    Love Roger's focus on fundamentals and the basics of jiu-jitsu. Put yourself in a defensive posture and wait for the opponent to make a mistake, tire out, or simply become frustrated. It's simple, elegant, and something I hope to continue to aspire to on my own BJJ journey.

    I was a student of Shawns back in the old Renzo gym over the methadone clinic. Sucked when he moved to the west coast. I loved his style of teaching. Him and Danaher are the best teachers ive ever encountered. What most people dont know, is Shawn is somewhat of a prodigy. He received his black belt from Renzo in only 4 years!

    I really enjoyed your vid!! great analysis with a friendly, calming voice! This would be my only little point of adding to roger gracies style/ technique and fight overall. He stayed calm all the time, took his time and was patiently waiting for things to happen. In my opnion this makes the better fighter in most of the cases. If you meet somebody at your level and you know you're good, only true warriors keep the abilitys to stay calm and focused! Mostly ppl start to rush then and with rushing there come the mistakes (as i hapenned with buchecha).

      It looks like B is physically stronger than R, also more fierce. It seems that R knows to be disadvantaged, and takes this fight very seriously. And at that point in the video B looks like he exerted himself to the point where he can not "think" clear enough anymore, what with his back to the opponent, and starts "reacting". That's where his fight was lost, exertion. Which is so impressive by R.
      This is like watching, this is weird, I know in my bones that no amount of training would get me there-I'd have to grow up in it too for my training to proceed with the effectiveness that R displays-you kinda get the ancient Greek fascination with heroes and gods. I mean, this is kinda Adonis vs. Hapollo or whatever.

    • @JustSujC
      @JustSujC Před 3 lety +3

      I think it's because Bechacha's style and training is focused on sport jiu-jitsu, which emphasizes aggressive maneuvers to score points. Whereas Roger stuck to the basics and the fundamental principle of jiu-jitsu, which is self-defense first. Both styles are amazing and effective though.

    as bjj has evolved with more complex set-ups and submissions coming from the legs and other places, as well as the fact that in itself the art has become far more advanced..... this should not happen! But somehow Roger stays old-school, keeps his basics on point and he just absolutley crushes. I mean... he purposley pulls guard on Buchecha. I would have loved it if a prime Rickson and Roger would've had an old school no time limit bjj match. The heart says Rickson but the mind says Roger.... but who knows.
