Do all Evercade EXP's have this fault? | Let's FIX it

- I bought this for £40 from off eBay. Sold as faulty but "working". It was supposed to work plugged in... but for some reason it doesn't.
After filming this, I've looked through countless forum posts of people having the same issue. Blaze must have made a big boo-boo with some batches of these systems...
Anyway, let's try and get it working again... I enjoyed this one, and I hope you do too!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

Shabba!
There is an ayn Odin pro on eBay, stick drift on one stick the other not working, would be a good video. UK obviously
M8 you sound awful. Go take cold/flu tablet (lemon and honey) and get to bed.🤣I'm sure the recipient wants your cooties.

Ranks has been controversial for homophobia, particularly violent attitudes towards homosexuals. The 1990 song "Wicked in Bed" includes lyrics about shooting gay men.[14]
In 1992, during an appearance on Channel 4 music show The Word, he was asked to give his thoughts on the subject of the hit song, "Boom Bye Bye", by Buju Banton. Shabba held a copy of a Bible which he carried with him and stated that the "word of God" advocated the "crucifixion of homosexuals".
shabba!... shabba!!!
I think we should start a petition to get Steve a cameo in the next James Bond film. Whilst Bond talks to Q we see Steve in the background, blowing a capacitor off a board and then hunting around on the floor for it, whilst Q says, 'we've got our best man working on it'. 😂
The days of good campy Bond films are over, my friend. All that's left in Hollywood these days is woke garbage.
@@Drebin2293You would have hated the 80s, countless movies with Black and female leads. Look at Aliens. Female lead and a female Marine who was stronger than all the men, would have blown your mind.
@@Dreadpirateflappy Uh huh. Sure. You do know that's not what modern wokeness is about, right?
@@Drebin2293First, woke is a term that means "aware of social injustices prevalent in a society". Second, yes, yes it is. The current poor state of movies has nothing to do with the diversity movement. It's to do with shovelware. Just movies being made to bring in money with no real regard for the audience or quality writing. "Wokeness" didn't cause that. Corporate greed did.
Come on out from under your irrational anger rock and get with the times friend.
@@MrNaesme No, just like Assault Rifle, that definition has shifted.
@ 8:02 - no, I won't call you an idiot - but popping the connector pins out of the connector and reversing then would have been a LOT quicker and easier, plus the colours remain correct! I use the tip of a No. 10 scalpel blade to push in the little spring-retainers in the connector housing, then gently pull the wire out. There's even a tool to do this if you are feeling a bit flush! The scalpel is easier and cheaper.
A few years ago I repented to God then Prayed for help, "I was until then an Atheist."
I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in Perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed.", and what I felt from Jesus when I Held him was unlike Anything I've Ever felt before - A Lifetime of Love Every Second - It brought me to Sobbing and it changed my life, Forever.
I've had Many experiences since, "Several witnessed".
A voice Spoke Clearly into my ear, "Go Visit Your Father Today.", hours before he passed. When I prayed if I could leave this world my body spoke a word Without My Permission I Never Heard Before, "Malarkey". Hours before a major surgery a Bright orb of light Passed across my face.
God and Jesus ARE real! Truly Love God & Everyone!
I believe Prayer, Following God's laws & Love is the answer, and through that, Truly becoming Humble, Merciful, Welcoming, Giving, Gentle, Respectful, Compassionate, Patient, Kind and Forgiving, To Everyone.

I've been obsessed with these oldschool gaming console fix videos. It's helped me take my mind off of what's happening in this world. Thanks for the kind content if it's ever read.
Google JST connector
I was thinking he should sand/file down the connector so it fits both ways, then hot glue it in place if he wants it in there permanently...
Steve Your content is brilliant! You're a naturally funny guy, you don't take yourself too seriously or pretend you're the best at fixing stuff even tho your skill set is very high. Keep the videos coming!
Your meter has a long beep when you try checking for continuity with voltage present. Continuity should only be used on deenergised circuits. 😊
Yep! I tried screaming to the screen "UNSOLDER THE BATTERY FIRST!!" but Steve wouldn't listen..😅
Remember, he is below average on his work his soldiering is shocking.
@@castleladpaza76can you do better? Let's see your successful CZcams channel.
@@temporaryscars You don't have to have better skills or a successful CZcams channel to critique his work.
@@sams.4197you do if you want anyone to take your critique seriously. Otherwise, what the hell do you know about it? This shit isn't easy. Steve is better than the previous commenter is making him out to be.
You can get an idea of what component values you need, by looking at the data sheets for the various chips as these always come with a reference design.
Regardless of everything that happens, your pure joy at "the fix" is worth every minute of viewing.
You’re a braver man than I Steve, lithium batteries terrify me, I’d have just replaced it,
Sadly, the battery in that exact size is pretty much unobtanium. This is the number off the battery: SL805154 which translates to 8.0mm x 51mm x 54mm dimensions. Likely Evercade had these battery pouches custom made to fit their use case. The closest I could find is a 804040 which will fit, but is obviously smaller than the original, so you'll be missing some battery life compared to the original.
Started off watching repairs mainly due to fluking across my mate Vince in his early vids were he messed up more than succeeded.
That said it was nice to see him improving as time went on but as he went more to his car repair and such (which isn't my thing) I found your channel and a few other repair based ones.
Anyway to get to the point I think your my favourite fix it channel at the present time and I kind of hope Vince brings back the repair competition he's had a few times and includes you in it.
You just did a 3rd Doctor thing "Reverse the polarity" 😂
Watching you takes me back, I started working as a electronic technician 1981. Putting things back together to soon was common for me.😂
To me.... This video was Amazing! Keep up the Great work!
I ran to my turned-on-once Evercade in a panic as this video started, and finished it while happily (and luckily) playing Moon Patrol.
The size of the stuff you’re working with is insane. When you showed the size of the capacitor I was shocked. Great job!
Please release a t-shirt or hoodie with that brilliant catchphrase "don't copy me, I'm an idiot" 😂
23:25 I always think "No! It's powered on!" when I see this. OK, I get it. I'm old.
Hello !! i have the same game console and the same problem , it's commun issue , now i know what's the problem because of you !
THANKS !!!!
Now i'm just going to find an other battery for my game console , because i'm not so good to soldering little pieces , i solder many electonics on guitar but not tiny elements and i'm not electronician .
this vidéo help me so much and probably help many people !
Thank you for the video.
Take Care !
Hey Steve, you can usually use a higher value cap, think of it like a glass of water. The only thing to really worry about with caps is using a lower voltage cap on a higher voltage.
He knows.
Looks like the 8205A chip is cracked if you look careful around 11:45 in the video.
It does
Good eye! It's definately cracked between the 8 and the 2
You people have far better eyes than me! I still can't see a crack even though I now know exactly where to look!! (And I went to Specsavers!)
@@philgallagher1 It's easier to see with the video set to 4k
Steve , love the channel, and the fact you have a high success rate with repairs and no formal training . I have had some training but like you prefer to just jumped right in and let's see what we can. One suggestion. when you scan boards under your scope please slow down I'm goin crosseyed trying to follow along. Thanks
He doesn't scan that fast really, he just speeds up the video! (LOL!)
PS I know you know this!
Steve I lost it around @12:10. I love the animations and soundfx you edit in when you are thinking on camera. 🤣
So glad you didn’t say 'stupid game' to Galaxian…… My all time fav game from 1983…! I have special skills, I would’ve found you…!
The sampling in the teardown music… 😂 love it!!
You are getting genuinely good at this.
Outstanding troubleshooting. Great video.
Nicely done Steve!
Keep on putting it fully back together! We love it. 💥💥🔥🔥🔥 Nice one Steve, most entertaining tech guy on CZcams.
Nice job Steve.
You are brilliant, and your vids are bloody excellent! I hope you are feeling better, my good sir. Cheers from Sweden!
Love your videos dude!!!!! Keep them coming!!
It is incredibly easy to swap the terminals with a little practice. It only needs a sharp pointy object to pry the plastic tab and the terminal will back out. You can use a safety pin, or any other kind of pin. But a utility knife blade or point on some tweezers also works.
The benefit is that you keep the correct wire colors, and it's much quicker to do, no soldering.
Removing that capacitor while battery still connected to the BMS is "Deadly"...!😁
I got a cold too .Feel for you bro Great vid again
Get in there !!!!! Nice work Steve ! Once again your keen intellect has brought you to the right conclusion! Well done sir 👍
Hey, nice fix! Didn't think you were going to be able to do that one, but it turns out you're smarter than I am. Top job.
"I wonder if it reads a game, it would have been annoying if it didn't" ...made me laugh out loud.
Get in there! I love seeing your subscriber count up during the filming! :)
Brilliant Steve thanks for the upload mate really enjoyed it 😊
The sounds produced by the game at the end of your video gave me the creeps... I remember it from many years ago! Great video - thanks for posting ...
Another great save ,love these videos keep up the great work Steve
Love your videos, love your sense of humour and the honesty when it goes wrong. No bullshit there. Cracking videos.
I've swapped the protection boards on batteries before for a Zune - the cell had failed but I couldn't find a 3-wire replacement in the right size, so got a 2-wire and swapped the original protection board on. Worked fine!
Great watch .i only ever got to take things apart .but never got them back toghter
Well done Steve, patience rewarded again. Keep some of those basic bms boards for spares as they are cheap as chips 😀👍
Get well soon!
Great video and for discover the fix of the Evercade EXP. Very nice👏👏👏👏
Never in my life have I ever put anything back together before fully testing it! 😂 Great channel though 👍
I remember playing Galaxian in the arcade when I was a kid, yes, I am that old lol.
Good game, but I always preferred Phoenix.....
awesome! I like how it seems to be something different everytime and still is (mostly) fixable. :)
I cheered when you succeeded!
Another stunning victory
StezStix'll make ya JUMP JUMP!
This looked like hard work with a cold! Hope you're better now
First time watching your videos and I subscribed right after I heard the rap at the beginning. You definitely deserve more than 142k subs man. Your videos are funny.
Go on Steve!
Making Saturdays better 🙌🤘
Dang! That Shabba Ranks was a deep reference. Nicely done, Steve!
Good vid'. Helped with learning a bit about batteries.
For the charge control board swap from one battery to another, as long as the batteries have the same voltage rating, it should be fine to swap them. For 8:10 I have always found it faster to just change the pins around in the plug of that type of battery. Ya just use your tweezers to lightly push up the plastic holding the pins in and the pins pop out easily. the swap them around, they'll snap right back in, and ready to go!
I love the Ebay "truths"..."Only used it once, but now it only works off of the charger". Then you return it under warranty. Not flog it for a loss on fleabay.
8:06 ahh the ‘Vincenzo clause’ ❤
you are getting the hang of it my friend..
Always check your polarity and remember you got to "Reverse the polarity" it fixes everything, or so the Doctor told me :P
The struggle for words was very enjoyable
Love the little DJ Luck and MC Neat reference ;) we must literally be within a year or 2 of each other lol.
Soon as the music came on I new the game .... decades since I played it !
Come on! Great fix. And great cold too.
A LiPo below 3,2 Volt is often damaged beyond repair. Usually the protection curcuits dont even try to charge them to avoid overheating.
Such a good backing track!
Great video!
The shabba cover at the end 🤣
You have skills! Those components are so small!
always check polarity and NEVER pull plugs out by their leads !!! Steve. One day a lead will come out and short the battery !!!!
I enjoy your video's, very entertaining.
Videos. Why’d you put an apostrophe there? Illiterate fool.
16:9 screen for retro games... very nice, you can enjoy streched games in high resolution! Galaxian EXPanded!
Soldering on battery terminals is a bad idea generally. They cant handle the heat, and once those cells are compromised they cannot recover. There's a reason most battery terminals and BMS are spot welded together. Nanoseconds of heat is way safer than 350c for a few seconds.
Nice
You need to make a t-shirt with "Get in there!" on it😆
7:47 So every time someone on Star Trek said they "need to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow" it just meant that they'd plugged it in the wrong way round.
4:46
Everybody: Jump Jump!
Steve is gonna: Jump Jump!
Go on then- have a Jump!
Steve missed the opportunity to use Van Halen’s Jump in the outro... next time 😀
I love you man! Your smart, entertaining and just wholesome to watch!
Don’t work on the battery protection boards without first disconnecting the cells! I was half expecting flames and explosions when you flooded the pins with the low melt solder 😂
Get in there!!
11:44 the 8205A chip has a crack in it
yeah! Steve the magician does it again.
Love your video's Steve, entertaining and I really love your common sense style to diagnosing these problems. Just gotta bug you, what is a Bat-tree? lol
Great Steve! I did the same couple of weeks ago, replaced the BMS and I worked great!
Did you perhaps read some info on Reddit where I posted some info/photos? Have to watch the end, but guess you will replace the BMS😊
My mate gave me his faulty one which has a similar issue. Works fine with a different battery connected, or on USB power. Screen flashes and does nothing in the original battery.
Couldn't find a replacement battery the same size, only smaller is physical size and capacity.
Will be taking a look at the management board. Cheers
Dude! You are SOOOOOOOOOO lucky putting that battery in the wrong way around didn't fry anything. I got a battery and plugged it into my Adafruit Powerboost 500 and it made the magic smoke. Whoops.
Brilliant video and funny
Nice sample work in the patreon song
Fun fact (for me at least) - I actually have my name in the credits because I was one of the buyers when the first shipment of these units got stolen before delivery.
As ever.. a great video
My favorite thing about this channel is how many things I get to copy.
Nice stevoooo👍🏻
Using the low melt solder to short everything out on the battery management board scared the crap out of me!!
Trick with low melt, use the iron at lower temp, it won't blob up as much, and have more control.
Glad you're a dub fx guy cool 😎
J adore vos vidéos; Bravo
I am getting as bad as you Steve when it works after your magic you do l am Shouting at the screen get in there 😂 well done please keep your videos coming love them can l make a suggestion do you remember that clock radio and you put Bluetooth in was it a Alexa l think that was a great idea can you do something like that again 😊
