  • Carlo Ancelotti’s second stint in charge of Real Madrid has been a hugely successful one. The Italian coach led Los Blancos to an unlikely 14th Champions League, got his hands on La Liga too - something he didn’t manage the first time - and also added an additional UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup to the club’s trophy cabinet.
But while victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final has eased fears of a trophyless second season, their arch rivals’ title procession in La Liga and Real’s own inconsistent form has left them closer to fifth-place Villarreal in terms of points, and inevitably Ancelotti’s future has been called into question. And even if he stays this summer, it feels likely he will leave the club at the end of his contract in 2024, with an offer to manage Brazil reportedly on the table. But who should succeed him at the Bernabeu? On today’s EFD Explained, we’re going to assess three potential candidates.

I think that it would just be something special if we saw Real and Barca managed by Xabi Alonso and Xavi at the same time. Just another level to the continuation of the previous generation's rivalry.

@Dr Bills they literally took Leipzigs manager one of their league rivals btw, binned him and had Tuchel lined up? But thats a mess, good lord I dont disagree that Nagelsmann should have been sacked btw he should have been able to make his imprint on the team instead of being strong armed into doing what the hierarchy says, they did the same to Pep about his style of football, difference is Pep is Pep and was given that time cos he got trophies. @@BenBen-yx6ug Exactly. This Madrid team is not a star studded team. If you look at the core of the team that won the UCL last year, it's made up of great players who are famously selfless and hard working (Benzema, Modric and Kroos) and probably won't even be there in 2 years, and a lot of young talents who are still developing but have adapted very well to the club's culture (Vini Jr, Valverde, Camavinga, Rodrygo). I think it's a squad Klopp can definitely work with. I believe it would be good for him, a new challenge, a new league with a different style of play, and a new life in sunny Spain. Madrid fans have always liked Klopp, since he was back at Dortmund. He's constantly been a favourite in the polls to take over Madrid for years. I'd take him over Nagelsmann any day.
