- I was asked to do this video by @davidtrnr1 on Twitter.
I bought this Yamaha with the rusty chain.
Personally I think there is plenty more life left in this chain and sprocket set, so I set to work cleaning them up but then I kinda rushed it as I wanted to go for a ride.
Either way the results were pretty good, not perfect but acceptable.
I just know the comments section is about to light up with a gazillion ways to clean a chain, so I welcome constructive input. Lets teach each other to have outstanding motorcycle chains!
or make your own video and link it in the comments section so we can all see.
You can buy BullDogBDX below (I have not bee paid in any way to promote this product). I met BullDog BDX via Twitter, then used it in a commercial environment, I am really impressed with it.

For Paraffin, just search eBay or Amazon as links go out of date. I but 4L at a time but there are better deals if you buy in bulk
other than that, see you on Twitter. Bye!

Thanks for the tip on that bull dog! Chain was heavy corroded but unrecognisable now!
Nice tip on the BDX application. It does fling- all over the black back wheel of my Thruxton!
I'm here to learn too. Cheers!
These days I just use engine oil on my chain. I soak it in an old flannel and wipe it over the chain. It seems to work well and the chain is easy to clean.
I agree, oil is better than nothing. Good stuff
Oh...maybe I won't spend £200 just yet! Thanks a lot for the tips
Ace!
Well done bro, looks good
I like a good scrubber
@@MotoTingle youre good at oiling em up
@@kyndrydspyryt3867 I give em a good scrub
@@MotoTingle cant have em all skanky can ya
@@kyndrydspyryt3867 No, they gotta be real tidy. Well presented. Before I nosh in
Paraffin is great stuff for cleaning but be warned not all chains use the same material the make the "O" and "X" rings. D.I.D in last year or two changed the formula of the rings and Paraffin destroys them (and quite quickly I might add).
What’s happening is folk are using aggressive methods such as wire brushes and string cleaners. This has led to an influx of warranty claims. I’m going to continue using paraffin as DID haven’t stated any change of xring formula. Here is what they say www.didchain.com/blogs/news/d-i-d-chain-maintenance
@@MotoTingle I’m confused that link you’ve put say in big bold letters never to use paraffin, kerosene is a type of paraffin? Great video though ❤
@@thetigerguy2704 I am friendly with them, they want to promote their products instead I guess
I've gave up on aerosol "lubes" and just use gt85 to clean and lube etc.
I did own a scottoiler but it was more hassle than it was worth and meant more bloody cleaning.
@@MattJonesGR9 agreed, I'm not keen on skanky black chains covered in oil
No rust on my one, but I may try to get it a bit shinier...
Excellent!
I don't know why I'm watching this 😂. I guess I wanted to see your wrist action..
Oh, I just remembered that my chain is meant to be gold.
Haha! OMG Get Scrubbing!
Yes, that was some good wrist action!
My chain is minging due to lack of use ☹️ I better get using it again
Steel wool is a good alternative to scotchbrite
@@MotoTingle cool I will try and pick some up 😊
Feel free to come and do mine
I am thinking I might get a few offers a few decliners but hopefully I can learn too
