- CHEDDAR GORGE a colossal slash carved through the Mendip Hills by prehistoric rivers, is a landscape that inspires awe. This corner of Somerset is a paradise for those who crave a blend of subterranean adventures, breathtaking vistas, and a rich historical tapestry.
Descent into the depths of Gough's Cave on a guided tour and witness the majesty of stalagmites and stalactites sculpted by time. Learn how the unique cave environment contributes to the maturation of the world-famous Cheddar cheese, and stand where Cheddar Man, Britain's oldest complete human skeleton, was unearthed in 1903.
For panoramic vistas across the gorge, conquer the 274 steps of Jacob's Ladder. As you ascend, breathe in the fresh air and take in the breathtaking expanse of the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels, a vast wetland teeming with life. Rest stops along the way provide opportunities to admire the ever-changing scenery. Feeling even more adventurous? Lace up your boots and embark on the challenging yet rewarding 3-mile cliff-top walk around the gorge's rim. Immerse yourself in the fresh air, soak up the panoramic views, and keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls this ecosystem home. If you're short on time, head to Pulpit Rock lookout point for a stunning vista before returning down the ladder.
Unravel the mysteries of the past at the Museum of Prehistory. Explore archaeological finds unearthed in the Cheddar area and delve into the captivating story of how our ancestors lived thousands of years ago. The museum's fascinating artifacts and exhibits bring the prehistoric era to life.
After your adventures in the gorge, explore the charming village of Cheddar. Sample the world-famous cheese directly from its source at a local cheesemaker. Browse unique shops and indulge in a well-deserved meal at a cozy pub or restaurant.

I went to Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole on a coach trip many years ago so it's been lovely to see this. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much!
Great video beautiful and so many memories of childhood holidays
I used to go caving back in the early 80s in cheddar gorge .
It has become so commercial now , beyond what it was .
I drove through there a couple of summers ago , and thought its ruined , too many tourists , and tacky shops for me . It was heaving .People all over the road .
WOW WHAT A FANTASTIC PLACE, THANK YOU FOR TAKING US THERE.
Thank you 🙏
I’ve been to Cheddar many many times. It’s 30 miles away from me. It is best to start walking from the top of the gorge and not start at the bottom. It would save one’s legs. I’ve been in the caves, up Jacob’s ladder and the museum. Nice video.
I walk both ways as even if I start at the top and walk down I’d still have to walk back up to my car 🤣
I love the sign ☢️ for falling rocks....NO 😳. Never been there. You picked a quiet 🤫 day. Yeah looks alright. Happy you weren't knocked down 🚗 👍
❤️❤️❤️
