Watercolor Painting Demonstration, FabrianoInAcquarello, May 30, 2020, by Keiko Tanabe

It was an honor for me to be invited to participate in the 2020 edition of FabrianoInAcquarello, an annual international watercolor conference held in Fabriano, Italy. In 2020, due to the pandemic, the conference was organized online. This is my demonstration, exclusively made for the event.

Mostly self-taught, Keiko Tanabe embarked on a professional art career in 2005. Since then, her paintings have been in many national and international exhibitions, both juried and invitational, and gained world-wide recognitions. Her work has been purchased by private and corporate collectors from all around the world. She also had her paintings published and featured in leading art magazines and a number of publications in the U.S., Europe and Asia. A sought-after workshop instructor since 2011, she has conducted more than 300 workshops and numerous live demonstrations around the world. Her approach to teaching is to help students identify and solve their problems to further advance their technical skills and refine their style.
She has several books and 4 DVD’s published and has been featured in many art magazines. She is currently a member of National Watercolor Society (signature), American Watercolor Society (signature), American Impressionist Society and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (signature). Keiko was born in Kyoto, Japan and currently lives in San Diego, California.

So light and atmospheric with just the right amount of details! This is the style I am so drawn to and aspire to pain that way, but it takes many brush miles, lots of practice to have the confidence to keep things moving and light! Thank you for the demonstration. I hope you will create an online art school with tutorials for beginners all the way to experienced. Blessings!

I thought the impressionistic portion at the lower left wasn’t going to play well against the realism of the boats, but then it all came together to make a dream of Kyoto that worked very well. Well done.
