In our new animated historical documentary we will tell the story of the first foreign samurai in Japan, the man from Africa, they called Yasuke. He traveled to Japan with the Portuguese missionaries and played an interesting role in the Sengoku Jidai period and in the life of the daimyo Oda Nobunaga.

But his real name was not senpai like in the anime, but his masters name was indeed hiko sejiro, and yes he was taught the hidden mitsurugi style, although his original upbringings has lot of controversies we will go with the most concrete information we possibly can get, As the story goes......
From a slave boy born into such harsh conditions in Africa... to one of the closest retainar of the most powerful man in Japan at the time, accepted into the strongest clan. Such a fantastic story.
Considering how African slavery worked, it's highly unlikely he was born into slavery. One of or both of his parents likely became slaves sometime after his birth.
@@afroartist1086 or maybe he was kidnapped many children were kidnapped and forced into slavery
@sakurakou2009 Also unlikely. Contrary to popular belief, only really a handful of Sub-Saharan African kingdoms and tribes actively raided for slaves. The majority of slaves were actually gained through capturing of enemy troops during warfare and punishment for criminals as well as those working off debt. If he was born into slavery, his parents were likely already slaves.

Japan was balkanized at that time, stood independently fighting each other. Oda Nobunaga is a Daimyo, which is head of one of those clans, but said to be the most powerful Daimyo. Emperor in Japan did exist aside from that, but didn't really had any commanding power over Japan. Actually, it probably had more to do with the Moorish empire. At that period in history, Spain and Portugal still had small native African populations, remnants from the Moorish period that had just ended. Many of the Moorish descendants were shipped out of the country and used as sailors and colonial servants after the Iberian inquisitions. Two things you’re missing historically are that He was being used as a bodyguard by the missionary, as it was common for missionaries of the time to purchase mercenaries or athletic slaves as guards, especially if venturing into feudal Japan. Second, the Japanese were fascinated by His skin color because older pictures of Buddha depicted Him with very dark skin, and since most of Japan was Buddhist there was an obvious likeness to their supreme teacher in Him, and yes He was a large athletic Man that probably towered over most of them.

At a certain point in time, everyone living anywhere on planet Earth was a black[sic] person.

Similar to the inhabitants of all the other continents, Asia's native Japenese was initially black[sic] people that travelled and had made their way there from within the Africa continent, and they existed in Japan and all the other Asian countries for thousands upon thousands of years until the current stock of Asians and Japenese appear later around 100 - 200 thousands years ago.

How quickly we forget that Denzel Washington's son, John David, is a thing. He's got the height, the physicality (if the trailers from Tenet are any indication), he's got the right skin tone, has an intimidating look/presence and he's got a good measure of his father's acting chops. Also, given that Denzel Washington himself sponsored Chadwick's acting education out of his own pocket, it seems only fitting that John David Washington have his name thrown into the hat for the short list to lead a Yasuke film........assuming that Hollywood is even still keen on doing it.
@@melcody5042 That's trivial it's about who can bring the role to life. Chadwick was a true thespian and he really was for the culture. He would have played this role like no other

Even Japan, South Korea and Taiwan (The most forward thinking Asian nations) treat black people a lot worse than Western white majority countries. And I say this as someone who loves and has lived in Asia for years, and is married to a Japanese person.
Asians in the west are also starting to be grouped in with white people because they're so successful. They're being discriminated against in universities because they "Do too well" and there is talk of discriminating against them in the tech industry for the same reason :(

we have only few sentences about him on our record. About his skin color, about the seller and the buyer and about why his Japanese was terrible. That's all.
Then why Black Americans keep saying all the source of this story come our historical records??
most of this story is nonsense.
First of all, They don't even know what Samurai is.
Samurai was a title given from your blood line. Not a rank that someone can give you or takes back.
@@quad9936 That's complete nonsense. Toyotomi Hideyoshi was a peasant before Oda Nobunaga hired him as a samurai. After Hideyoshi conquered all of japan, he commanded the 刀狩令, which banned peasants and monks using katanas.
It is from this point that samurais are titled from bloodline.
At the time of Yasuke, pretty much everyone could be a samurai.
@@user-ph8jc6wx2h Nonsese?
Really?
OK. Let’s check which history is nonsense.
In many Japanese history books, Hideyoshi was recorded as a 足軽. 足軽 was obviously a rank of Samurai(A very very low rank though), especially by the term of 尾張's tradition. Just because people called him a peasant or very low class person at the time, it didn’t mean he wasn’t in a Samurai class at all. Exactly same situation of that foreigners also often say “How 石田三成 or 藤堂高虎 were samurai class?!” since they misunderstand about the title, Samurai.
So the real nonsense is your _” At the time of Yasuke, pretty much everyone could be a samurai.”_
First of all,
In the 信長公記, his name was recorded as “弥助”. This means he was just one of Nobunaga's many servants, not a samurai at all until he was gone from Japan.
I'm Japanese. He is one of my favorite samurai!

Yasuke, originally a black slave and a missionary, caught the eye of Oda Nobunaga big time. According to the "Nobunaga-ko Ki" (Chronicles of Nobunaga), Yasuke got his own crib and a katana. Even in the "Kachuu Nikki" (Family Loyalty Diary), Yasuke isn't treated like your typical slave or indentured servant; he's documented as a stipendiary, almost like a legit warrior.
And get this, the letters from missionaries like Frois spill the tea on Yasuke too. Back then, being a stipendiary was like becoming a knight in Europe - talk about a glow-up from slave to knight!
Nobunaga was planning to hook Yasuke up with a castle once he unified Japan. That's some noble status right there, like being a "duke" or "earl" in Europe. Imagine, in an era when black folks were usually stuck in slavery, if this had happened, we might've seen Nobunaga and Yasuke in history textbooks worldwide as the dynamic duo - the lord and his noble black sidekick!😅
