@@Izzythemaker127 a streamer I watch got a deal with Raid to stream the game for 4 hours in exchange for something akin to like 10-20% of her rent. The game was so bad that half an hour in she just started bashing it and said she didn't care if she lost the sponsorship.
They not only still paid her, but gave her a second potential sponsorship. She didn't pursue it though because she felt bad about marketing something so blatantly awful

I heard about the whole mess with Mitchell from Apollo way back, but at this point I'm convinced that while he's obviously lashing out at everyone that's been making him look as bad as he is, he just wants to ruin lives of everyone he can because how dare they expose him. This is mind boggling; if anyone asked me back in 1982 if we would be talking about Donkey Kong 40 years later, I would suggest they were crazy.
It was in 1982, my senior year in high school, an arcade opened in the little town I grew up in, in the middle of the Mojave desert. They sold ice cream and had four video games: Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Pengo, and Frogger. Finally, we had something to do. We didn't have cell phones or social media. There wasn't much else to do besides getting into trouble. I worked at the Shell gas station for $3.35 an hour and spent about half that on Donkey Kong.
I don't recall scoring anywhere near 1M points playing DK, despite the amount of money I spent playing it. My only highlight was meeting a younger Arnold Schwarzenegger when he stopped there for ice cream while passing through town. At the time he was still an active body builder and he graciously signed autographs for me and my friends.

Seriously tho, I have seen Raid ad's on gaming channels, science channels and even gun channels... there advertising budget must be massive, yet I never hear of anyone actually playing the damn game. I would bet my life Karl and other creators don't play Raid in there spare time.
I think, regardless of the outcome of the lawsuits, that Billy Mitchell has been defeated, and is living out his sentence.
Think about it, this guy built his whole life and self image around his gaming prowess, accomplishments and persona. And now, it is clear to anyone with a brain he is a fake, and a bully who will harass and intimidate critics into silence.
Not only is his legacy tarnished beyond repair, even if he somehow proved all the allegations were false, the way he has conducted himself has been embarrassing.
It is clear he spends the vast majority of his mental energy dealing with this, he is probably stressed beyond all belief and living in torment, a fitting punishment for the stress he has caused others.
These kind of people don't feel any remorse for the damage they have done, he's probably is mad but because he's losing, not that it pays a toll in his conscience or makes him sleep less, he's probably devising a new strategy right now.
And that game is donkey fucking kong. Donkey Kong. 😔

Extortion and intimidation isn't new for these guys. Billy used Walter to intimidate board members of IVGHOF over a decade ago, which led to good people leaving because they just didn't want the hassle. It was all some strange infiltration take over attempt for an over-ambitious idea that was a failure from day one. They love to cling to failure, that's never changed either.
I have dozens of other stories, their insufferable incompetence and ego has spawned many adventures over the past few decades.
It's especially great of him to keep covering this even while actively in a legal battle with the guy. Absolute legend.

In a video basically saying Billy is the worst… he compares his sponsor to Billy in the best way possible.
The problem is that Billy's mommy and daddy probably never told him 'No' when he was a child.
When I watched King of Kong, worse than Billy Mitchell pissed me off, was how much of a Billy Brown Noser that manager of Twin Galaxies was--the older guy with short dark hair. He shat all over Steve Weibe, or whatever his name was, the true DK champion at the time. I haven't watched the movie since it originally showed up on Netflix, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I'll never forget how aggravating that whole situation was. The little guy from nowhere who was actually dedicated to his craft and worked hard, but Billy wouldn't show up to compete, wasting Steve's time and money.

The best punishment for all of these douches, besides having to endure each other, is that now they have to walk on thin ice with everything they say. They really got conned by lawyers and the suit system.
I think the point is that it's much easier to cheat on an emulator and that there is no way to know 100% either way, so it at least is very suspicious and saying he definitely did not cheat makes no sense.

Not to go on a rant about or play armchair psychologist but it's known that a narcissist cannot handle losing or self-diminishment at all. They have to be above you. They have to win. No joke can be made at their expense. Etc.
They literally lack the shame needed to see that their behavior is crazy and the part of the brain that gives for the common good, be it something as little as attention or such. They HAVE TO be at the top (or perceive themselves to be).
Oddly, the only people they ever have any ability to "bow to" are other narcissists. It's like they sense it and rather than fight like rabid pitbulls (like what would make sense) they are often deferential to another narcissist. It's crazy.
I'm not political and DNGAF (can't stress that enough) but the previous American President was/is a textbook narcissist. He's the best at everything and will tell you with a straight face.

Anyway, so to even run the risk of losing to an average person is such a personal ego-risk for a guy like Billy that he just won't risk it. Hence cheating. He can have his cake and eat it to (until recently anyway).
I think because if they were legitimate, they wouldn't get far. they'd have a brief period of fame then disappear back into obscurity. to get actually famous, you need to do extraordinary things - like be proclaimed the gamer of the century - and those things can often only be achieved by fraudulent means

Yeah billy does seem to be pretty competent, cheating aside, like he actually could have probably gotten the official record if he just put in the same amount of effort he puts into this crap into the actual runs.

Not really decades of deceit. He was the legitimate world record holder all throughout the 80s and 90s before MAME existed. He only started to cheat in the 2010s when people surpassed him. This is a Barry Bonds situation. A guy who was already one of the best baseball players to ever live before he took steroids, but his ego couldn’t allow guys like Sosa and McGwire to hog all the glory.

He stood up for them because he had a personal financial interest in keeping good relations with them. And he was ready to cover up a major crime (extorting witnesses) to keep the business relation.

The whole Billy Mitchell cheating thing could have been rectified by him proving that he could do it again. It was pretty obvious that he was using an emulator and there’s no way of telling if that code was modified that he was playing the game on.
