Runas was one of the quest chains I most remembered from that expansion. I was genuinely sad that I could not save him, but glad that he got to redeem himself before all was lost.
Quests of that sort almost always end terribly, so it was nice to have one end on a tragic but uplifting note. That he’s dealing with addiction just made it strike home so much more as I imagine most people can think of someone who has gone through it, so I’m glad they went with that outcome.
I wasn't particularly impressed with the rest of Legion's story (no, not even Suramar) but this one bit was a diamond in the rough.

The VA drove it home. He did a very good job. They should have kept the character just because of the VA

@@spaceowl9246 The VA is Jim Cummings and he does in fact voice other WoW characters, most notably Lorewalker Cho. He's also the voice of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and a ton more. :)
some of those runas clips are used. the "My touch actually hurts" and the "every last drop of energy out of your corpse" lines are used when you click him alot
Maybe a dev intented to make a Goldshire District and once the other devs got wind of it they pulled the plug and called it Warrior District as a cover up.
Rommath was supposed to be a traitor *WITH* Benedictus. You can find the same dialog but with Varian accusing Benedictus. I think it could be an early Cata quest to discover a spy in the 2 factions because, while it's hard to find the Varian counterpart, I very clearly remember (while watching Totalbiscuit and Jesse Cox Cata beta testing at the time) seeing a video with those voice files. So it was early Cata.
Yes this is correct, I made a small mistake with what I said in the video.
Then they just changed them to being Sauranok the mystic and Major Samuelson instead for horde and alliance respectively.

I loved the Runas quest chain, because it didn't end in such a cliche manner. Wow is far too prone to telegraphing betrayals falling just short of naming a mustache twirling character, Yugdab.

When I was leveling my first character, (I joined at the beginning of BfA) a Blood Elf Rogue, I remember levelling through Hillsbrad Foothills and coming across Orkus. For those who don't remember or maybe haven't levelled through the zone as Horde, Orkus is an NPC you first meet in the Welcome to the Machine quest, the quest where you BECOME the quest giver. He seems like a strange or arrogant person at first but as you level with him later in the zone you slowly get a little attached to him, and for good reason. Orkus sacrifices himself so you can get important Alliance plans in the quest Heroes of the Horde! but before he dies his dragon, named Kasha, comes back for him and his dying speech is a punch in the gut and it goes as follows
"K... Kasha... you... came back for me...
You are the best friend Orkus ever had, **Orkus coughs**
I... I never knew anyone like you. You saved me, . More than once. I... I know it's selfish, but I have something to ask of you.
Please take care of Kasha. Make sure she finds a cold place to live.
Somewhere safe..."
*_Kingslayer Orkus dies. Kasha later lands at Tarren Mill with you and Orkus' lifeless body._*
This questline is one of the only ones I almost cried, along with Runas, I know they're not real characters but... rest in peace you two.
Agreed! Orkus and Runas are two of my favorite characters in all of WoW history due to their quest chains.
incase you didnt know you can see him in the Horde Town in Hillsbrad hes riding kasha i think. You can see him when you're dead
I'm glad Rommath's unused voice files was removed. I don't want to see him become a traitor and be killed. He's such a great character
I'm also not a fan of this or the "long knives" line which seems to be a refrence to the "night of long knives"

The dude hit it out of the park as Lorewalker Cho, no wonder they brought him back on for Runas. They probably haven't been as in-your-face about any future roles he might've had since Legion because shortly after Legion hit shelves there was a big controversy about his treatment of his pet dog.
I can totally imagine writers saying “f it; have him say both because I just want to hear how he sells it.” What a legend.
As someone who struggled with addiction at the time I was really happy with the way that was portrayed.

Turtle WoW, a private Vanilla + server, is adding Gillijim's Isle to its next content patch on December 27, as well as new zones and unique dungeons (like Karazhan Crypts!)! It already features a whole host of things Blizzard left out of Vanilla WoW, like Tauren Plainsrunning, and you can play as Vanilla Goblins and High Elves. You should have mentioned the Cataclysm heirloom rings. In the game files from Cataclysm, there were four heirloom rings based on old rings: Ornate Band of Accuria for agility classes, Antique Myrmidon's Signet for strength-based DPS, Gleaming Seal of the Archmagus for casters (duh) and Burnished Dark Iron Ring for tanks. None of them made it into the game and we only had one heirloom ring until Warlords of Draenor.

A quick correction to your topic on realm first titles. They were actually released on live and we did earn the titles. I got warbringer for my warrior on arthas pvp. It was that after the first weekly reset is when they removed it. But I have some good memories of earning that title it was an extremely hard fight of me soloing against an entire guild who harassed me as well as hundreds of horde who were paid to try and kill me in PVP conflict.
Hey new sub in the community, but cant stop bingeing your content. I used to play WoW as a child getting into it right as burning crusade came out and stopped playing when mists was announced. However i never had been very dedicated to the game. Got back into it maybe a week ago and am totally hooked, but I'd like to know more about the various holidays since it currently is the lunar festival. I wanna keep leveling, but also don't wanna miss out on the content the holiday events offer. Anyway you got some awesome content and I'd love to see some stuff about in game events of the past and present.
The neurbian model was for a wall climbing mount that was planned someone else covered it in a video I don't remember who though

They did plan to make also a Neruber Raid (in one of the inis is still the gate to it) but because of time they sadly had to cancel it. Like for the water Raid by Vash'ir, where the players had to safe Neptulon from the kraken that should control him... But that was given up because they give Cataclysm up after the to early start because the players were to impatient...
Some of those Rumas lines were in the game as the ones he says when he gets annoyed by being clicked on too many times.
I had the realm first for Fishing when Wrath came out. Best accomplishment of my life so far.
I was chasing the first level 70 death knight on EU-Thunderhorn, dunno how the person who got it did it as I was cranking that DK like mad, had to console myself enjoying the DK goodness in Alterac Valley instead doing the chains of ice/Death Grip mischief with slow motion players all over the place, it was epic as some poor Horde priest was absolutely death gripped to buggery by us lot and like small children we were insanely hooked on it and ignored actually capturing stuff lol
My favorite is the unused troll female hair... It was a ponytail, and there were long bangs at the front which covered the left eye. At the time of cataclysm it was still accessable fromt he wow model viewer.

6:29 I once convinced someone that an item called Bastard Sword of the Donkey existed in the game and only dropped in a cave filled with troggs. He may still be trying to farm it to this day.

Mine favourite things were Siege Machines which were planned for WoW Vanilla. First version of the WoW Vanilla box had manual which were even explaining how siege machines were supposed to work. But later box version of WoW with updated cd (a.k.a. no need to spend 12-30 hours downloading after you have opened the box) had altered manuals with no mention of siege machines.
Funnily enough we needed second big expansion (WOTLK) to finally hav seieg machnies on Battlegreounds.

I am more than surprised you didn't focus on the undercroft of Karazhan, a huge playzone that only bits ended up in the heroic dungeon and other bits ended up in rather poorly graphic'd quest areas outside the castle but oh so much that was lost... The mechanic of the tunnel to the pit at the bottom was awesome, that it reduced your health to 1 and then the idea was you had to with your friends in the proposed raid encounter have to manically heal everyone as undead swarmed with no threat tables so dps, healers were easy pickings. The underground cavern of the small questing area outside where the bodies are chained underwater was part of the original "second raid" area proposed.
Oh and there was an area on the Menethil Harbour side of Ironforge mountain that never got used, got told off by a GM for sneaking down there, those little portals were to an under area of Ironforge that never got used and way below that of the heart of Ironforge. Once upon a time being found by a GM in Ironforge airport was a warning but we still did it or sat above the gate of Ironforge with tons of whispers asking how we got up there, I think GM's set a watch note on the airport to see if any players popped up, they were the same with Karazhan's under area as you had to hack the now lost gate with a mage's help to get through to it. Shame they didn't have the same zeal when Horde were wall hacking battlegrounds so by the time the gates opened for the Alliance they were already capturing stables, blacksmith and mine.
@@dodgydruid That's crazy. I've talked too many GMs while exploring areas that weren't suppose to be gotten too. I was never told off, I usually asked if they could remove me from the area when I got stuck. This was back in 2004-2006.

Blizzard: well, you know you downloaded 80gigs but in reality 50gigs are just dead and testing projects

I miss server first titles. I would never get one, but it was a neat idea.
Side-story: Server First Achievements were how a guild was caught cheating back in Wrath of the Lich King. The short version of this story was that the Guild Master had been hacked and a GM provided a Martin's Fury to them by mistake when restoring their account. They used the item to rapidly progress through raids like Ulduar and they obtained World First Achievements for downing raid bosses. They were caught because the community became very suspicious of this guild's insane progress.
Side Story 2: The Vanilla WoW Manual also made mention of Tauren getting a racial that would allow them to act as their own mount. This ability never made it into the live version of the game.
I remember finding those gloves and giving them to our grandmaster dps warrior, he was skeptical but then did mc and he said yea your right they're the best.
Those unique realm first titles for worlk would have been sick though... Right?

Even though they removed the titles, I remember early on during that expansion, whenever anyone did achieve one of those listed server firsts it would ping on everyone's screen... I remember it bumming me out because I thought I was going at a decent pace, and then towards the end of questing in Howling Fjord all the pings and pop-ups in chat started appearing.
I only watch these vids so I can be told I’m one of the 29% subscribed.
Rommath being a Twilight cultist would make sense IF one of the Old Gods had been whispering to him about how they could save his people. Maybe that's the way they had planned on going? Maybe that's where they got the idea for a certain Kul Tiras character plot later on...

i think the unused rommath voice lines were for a dungeon boss or a different quest line entirely. one where, rather than the naga stealing the tide stone after you get it from the magic academy, rommath would be with you and lead to him betraying you for the mana crystals of the pools. this would probably be for a dungeon, but there was no good place for it, so it might have been scrapped because it would break the "lead up to a dungeon" trend for legion zones.

In BC, after raids we would run a couple 5v5 matches, all decked out in full "of the Whale" greens and our team was WePvPinGreens. All I wanted was that 2H stat stick axe for my hunter lol, but we had fun.

I was able to get the server first level 80 Human when I played. I didn't know a title was supposed to come with it. Still one of the coolest moments of my wow time. Getting HUNDREDS of messages in a matter of seconds because it spammed the entire server. I missed getting realm first rogue by 17 minutes too. kinda. bummer there.
I'm kinda disappointed there were no mentions of any of the armor and/or weapons that were modeled but never added (at least for players).
I remembered Runas so well because his voice actor Jim Cummings also voiced Festus Krex from Skyrim.
Regarding Defense of the Alehouse, while it's not WoW, FFXIV actually did try something similar with it's "Rival Wings" pvp stuff(moba-style battleground for pvp in an mmo) and... it's pretty fun! :D
Would've been interesting to see what a WoW take on the concept would've been like.

I was the server first Grand Master Scribe on my server which I was super hype about but I hadn't realized they took away the title aspect of it till after I got it.
Rommath being a traitor would be weird in other ways too, Alliance goes through the dungeon with Thrall, the live version has the Horde do that as well. But then that version would have had the Horde go with Lor'themar? Having Alliance go with a different Horde character than the Horde is weird on it's own, especially one who had not been part of the story of the expansion up until this point. Or would have had Lor'themar come out of no where, after traveling all the way to Dragonblight, how would he know to go there? Something in the documents he found? But then the proof is finding Rommath enacting these Twilight Hammer plans, not his handwriting matching. It is likely with all this that Rommath's reveal was not going to be in that dungeon, unless they were not going to allow Horde players to do the dungeon where Benedictus is revealed to be a traitor (No way are they going to do that.) then somehow Blizzard would have had to make a way for Alliance players to be involved with what was likely a quest chain that takes them into Silvermoon. It's a whole mess, good call on steering clear of that one Blizzard.
'pre-established lore'... yeah Blizzard dont give no shits about _that_ anymore. they will hammer a square peg in to a round hole for a cool trailer moment.
These unused titles are SICK, I wish they were in game!
Seems like a waste when it's only one per person, per server.
A couple were reused for miscellaneous things, like Warbringer is for 300 Horde RBGs, Archmage is for the Legion Class Hall, and of Gnomeregan was one that made it to the Argent Tournament, but yeah. They scrapped all the good ones :(

Seeing "mauradon" in the game files tells me even the WoW dev team didn't get Maraudon's name right, like a lot of players
Exclusive Titles sound great.
In fairness, the title thing happened in part because at the time there was a huge controversy about certain famous/infamous players allegedly account-sharing to maintain a nearly 24-hour leveling cycle at peak efficiency (i.e. without making common mistakes one would expect someone to make while badly sleep-deprived and rushing through the leveling content to hit cap first).
Pretty sure the turtle corpses on the beach there were a tease of Pandaren/MoP, all the way back in Vanilla.

So glad Lor themar had a voice change. Gideon Emery does a fantastic job.
I think server 1st achievements should come back. It doesn't matter about the story line of stones going for that because it's a very sought after achievement. In honor sudden character they're going slow down and go through the storyline anyways. It's like stead of dune your 1st character would the storyline you do the 2nd character. And most alts people skip the story lines and just power through the levels anyway. Is just doing in reverse.

Well it's the year of the mouse in china, so...
all of this content sucks. one of them is a worse version of one of the best questlines in legion, two of them are battlegrounds, and two of them are *item and model names*. why would you want this in the game????
What item in this list do you think would be appropriate to add to the game at this point in time? You act as if there's just game-ready content they are withholding because they are greedy.
I'm still waiting for the Azol Nerub (sp?) zone that the two dungeons in WotLK were built around. It was supposed to be a huge underground zone beneath Northrend, but they scrapped it because they thought it was too much content.

On a russian private server they use the "DOTA" map as a PvP zone where noone can attack randomly from the other faction, and only those can attack each other who are dueling
Nerubian beast was almost certainly just part of the cut zone of Azjol Nerub.
