  • 'It was at the wheel where it all came together for me. Tableware became an obsession, I loved the functionality of it, that it would be used and loved.'
In this video, Stuart Carey takes us step-by-step through the processes he uses to throw a thin-walled bowl, which he spray-glazes once it is bisque-fired.
Discover how Stuart makes his work in the full step-by-step masterclass inside CR 299 (September/October 2019). You can order current and back issues of the magazine from ceramicreview.com.

Gosh your thoughts on the human vs clay vessel and your forms (this shape of bowl) are very similar to some of my own. The base is always vital to the end result!
How extraordinary. It's been a long time since making myself, but somehow this remimded me so much of my process I really feel inspired to get back at it! I don't have a space anymore so hopefully somehow I'll make it happen. Thankyou, piece and lovely video.
That tin can recycling is a great idea too! 👌

Your work is so beautiful... I love your pieces!!! And - your voice reminds me to Christopher (Kit) Harrington... you both have the same melody when you 're speaking :)

I just loved everything about this, Clay is such a seductive material and you describe it so well, Stuart.

Another tip for making turning tools. Using an old tape measure blade and the rewind spring inside the tape measure make a sharp tool
