There are basically 2 types of posts on r/AITA:
    1. "What I did wasn't terrible at all, but I still feel kind of guilty for what I've done, so I just want to make sure that what I did was ok."
    2. "What I did was absolutely terrible, I don't feel guilty at all, I just want to trick people into thinking what I did was ok."

The guy whose wife kept calling him a fatty is totally nta. No, you shouldn't shame your postpartum wife for not losing their baby weight right away but if that postpartum wife is also being a giant bully and throwing out insults that she knows come with a lot of trauma for you, she loses the right to be protected from insults herself. It's pretty simple: if you can't take it, don't dish it out.

You can diet, you walk around, etc very easy to lose some of the weight without killing yourself. My mom had 3 kids and was a runner. As a woman that is 4 months postpartum, I cannot imagine verbally abusing the father of my children for gaining weight along with me. Taking care of an infant is stressful and the combo of that stress, hormone changes for both partners, and surviving off barely any sleep, you eat what you can and when you can. Why would you bully someone you claim to love?
Dude is NTA and should talk to a lawyer about securing his parental rights if she won’t work on changing her behavior. If she is verbally abusing him, what will stop her from aiming her toxicity at her children? I know my father went from my mom to us kids.

What I think people aren't understanding about the first story is that the father didn't just suddenly institute the rules after finding out that his son was gay - he changed them to apply to males when he found out. He wasn't pretending his son wasn't gay, he blieved his son when he lied to him. And why are you all thinking that just because his son and his friend aren't in a relationship that they aren't having sex? I guarantee they have sex. The first time they were caught together kissing, they called it experimentation. How much more experimentation have the done.

as a male victim of domestic abuse, hetero relationship, constantly physically and mentally abused my son. the law took her side. She literally chipped the caps off of my son's teeth with a knife when he was five(We had divorced by this stage), CPS did NOTHING to her and said I still had to allow visitation. She became 10,000.00 in arrears in child support at 30.00 A week, and the CPS did nothing. She was also an alcoholic, which I don't think anyone gets a pass for. This is what a real situation of a miscarriage of justice for domestic abuse looks like. If you are in a abusive relationship, get out, you will feel better immediately and you can start rebuilding your life sooner.

On the first one, okay, she was taking him at face value with his insistence he WASN'T gay. She was trusting him that he was telling the truth there, and when he changed things up by admitting it, her rules were exactly the same, just modified for his updated information. That happens in one's adult life too. You say one thing and have standards impressed upon you, then update with new and game-changing information, standards will change for you. It sucks how he had to come out, in defense of himself, but he has an accepting and loving parent and needs to feel fortunate that she's not banning boys, including his best friend, or even worse. (I'm assuming this is mom, but I suppose it could be dad, too.) By her own admission, this was the standard while he insisted he was straight, so it's not like he's being clapped with new, harsher rules.

She wasn't engaging in a "charade" that her son wasn't gay; she wasn't making assumptions that he was, and didn't enforce intimacy rules until such a time as her son clearly said that he was, in fact, gay.
Now, whether or not he was intimate with his childhood friend is another matter. Maybe he is just a close friend, but if they both follow the rules then theyll prove that, and the rules get relaxed.
So as a parent, no she isn't being an a-hole.
    19:17
    Married 25+ years here:
Do NOT ever use your intimate knowledge of your partner against them. That goes DOUBLE for what they're sensitive about, especially because of childhood issues. It's also super disrespectful to your spouse to insult their appearance. If their weight gain is becoming an issue, there are sensitive and caring ways to address it. I've put on a lot of weight over the years (went from a size 8 to an 18) and i am currently on what we laughingly call a "slim-slow" plan, which basically means changing bad eating & other health habits with healthy ones. It's working, slowly, but this way I'm less likely to gain the weight back (which is kinda how I've gained so much; I'd lose a lot then gain it all back plus more). My hubby has been nothing but supportive with this. Even when we're fighting, he has NEVER called me fat or disparaged my appearance. And vice versa.

I had my son while i was in the military and my husband (also military) was stationed 2k miles away. I took care of the wee baby by myself AND got back in shape for my PT (fitness) test which was 6 months after my waiver was up (had my kid in may, off the waiver 1month after birth, PT test in January). Dude who called out his wife for being a jerk is NTA. People use "i had a baby" as an excuse for a lot of asinine things and rarely is there an actual condition that is genuinely stopping someone. its okay to want to take it easy after having a kid. But if youre going to be a jerk to your husband, then yeah; you deserve it turned around back on you.

I agree with you 100%. For the period products, I had a similar experience with my ex-husband (we were divorced by our 26 yrs old 😆). He felt so threatened in his (non) masculinity & absence of manhood that not only he wouldn't pick up anything like that for me, he wouldn't hold my purse in public. He also stopped going to fetch me cigarettes or alcohol at places they didn't know him because they would systematically ask for his ID. At 25 he was still looking like a teenager, as if not fully developed yet and he really resented that. Thing is it's not necessarily his looks, it's his overall attitude towards this that still to this day (I am 37 now) makes me see him as a boy and not a man at all. My dad & my step-dad used to call me the "couple's strong man". This story doesn't end there, but for now, yes. I got a strong hard working real man that I'm gonna cook dinner for and I am happy to do so since he doesn't mind at all holding my purse or buying feminine hygiene products for me ;)

I agreed with all of your opinions on them as well. Am a girl so to answer your question about equality for those two separate posts - BOTH of those women & their support systems are completely the AH. Hitting isn't ever okay unless it's completely consensual, which this obviously wasn't. Hopefully he gets out of there. For new mom being verbally abusive - she's an AH too. Ik pregnancy & postpartum really mess with you but that's not an excuse to be verbally & emotionally abusive. Furthermore her running off crying felt manipulative AF. Genuinely hope they can work through it & be happy but wtf with those people.

As a woman, for story number two, I just have one thing to say.... DIVORCE!
I don't know what happened or why, but I don't think hitting with force and intention is a sign of a respectful partner, good thing he didn't tolerated that and kept his distance.
Hitting a man is not feminist, that was unnecessary violence and that is what violent people who have no respect for others do, period.
Also... you mean to tell me this a-holes are out there being in relationships? No wonder our society is messed up.

Can confirm, after my wife gave birth to our daughter, I had to go to the chemist to get her a fair few things. I was extremely out of my depth, thankfully a nice older lady saw my confusion and offered to help me. I told her I had just become a father and what I was looking for, we chatted, she was so excited for me. I got everything we needed and was back to my family before I knew it. Would I do this for a girl I just started dating? Probably not, but a serious partner/wife, of course...marriage is a team sport!

To play Devil’s Advocate on the last story:
When a woman is pregnant and post partum, there is a lot of body dysmorphia that is very common that is hard to explain. You might not feel it constantly, but a women’s body is permanently changed from having a baby. Some women bounce back and they hardly look different, others struggle a lot more to have a sense of normalcy, even with hard work such as strict diet and exercise.
He hasn’t specified whether she was struggling with dysmorphia, but just because she hadn’t in the past, doesn’t mean she wasn’t struggling postpartum. His comeback could cause a lot of unintended damage l.
She has no excuse to be calling him fatty and teasing him about his weight, whether or not he had trauma, but ESPECIALLY if he had trauma. A retaliation does not make you an asshole.

@@jurassicthunderi have never had kids but your organs literally move around and that takes a while and some ppls skin is more prone to bounce back faster than others . Then when you factor in hormones can keep your weight on even with exercise- so many factors go in to it . The women who don’t bounce right back carry so much internal shame to begin with it’s sad ppl can’t understand everyone is different. The baby fat is not caused by too much eating- it’s the pregnancy hormones deciding how much to store of what they are eating which is why some stay slim on pregnancy even though they are over eating vs non pregnant life.

I dont like the idea of a marriage (also an atheist, and he wanted a church wedding), and i cant see the point of them. They strike me as an absolute waste of money and a cause of a huge amount of stress. At best you get some tax cuts.

On the first post Parents don’t realize how much of a big mistake it is to start restricting your kid and putting more rules up when they tell you something confidential or personal to them. Like if you value having open communication with your kid, them coming to you with their problems and talking to you about things going on in their life you can’t restrict them like this once they tell you. I remember when I was a teenager every time I used to come to my mom with some personal information in my life she would always start restricting me and putting rules up around what I told her. Eventually, I just stop telling her things.

The girl who called her husband fat needed to hear that insult. A lot of women get away with saying mean things but for some reason you can't say mean things back, not even if you're a woman yourself.
Lot of girls need to hear the truth instead of people softening their words for them. Look at the trend of this 'dululu'.
Even my friend tells me to support her delusions instead of being blunt with her. I love her, but if i can't be honest with you because you don't want to hear reality is a issue. Thankfully she doesn't expect really crazy things, but if it got to that point, i would just tell her how it is.

The guy with the wife who is calling him a fatty... knowing his trauma. WoW... She's a real piece of work. She may have said that she doesn't care about her weight in the past but she's a woman... every woman is self-conscious about their weight, so I call BS on that. Also because she actually ran away crying, if she really didn't care - it wouldn't have been an issue and she could have just said, I'll lose it in time. I would know about the whole self-conscious thing... I went through anorexia because of it. So honestly, if that was me - I would've probs said worse to her. Being unhappy with how you look is not a reason to hawk on a man who has put his usual routine on hold, to be a father to his kid.
Hell, because I've gone through what I have, I don't hawk on my sister who knows she needs to lose weight... I don't "remind" her of it... it started with people hawking on me because I was getting a little chunky. So I am not going to be an asshole and do the same to my sister.
