It’s been working great for me. I connect BT speakers to my 2  TVs and play the same song, playlist, artist, or album on both to listen throughout the house. There’s a bit of lag between the 2 depending on the distance between the speaker and the  TV but otherwise is awesome for parties

I just set up a mini PC with itunes and spotify with a tool calles „TuneBlade“ to broadcast to all my airplay devices. So as sad it is that no AirPort will ever receive an upgrade to Airplay 2, this is the best workaround I could find to get a kind of multiroom experience with AirPlay 1.

Great explanation. I have a question: I just bought the new Alexa 55 in TV with an integrated fire TV. I’m trying to see if there’s a way other than hooking up a new Sonos sound bar to it to use the airplay2 feature on the TV to connect to my Sonos system so I can run it through my backyard Sonos amp/speakers and the rest of my Sonos speakers with the TV audio. This For example would be when you’re watching sporting event on the TV and you want the audio to play on Sonos

Every review that I’ve seen showing the HomePods in pairs have them sitting left and right from each other. I wanted to set them up one in front by the tv and the other closer to the sofa. Would they have an effect on the sound quality if they were not on the same table?

What do you think to the HomePod ? I have a Zipp Classic and am considering the Zipp 2 (119.00) or HomePod (279.00)

Great overview. I have a question on airplay 2. I just bought the Alexa 55 inch integrated fire TV. I am trying to get the audio to play through my Sonos speakers without using a Sonos sound bar. Can this be done via airplay 2 through FireTV? I have a Sonos amp that’s AirPlay enabled with outdoor speakers that I want to connect to. Thanks again.

Can you use a Mac Mini or other Mac as Airplay-2 source? So that I can play to multiple speakers/Apple TV using the Mac computer?

Thanks for this extremely helpful summary. I can’t get my Apple TV 4K
(through my receiver speakers) and my HomePod to AirPlay 2 without a significant lag. Very frustrating.

Phillip James unfortunately I think airplay works through wifi only... maybe you can get a router-extender for your office!

Is it useful for watching video? as in is there any lag between audio and video? I would love to use a stereo pair with my Apple TV for surround sound

I believe it works lag free as long as it's a newer Apple TV. People have been reporting phenomenal results with two HomePods.

I’m not buying over two thousand dollars worth of airplay speakers to do what I can already do from my Mac and controlling it via apple Remote app. This needs to be backward compatible. I get it that speakers drop but I was dumb enough to fall for buying two houses worth of speakers once. I’m not sure I need to fall for it again. Is WiFi audio better? Yeah, but I would rather wait till a bigger leap in technology than this for my next upgrade.
