      I think the problem is... They don't at any point exceed the 30 limit. The cops aren't doing them for speeding, they are going after them for DWDCA I'm guessing for splashing everyone who is there only for the splashing. Therefore they are doing nothing for safety, and only doing it to ruin the fun and to get revenue.

      Found this on the RAC site for anyone to read.....
      Under section three of the Road Traffic Act 1988, it is illegal to splash someone as it amounts to driving “without reasonable consideration for other persons.”
      Those found guilty of deliberately driving through puddles and splashing pedestrians will likely be hit with a ÂŁ100 fixed penalty notice and three penalty points if caught by police.
      However, should motorists be deemed to be driving in a manner that “amounts to a clear act of incompetence, selfishness, impatience, and aggressiveness” then the maximum punishment of a £5,000 fine could be levelled.
      If drivers fail to pay the ÂŁ100 fixed penalty or refuse the penalty notice they could also face the maximum ÂŁ5,000 fine if the case is taken to court.

Any of the cops local to this area would be smart to do this. Wouldn't be a bad work performance bullet either in their yearly performance review. I agree with both sides of the arguement here. The police are supposedly under resourced, yet they can spare a car and one or two officers to sit by a patch of water for several hours. Equally, it's only a matter of time before something bad happens here, we've already seen near misses. So many children enjoy watching this, but there is definitely a significant risk to safety. Also you can thank the idiots who brick their motors going through this at break neck speeds, for the ever increasing insurance premiums, each time they have to make a claim due to their own stupidity.

And it isn't just "a few idiots" either, it's a good portion of drivers coming through here. Just because there is no malicious intent does not mean police should not get involved.

    The cyclist at 2.07 would have a very strong grounds for a case of bodily assault against the white BMW driver... No joke... he did not ask to be showered head to foot in dirty river water just so the BMW could have fun as he sped through the ford. It is illegal to knowingly splashing pedestrians or cyclists and he can be prosecuted under Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act for careless, aggressive or inconsiderate behaviour to other road users including cyclists. To boot, if assault is proven in law, the driver would receive a criminal record for his behaviour risking a huge number of factors in his everyday life...

      BMW driver has total plausible deniability. He was most likely not exceeding 30 (which even if he was, cannot be proved via video) and it was round a corner in which he could not see the cyclist. Arguably applying emergency brakes to slow down may have been more dangerous as ABS would have struggled to control the car on a wet, slippery slope. Not to mention perspective on this video would make the BMW appear closer to the cyclist, when in reality he probably only got a mist of water over his back.

      @@tommolewis3105 I think you just countered your own argument- rounding a corner where he could not see the cyclist and potentially not being able to control his vehicle under braking all means he was going too fast and driving, at best, without due care and attention but more likely recklessly or even dangerously.

    • @tommolewis3105
      @tommolewis3105 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      @@graemetaylor4149 Absolutely not. If you think that every corner someone drives around they should assume there is a cyclist we would never get anywhere. The bmw wasn’t even close to hitting the cyclist and barely even ‘misted him’. The video shows his plate, you can submit that to the police and see how far it gets you. They would not consider that dangerous driving or driving without due care as the cyclist wasn’t even phased by his actions and he was obeying the speed limit.

    As it’s a Residential Area, it will be a 30mph Limit, possibly even 20mph. The speed those Police Pursuit Drivers are driving at is WELL OVER THE SPEED LIMIT without good reason. If it is a 20mph Limit, then doing 40+mph without good reason means Automatic Disqualification and forced to Resit your Driving Test after the period of disqualification has expired.
