    so I worked on the original CAD concept for the XD a few years ago, including that hub design that integrates the rotor and disc brake on one side. I still have the prototype adapter here in my shop. lol. They did a really good job of fine tuning that concept, developing it further, sourcing the right parts and components and turning it into a reality! Proud to have been part of it! Go Biktrix!

    Their drive train is what mid drives need. There won’t be damaged, or even the worry of having a chain/drive get damaged putting so much force a mid drive will on a bike. I only wish there was one side instead of two you have to concern of keeping running well. Also a full suspension would be not only nice, but a must with all that power/speed.

      We haven't found the hard tail configuration to hold us back whatsoever, fat tires do the trick!
      The second chain (power side) requires very little attention. We use motul chain lube which has a much longer lube interval compared to any bicycle chain lube, this is an advantage of using motorsport chain.

    • @EnergyNewsToday
      @EnergyNewsToday Pƙed rokem +1

      I don’t know brother. A full suspension set up especially on a stronger carbon frame would be pretty amazing especially if this was on 27.5” or 29” wheels with 2.6” dd Maxxis tires. That would be a whole other level. Not knocking what you are doing just saying there is a whole other level you could go to that people would pay for to get this if you could master the linkage, chain and that power. Tires only have so much travel and on chatter at speed you could go down hard.

    • @jregras
      @jregras Pƙed rokem +1

      @@EnergyNewsToday Actually to tell you the truth, I've been biking for 20 years grew up in BC with MTBs including full suspension, I still don't really care for FS. I prefer carbon rigid forks, high-end tires, and great (rigid) frame design, including titanium frames.
      With the advent of 27.5" mid-fat tubeless tires, evolved fatbike frame design, heavy-duty racing carbon fatbike forks, the innovators of the world brought together what I consider the perfect everything bike. Simple and robust, low maintenance, comparatively low weight too.
      There is absolutely nothing calling to me from the full suspension, or even suspension fork side of things. They simply aren't necessary for a fit rider who's willing to put in the time to actually learn how to ride skillfully... The other more elementary components are more important to focus on.

    I guess it depends on if you want to pedal or not. I’ve had 3 Sondors ebikes and liked them a lot. But I got a SurRon and if you want an electric bike, and don’t want to pedal, this is the answer!
    I love it. I wish I had kept my Sondors FOLD-X. Small enough it’s easy to move around, 500 Watt motor, plenty of electric boost when you want it.
    I’m upgrading the SurRon to 72 Volt. I got the controller a few days ago and am waiting for the CHI Battery 72 Volt/38 Amp Hour Gladiator. I’m 79 years old and I wish ebikes had been available when I was a kid. I’ve had some kind of ebike for the last 25+ years.
    I finally had my METACYCLE delivered
and it’s the WRONG COLOR! Over 14 months late and the color is wrong. My life is pretty darn good! This is the largest problem in my life @ the present time. Merry Christmas,Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah and any other Holiday you celebrate.

    I converted my Raleigh Venture 4.0 with Bafang 750 watt mid-drive 48 volts. Upgraded double walled aluminum wheels with 14 gauge stainless steel spokes, Shimano 7 internal gears. My build is about 65lbs.
    I did speed tests changing out sprockets and programming smaller wheel sizes

    My results was much more power consumption to roll over 30mph. My display showed over 1,000 watts going into my 750 watt motor.
    My comfortable speed is 22 mph in my highest gear. Going up a steep hill in first gear is about 8 mph. Mid gear 4th is 16 mph is a comfortable cadence.
    If the rider doesn’t down shift going up hills it will over heat to motor resulting in motor failure eventually.
    I have my power assist setting at 9 options. 1&2 are very weak, so I start out in #3. When I get on a stretch of road to shift into my highest gear I raise the power assist with the gears so 4th gear gets power assist #4, 5th gear gets power assist #5 and so on.
    I think matching the power level with the gears is practical. That puts less stress on my chain and gearbox.
    I need to fabricate a chain tensioner for my back axle, just like dirt bikes have. My 750 watt mid-drive can put more torque on the drive system than I can with the peddles

    I try not to go above 4th gear my motor works better with me, it’s a happy medium

The Currie kit came with a wheel with a sprocket on the left side of the hub which was driven by an ordinary bicycle chain from the motor. Unlike the Biktrix the motor was not mounted in the mid-drive configuration. It's hard to describe how the motor of the Currie was mounted, you'll have to Google it for a pic - Currie US Pro-Drive Electric Bicycle Conversion Kit. Any any rate the Currie kit was weak but it was uber cheap, unlike the Biktrix.

    While the motor to wheel delivery promises reliable engineering for a load of torque, it completely bypasses and negates the real advantage of the midrive motor concept? That is for the motor, not just the rider to take advantage of the rear wheel gears. Dividing or multiplying the gear ratio to climb steep hills or to increase top speed.
    Both accomplished with less hp than a hub motor. Thus, a smaller motor and battery can outperform the heavier hub and battery competitor. A better idea would be to beef up a proprietary chain and gear system to accommodate the torque of higher watt systems. Those high torque hub motors round out the drop outs despite the added axle arms.
    I have run 2000-watt hub motors with a heavy load of batteries and the bikes feel more like a motorcycle.
    Good luck peddling home without the motor. Constant tightening of the rear axle bolts and loose spokes once a week or your dropout becomes round and the axle spins winding the leads up in a mess.
    A powerful mid drive with a heavier chain and cassette and midrive crank transmission engineered for its own HP. Mid- drive systems are Currently looking like toys compared to what should come next.

      Electric motors can have very linear power delivery, and can be capable of extremely high RPMs. You realy don't need a gear system for the electric motor.
      Human legs powering a bicycle on the other hand, have a very narrow comfortable speed range, and do require gearing to make the most of it.
      This bike DOES use the box 8 gearing for the conventional pedal side. The box prime 8 spd, wide range (cheap) groupset, while not fancy, will work fine.
      The weakest link in any mid drive pedal assist E-bike is the gearing. Traditional bike gearing cannot handle the increased power. On my Bafang ultra emtb, I destroyed a 12 spd rear cassette in 50kms, and a box prime 9spd in an about 100kms.
      One solution is to move to internal gear hubs, and use stronger chains, chainrings and cogs.
      The other solution is this one, where you separate the electric engine from the human side. Effectively using a different drive train for each.
      The next step up, is to just abandon using human power at all, and you have something like the sur Ron.

But most reviews of bikes in the usa seem to start with how much watts and/or nm it has.. The goal seems to be to evolve it as quickly as they can into a motorcycle and expect the laws (and deaths) not to follow. This is not real innovation we know how to make powerful motors its just sellers following the mindset of the old muscle car freaks. I guess ill stay with my german based bicycle that as with german cars inovate more than just how much power can we put on a frame and why. To each their own i guess but i hope for many people and cities that could use 'normal' ebikes that mimic normal bicycles and not motorcycles these are split soon into two concepts so that the laws will not kill what is good about it for so many people.
