    I remember this day. It was a Sunday. I was 9 years old. I wanted to watch it so bad but had to attend house fellowship. I kept track of how Nigeria was doing by the screams I heard . When Nigeria scored the neighborhood was ecstatic. I knew Nigeria had lost when it was really quiet after house fellowship. It was a great day

      While agree with you but I want you to know some games are like that. Those players were introduced in the second half, weren't they. They actually lost because of the controversial penalty decision of the referee. To come back from two goals down against a very formidable Cameroonian side was not easy. When same feature was repeated in 2004, they lost to Nigeria.

      @Geobrume.
      Thanks for the response.
      I remember the match and it's background all too well.
      Raphaël Chukwu scored à brillant goal à min to the end of the first half but wasn't even allowed to start the 2nd, showing even Bonfrere knew he got it wrong.
      Yes, those 2 players were introduced in the 2nd half and the Eagles were much better, more dynamic.
      Case in point, Cameroon played a 3-5-2 formation with Étamé Mayer (later known as Lauren in Arsenal) and Geremi attacking/defending from the right.
      When Babangida came in, his pace troubled the Cameroonians so much, Étamé Mayer had to be drafted to the left track him which nullified the Lions as an attacking threat in the right midfield

    @deepbg1 Nigeria did beat Cameroon in the quarter final of 2004. Also way back in 92 in Senegal, Nigeria beat Cameroon at the 3rd position game.

    The referee didn't see Victor's penalty because the floor lights were blurry that night.

    Over the years I'm a Cameroon fan from Kenya but Nigeria was robbed in this match.

    Goalkeeper Shuromo was worst than Akpeyi of today.He killed Nigeria in that match, coupled with Ikpeba who was professional in the game but doesn't know when ball passes goal line.

    we need goal line technology and we can also borrow some rules from the NBA but i wonder if fifa is ready for it, cameroon had no business winning that tournament the way they did cos the nigerian ball crossed the goal line but the ref turned a blind eye very unfortunate.

      In 1984 it was 3 - 1 for Cameroon. Even if the goal was accepted it would have been 3- 2 for Cameroon. Then in 2000 it was a mistake from the referee and anyone could have won in penalty kicks

    I really don't know why the coach did not change Kanu Nwankwo, after the first half. He was out of the match, made no impact at all to the match.
