Just because that is what they say the law means now, doesn't mean that because I the vague wording that it could mean a block on opinions in the future. There are many times a law had meant one thing at time of writing, then another thing years down the road. Clarifying laws through their wording is a big issue, and often laws need to be repealed or rewritten to reflect that.

      @Luís Filipe Andrade Reports that say it "may" or "could" be worse (if you were to smoke like 30+ joints a day and basically suffocate yourself), despite also clearly stating that there's still not enough evidence, don't exactly back up the claim. Too much of anything can be harmful, you can drink too much water and dilute the sodium in your blood causing hyponatremia and possibly die too, but we don't look at it that way? Everything in moderation. If you seriously believe that a plant you could grow from a seed in a flower pot in your basement, and that has been proven to have several health benefits is "infinitely worse" than tobacco that contains arsenic, battery acid, ammonia, acetone, etc, and has been proven time and time again to cause several cancers and diseases, then I don't know what to tell you. I've smoked marijuana for over a decade, I have not lost any lung capacity, I exercise daily, I don't have cancer or heart disease, my teeth aren't yellow and black, my skin doesn't droop or permanently stink, my appetite is normal, I'm not dependent on it and don't get angry and irritable when I don't have it, I have never ODed or attacked anyone in a blind, stoned rage, I can still perform normally in every day life, my throat doesn't hurt and I don't have a chronic cough, and I sleep like a baby. 👍

      @SharBanning Před 8 lety +89

      I remember when the Conservatives made a big deal of the sponsorship scandal and that's but a drop in the bucket compared to the laundry list of offenses the Conservatives have done.
      Canadian's were not "brainwashed", we were fed up and needed a change of leadership...so "Anyone but Harper" was the mindset for most. Many people voted strategically to get rid of him.
      I used to work in nuclear power so I'm well aware of how messed up our energy overages are being handled.
      I'm sorry you feel that young voters are ill informed and thus shouldn't be involved in the political process.
      Harper was far from ideal, Harper has done more damage to the core of Canadian ideals than possibly anyone in the history of this nation.
      I'm not worried about my pockets at all. I'm more concerned about our infrastructure, government services, environment, citizens, and how we war instead of peacekeep now.
      Most news these days isn't real news. It takes a lot of effort to find the true heart of some things...but other things, like Harper being a huge POS are plainly obvious for anyone to see.

      +Conor Corrigan - You see shit 'cause you're lookin' up your own ass, son. Lemme clue you in.
      *Textbook right-wing strategy:*
      Get into office *after* a decent left-wing government. Blame every problem on them and undo all policies helping people out of poverty and crime, into health, education and productivity.
      Take credit for the effects of those policies even as they fade because you've cut them off just as they were beginning to show results (some things take time, you see, and fixing a broken country can sometimes even take slightly longer than eight years).
      Call yourself a visionary and tell everyone how much money you "saved". Give tax breaks to your companies, your wealthy friends and yourself.
      Rake in the dollars while you watch the country go to shit. Wait for another left-wing governance period. Bide your time and pop back up to repeat the process.

      +Lexyvil This piece really made me lose respect for him. His views are in general brilliant and to the point. To not know about EI and ridicule it displays his lack of EI. For people not to have intellectual intelligence is more common that people think, those people in general make up for it in EI. It is very unfortunate that people think there is only one type of intelligence. There is in reality at least three; Intellectual, Emotional and practical. Most people have 2 of the 3 and if you have all 3 you are in general more successful than others.
      In the end it is the fault of the full team to make fun of EI. John Oliver projecting to be an intelligent and tolerant person should have known better and done more research for this bit, but then he wouldn't have been able to display his favourite animal, the frowning walrus.
      So, to summarize; I am disappointed in the bit but will keep an open mind as we all have flaws, and seemingly this was one of the "Last week tonight" team's one. Let's hope they in the future do better research so this kind of flawed reporting does not happen again as it will be used against them if there is ever an effort to discredit the team and the messages of the program in general.
