  • How to make a jumpsuit from scratch!
    This jumpsuit is inspired by the Lucy and Yak dungarees that I’ve been wanting to make for myself for such a long time, and I’m so happy with how they have turned out!

    The diagram is a brilliant idea I cannot tell you how much I love it so you do it every patternmaking video from now on!!! Add what's a lot of videos of people doing all different types of techniques to to describe what they doing. I've seen people using small scale models doing the actual pattern drafting and talking about it but that little diagram it just makes it so simple I love it

      @@eb2424 to my understanding, those could technically be the same thing. The top the diagram is where the overall bib piece starts and if you want that to intersect under the arm curve it can. But some folks like it lower.

    Before buying fabric please check your measurements and math as I had to cut one piece upside down to fit all of the pieces on my 3-yard fabric. I could only get 3 pieces wide but I did cut down on my fabric pieces a decent amount maybe wouldn't have been a problem. I am making this pattern out of some pretty heavy stretch corduroy. I appear to be more pear-shaped (37,34,46) than Janel and had to adjust the pattern a bit for both of those reasons. The changes I made were to examine a pair of my jeans and extend the back crotch curve to a 5-inch depth (instead of 4) and used my jeans to trace the curve which was much more horizontal than the one in the video. I kept Janel's front crotch the same as the video. I did add 2 inches to my 1/4th hip measurements and with the heavy fabric, it was too much. I took out about 2 inches in the outer hip and then tapered the leg to cut down on weight. Maybe it was my flatter crotch curve but I had to remove 2.25 inches from the top and waist and reshape the sides as it was too long in the body. Luckily I cut my legs long so that upward shift didn't matter. Next time I would just add about 2 inches from the top to the crotch measurement instead of 4. As expected with my 12-inch difference in hip to waist measurement, I had a really gaping side waist so I did angle the waist in about 1.5 inches on each side, which still fit over my hip and made it look very flattering and turned the more fitted waist gap inward instead of outward giving more modesty. This is a very adorable pattern. I may make a pair in a lighter fabric for summer. If you are concerned with being curvier in the bottom then base the crotch depth and curve off of your favorite jeans and then it is very easy to do any shaping you want the on side seams.

If we are not cutting the overall pieces on a fold, and rather 2 pieces to sew together when you say to measure the fullest part of your hips then draw a line with those measuremens onto your fabric; I assume you divide the measurement in half when drawing them onto the fabric? example: 45 inch hips plus and extra 4 inches for room=49. divide that in half and draw a 24.5 inch line? just want to clarify

    Hi, thanks for great tutorial. I’ve made a quick mock up and mine came out really tight even after adding the extra 5cm to the hips. Trying to work out where I went wrong… do I add the 5cm to my hip measurement then quarter the measurement or do I quarter my hip measurement then add the 5cm to this?

    I loved this so much! Been planning on making my own but I’m stuck with what fabric to use- is drill still light weight for summer time ? I’m looking for fabric that could work for hot and cold weather (I’m new to clothes making 😊)

      Drill is still cotton and slightly breathable, but might be a bit too thick for summer. It depends how hot your summer gets I guess! Have fun making it!

    I so much loved this!!! I’m definitely subscribing 💓💓💓 and what foot do you suggest I use if I want to make denim jumpsuits?

      Thank you! And thanks for following along 💕 Just your regular foot is fine, but you will need a denim needle 😊

    I’m quite new to sewing and this is my first garment that I will be sewing. Can you please clarify how I would secure the loops/straps? Thanks.

    Ive made quite a few things out of duvet covers recently as material shops and markets all closed due to corona virus and my material stash is very quickly dwindling

    Hi, firstly thanks for making this it is v easy to follow. I made this last weekend and made everything too big somehow...I am now making it again for a friend for her birthday and I want to get it perfect! So, can you confirm, on the measurement when you say add five cm but it has already been halved do you mean add five to the total or the halved amount? For example if hips are 100cm then divide by 4...is it 25cm plus 5cm to make 30cm as the top line measurement or is it 105cm divided by 4 is 26.25cm? Hope that makes sense, your guidance would be much appreciated! Lucy :)

    Hello! First - love love LOVE this! Thank you for posting. Just one quick, simple question: did you sew with 2.5cm seam allowance on each straight stitch??

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  Před 4 lety +2

      Thank you! No, the seam allowance is about 1cm. 2.5cm for seam allowance is for both sides when drafting the pieces, if that makes sense? 😊

    • @lailimade
      @lailimade Před 4 lety

      @@RoseryApparel Gotchya! Yes that makes perfect sense, thank you! I'm not sure why I was drafting with 5cm seam allowance the whole time?? Brains - aren't they funny??

    Have you tried to sew this in a linen or linen cotton blend? I'm new to making clothes and want to try sewing with linen.

    Even though its not needed, I want a jumpsuit to help in the school garden. The pair you made, is it stretchy? Does it allow movement? Is denim okay?

    Hey this is amazing, thanks so much for sharing. Can I ask- when you say add an extra 5cm to the widest point of the hips if you want a bit more room, is that 5cm to each quartered measurements or the total?

    Hola, i would like to attempt to do this lovely garment, could you let me know how many centimetres do you saw the seams? Is it 1,5 cm? For example when you join the big pieces together? Thanks xx
