The more knowledge & experience I’ve gained over the last three years, the more impressed I am with this tutorial. Stuart explains & demonstrates so many important, techniques & foundational aspects that go into a landscape painting, & he makes it easy to understand. I gain something new from his video each time I go back and watch one. Plus, I really enjoy listening to him talk.

The sky was very dramatic. I loved the effect - even at the risk it somehow diminished the clump of trees. I couldn't help tittering at your inviting me, in mid-winter, to look out and see how many leaves I could see on a tree in my garden as you were making your point about not needing to paint them individually. I look forward to your next tree painting, which appears to be seasonally leaf-free! 😉

    Mr. Davies
I did want to thank you for all of your videos. They have helped me a great deal in a way that might be "out of the norm". I am a model railroader. After recently being forced to retire (35.5 years with the same company... they sighted covid), I started to build what is, most likely, my last layout. This is a 30ft X 50ft, double decked, O scale layout. Every bit of that length has drywall behind it and I had decided to paint all of my own backdrops. Being that I am in the U.S. (Ohio) I get kidded all the time about Mr. Ross. I have to tell you that I started doing this by trying his methods. I found that "heavy" method extremely difficult and was no longer looking forward to painting all that space. Then, just by chance, I happened across your videos. While certainly not worthy of true art praise, I am getting more comments about the backdrops than the railroad. Not only do I look forward to painting new sections now, but you have helped develop another hobby for me. Now, I'm off to grab the BIG brush and... smooth, smooth smooth. Thanks again!'

I’ve been able to view all of Stuart’s videos over the last few months (many more then once), I have to say, THIS VIDEO in particular is so chocked full of very important concepts that he discusses & demonstrates, if as a newer painter like myself, you hadnt the professional schooling & experience Stuart’s had, this tutorial is a true gem!! It’s entertaining, interesting, & I found what he taught to be immediately useful in multiple ways in my landscape paintings. One of my top 5 of the hundreds of painting tutorials I’ve watched over the last 18 mos. Just brilliant.

    Hi Stuart,
I love watching your videos and have watched them over and over as they never cease to amaze me with your incredible Constable -like style. The way you manipulate paint on the Canvas or boards is probably unique on the CZcams Channel and this is what fascinates the viewers, myself included.
Another thing I find about painting, is that every approach to new paintings is virtually unique, although our approach may often require the same basic techniques to bring a painting to its final conclusion.
Nevertheless, Stuart, you are a great painter and tutor and I hope you are able to keep painting for many years to come. May God Bless you and keep you safe. looking for more of the same in future. thank you.😊

I’ve been watching you videos for months now Stuart. I’d planned to become a patron, but then something fell on my roof, lol, which required major repairs. I’m so happy as the repairs have just been completed, & I’m signing up for your $10/mo patron plan on 2/03 😃😄😃. I’m so excited to hear the Q&A from your Skype lessons. Ty for everything you’ve taught me already, & for always putting out such wonderful tutorial videos. I’ve watched every single one.

Hi Stuart, I started painting in oil December 2020 after watching your videos. (I only painted 3 acrylic and 1 oil in my entire life.) What I valued the most is the fact that you can "erase" your mistakes, change you mind, the use of "ear buds" and kitchenpaper. Also that you can create something from the initial "chaos". I love doing the clouds.
    Thanks for all the sharing!

The front of the paining is a bluff that goes from one side to the other, and I've been puzzling about what I would do with the sky. Now I know - color, light, more color, contrast, on and on and on. AND what fun. Can't wait to get to my easel. Bye for now.
