After posting this video I found more info on this animation--The flipbook animation on the backs of these cards is in fact an artist's best effort at recreating of what the animation would have looked like, based on a small handful of high res images, and ~35 extremely blurry low res images from original proof sheets. After comparing the blurry proof sheets to the animation in this set, it is clear to me that the animation is different. In the original, the kid flips as he falls. This recreated version doesn't do that. Still a good attempt and restoring and recreating the animation, but it is definitely different. [nerd mode over.]

@@dct2 Yeah... I don't know if "illegal" is the most precise word. It's not like anyone will go to jail over this flipbook. But it is technically a copyright infringement which means that there is a law against making it.
Loved seeing your kids geek out with you over the GPK cards. I loved getting cards as a kid back in the 80’s. It’s always fun seeing you go through the cards in these videos.

I was a schoolteacher; I remember all the pearl-clutching over those Garbage Pail cards. People were positively howling over how awful they were! If kids got caught with the things at school, they were confiscated. LOL
I have to admit that (though I couldn't let on!) I found most of the cards absolutely hysterical and subversively witty.😝

Very cool video. I didn't notice any gaps when the flip book was played on video, so maybe the two missing cards/numbers are actually non-existent and the cards/sets were mis-numbered. It's great to see your family get involved.

The content has gotten way better, and I'm happy that you've come back to 'Garbage Pail Kids'! I used to love the cards and the flipbooks myself! They may be gross or nasty for some people, but in my opinion, it's great and I love some of the cards and the pictures on them! I really like how they are drawn, and it really brings back memories from back then! Some children, teenagers or adults may hate these card packs, but I'm glad that they were made, especially for people like me who love these card packages! I'm also very surprised that you got your very own card picture of you! It's well made and I love your flipbooks and your lovely work! I may not use Garbage Pail Kids packs anymore (because of my age), but I still absolutely love them, and I'm happy that you open their packages, and use the opportunity to open an illegal package of 'Garbage Pail Kids'! Thank you for all of the hard work, and all the exciting opportunities you've made, and the effort, the determination, the time, and the very clever things you do! I really enjoyed this video. I am Australian, but ex-pat as kid and went to an American school in the 80s, I came back to aus 89, i just it was just that they didnt sell them here. Niw I learn they stopped making them.

i remember having the green gum ones when i was a kid because my mom was a fan of GPK when she was younger, this was a fun watch that brought back a lot of memories!

I thought that Flip Book was illegal cause it had something like super Gorey content or lots of NSFW content that they are selling to children but it's a Counterfeit which still bad but overall i still think it's overpriced.
Parents had the same misconception about the originals in the 80s.
Bugged BOYD is an homage to a different gross card set of that era, Dinosaurs Attack, which was itself an homage to Mars Attacks. The specific card it's parodying is Trilobite Terror.
