  • Dan Aspel is your guide to this thrilling Grade 1 scramble in Snowdonia, one of the country’s most popular ridge scrambles.
As one of the hardest routes up Snowdon, it is appropriate for experienced mountain walkers who are comfortable with heights. It is not a route for novice hill walkers.

Did the Pyg Track at 12 years old with a halfwitted scout master who managed to lead us all up Crib Goch - then the weather came in - remarkable how crisp and clear the memories are - terror has a way of sharpening the mind.

Went over this in 1991 as a young 17 year old army recruit whilst on Adventure Training. The weather was absolutely howling and i was terrified lol. Loved it though

Stunning Dan, thanks. My wife and I did this years back, we were on our hands and knees at one point and a more experienced couple walked straight past us. I'd done a lot of Alpine style climbing prior to that at the old grades of 'dif' and 'v-dif' so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. It might be technically easier but there's no rope to catch you if you stumble. It's serious stuff , not to be messed with.

My cousin's friend nearly died because of Grib Goch my cousin told him to meet him at the car park but 4 hours went by and his friend was no where to be found it was later found that he was at the cliff of Grib Goch and a man risked his life to save him it was a crazy story because the mountains deceived him because he thought he could go down it

Someone has just died today on this walking their dog. I’m not sure why you would walk yourself and your dog into danger. The dog is ok but for the poor lady RIP.,

In the fact file maybe it should add knowledgeable use of Map and compass as apposed to just owning them. Just a thought.

its a very dangerous place there but I'm not sure how map and compass would reduce the risk of falling

Warning: the music to this is shite and painfully loud, it’s intermittent and considerably louder than the commentary whereby if you reduce the volume to make the music bearable you can’t hear what’s being said! This is such a basic technical mistake and easily resolved but the music adds nothing to the experience other than irritation so I’d suggest deleting it entirely.

I'm surprised this is even an official route. A day out is not worth risking your life for

Nope, not even with a gun to my head. I'd rather take the head shot than die a thousand times on that ridge. I felt sick watching it :-(
1:40 onwards is ridiculous. This is a low grade 'scramble' ???

We walked part of that route on way down after reaching the summit...we turned back though as my wife felt very uneasy about carrying on walking on a ridge .
If you fall or slip then thats it ..so i agree with your comment.

It’s graded as a 1 because it’s not technically difficult. The exposure level though is as high or higher than many scrambles at higher grades.
