch blue crab....nice work.

Man now that’s some good olé family fun right there, and loved all the sarcasm and excitement lol.. Man if they eating some whiting they missing out that’s all I’m gonna say about that. I lived in Osceola county since the 80’s until 2020 when we finally decided it was time for a new adventure and man I’m telling you I sure miss the fishing brother. Fresh whiting, Crappie and tilapia was a staple around our house. Keep up the awesome videos man I’m glad I found your channel yesterday, although you got me wanting to take a Florida Roadtrip now👍🤣

Especially when you are away from home & you had planned to have a cook out dinner. But I am glad to hear that it way just one day man. I know there are like 4 kinds of whiting, but where I live (Mobile,Al) we call those ground mullet. They are so good to eat ! I differentiate them as bay whiting and beach whiting. Ground mullet are bay whiting.

Great video. Been following you for a bit. In the Marine construction industry myself, and loved the fact you gave a plug to House-Autry. My family was on the House side of that mill. Excellent.

@@TugTrashOutdoors well there used to be two mills in and around Newton Grove NC. The House mill and the Autry mill. A consortium of investors bought them both and merged them into 1 mill. I remember the House mill grind being powered by a water wheel. Pretty neat to see.

Damn! I love catching whiting in the surf at St George Island but they aren't near that big!! Great tip on the icing the fish - I use ice and saltwater when icing speckled trout, yellow mouths or whiting - we usually cook them the day of catching but if not it keeps them from getting mushy!

On the NC coast they are called Virginia Mullet. But all the same. Whitting, VA mullet, or King fish, still taste the same.

We call whiting "ground mullet" in Alabama
White trout are the best. I caught one here on dauphin island that was 5 lbs 8 oz. The world record was caught on dauphin island at 6 lbs 2 oz. I was close it wasn't very long only 21 inches

How deep was tht water and did you use radar to find them? im gonna try to see if i can catch some whiting in the bay, always caught them in the surf. rarely have i caught sand trout but when theyre around they bite for sure. i live in TX so may be a difference but not that much.

Those were some horse whiting. I haven’t caught any near that size here in Texas. I’m always the only one on the boat who wants to keep em then when we fry em up with some specs everyone likes the whiting better.
