76 DEVELOPING THE "IT DOESN'T MATTER" ATTITUDE. Watching Sargent watercolors. Reading Big Magic

- Working on a watercolor of a house in the dunes reminds me of a watercolorpainting from John Singer Sargent I saw a long time ago. Sargent was a genius in the way he could translate complexity into simplicity. The way he was able to do this reveals his "it doesn't matter" attitude; we can develop this attitude by painting every single day.

What I love about your videos is that they are more than a demonstration of your paintings but the philosophy of your creativity.
John Singer Sargent... simply, I agree. Live sessions would be great, for all of us who follow you for quite a while. Thanks.
I'm usually out at work when folk do livestreams. Anyway, they drive me nuts when people ask the same tedious questions 😅.
I just love these Friday videos.🤗
I love just having your presence while I create. Your perfectly balanced "whatever/this is important"-attitude is contagious. And I can immediately also find my balance. I would love it either way in a live. Silence. Talking. Alternating between both. Painting. No painting. You showing some other artist you like and explaining why. Sharing spontaneous thoughts and realizations. I kind of like when things are completely unplanned and whatever happens, happens. But at the same time, you know, maybe nothing can ever be unplanned. Because we are never a blank canvas. And everything that has ever happened or not happened in your life and in the entire history of evolution has prepared us all for this exact moment. So, we are in a way always prepared. And we can't go back in time to change that. That is worth acknowledge, appreciation and honor. And then we should indeed through it to the dogs.
However it would be nice to just sail on each other's company and vibe while doing whatever feels right. To perhaps paint or create casually together and pause for reflection when and if the need naturally arises. Just a light and easy coexistence?
Love,
Mika Lo Wahren
Thank you Mika!
What i like is, you are so relaxed while you are painting and your art is very beautyful! It is inspiration for me. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤
It would be a pleasure to see booth. To see you in a demo and all continue making what you do because is fantastic. Please keep on and teach us to paint streets and home portraits as you do. Love you works.
good to see you ,thank you so much for sharing your art life,oh yes i would love to chat live with you and fellow artists,i have been in lots of chats and even painted with them,
Thanks for doing what you do. I look forward to videos each Friday. I was fortunate to see many of Sargent’s works at the Chicago Museum of Art a few years ago. The “easy breezy” style of his watercolors amazes me and I love the summer house (yours and his 😊).
A live video is a great idea.
Wonderful episode! Love the idea for a live stream. While watching you paint is compelling, I’d much rather it be a chat as you describe it. I find your thought process and philosophy fascinating. 😊
A live stream once in awhile would be nice. I like the philosophical end of things.' How to' videos are every where on CZcams. 😊
Great video as always.

Jolie découverte des aquarelles de Singer....un délice. Merci pour la métaphore des racines....je m'en servirais avec votre accord.
A live ? Yesss ! About your choices of composition, colors and wash strategy, for example ?
Ýes to a live stream please. I would love to see a live demonstration and be able to ask about your favourite pigments and know a little more about your lifting techniques and how you decide when to stop painting. I suspect that is common dilemma amongst many of us. Many thanks.
I love your thoughtfulness and rationale about composition. For example: what to leave out, what to keep, what to highlight and why you conclude with what you end up with. Thank you!!!
Hi Titus. Love that painting and your description of Sargents approach. YESSSS!! Do a live CZcams. Would be great!! Love the quote from Big Magic! Paradox indeed! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book. We look forward to you visiting us in our living room every Friday night. It’s very calming after a long week. Thank you for your poetic approach to explaining art. It’s such a refreshing change. 👏👏👍🌷
Live sessions would be great! Chatting with you and I'd love to see you do something out of your comfort zone. If this would be an example of stepping outside your comfort zone, how about abstracts using your favorite personal pigments? It's a great way to play with color...in my opinion. 😀🌷
This painting is absolutely beautiful. My favorite by far.
Yes. A live show would be wonderful!
Big Magic on my “ get this book” list 😊thanks for sharing
So beautiful!
Titusmeeuws, Thanksyou Very much ,I was Very inspired by your message, your incredible Memories , your reflection on John Singer Sargent , I even managed to express a poem in this version!!! , I love your inspiring vídeos ,Very good , "thanksyou Teacher" .👍🖌️🎨🖼️🥰
🙌❤️🇧🇷🙌
🕊️
I know nothing of painting but I love to watch and would like to see a fairground scene with a big colourful carousel and lots of children moving around, something along the lines of the marching band
I loved this week’s painting! It’s just beautiful - colorful, happy. I think live sessions would be nice. I am intrigued by all the different brushes you use. That funky two-lengths- of-bristles brush is interesting and I think you use it only for shrubbery.
Especially wonderful episode. Thank you.
As a watercolour painter myself, I also love Sargent's work. He was a master of painting reflected light, as demonstrated in the examples you showed in your video. As I tell my students, shadows aren't just grey! I enjoy your films Titus.
I love Big Magic, such a good book, thank you for sharing JSS, the light on that house is amazing, he’s someone I haven’t looked at since art school 30 years ago, you have inspired me to revisit him.
Saying is so true from the book. Very nice. Makes so much sense. We really learn by examples, we plant not just enough seeds but so much more to make sure. Have a great weekend. Going live is a nice idea. I enjoy certain themes, maybe not newer wc themes but that is something better left to your thinking. Layering is a technique individualized to everyone. Likewise negative painting. I was thinking of your house and how some light branches could be surrounded with the darker green and different greens. It all sounds just fine. 😊
Live-YES!!!
I would like to see a live session though I'm on the west coast of the US, 9 hours difference
A live chat once a month would be great. I would like to know what are your favourite art books you have or would like to own. Thank you for being you. I also love Singer Sargent's works. Love from Australia.
Hello Titus: Since we see an extensive application with your work methods on Fridays, maybe delving into various artists and your input into their style and methods. I enjoyed the short segment on Sargent and you pointed out aspects from the two pieces shown that I have never thought about before, even though I'm very familiar with Sargent's work. All the best for future projects. 🌜
I'd love to see a live demo and get more of your thought processes. Love to see the colours and make of brushes and paper. What are you looking at and reading?
Yes, would like a live video and chat
After listening to you and seeing the book with Sargent’s watercolor, I went over to my bookshelf and found a book I have with his art and sure enough there was a color reproduction (full page) and another page showing details. I would not have noticed the brilliance of the work titled “Corfu:Lights and Shadows”, had you not mentioned it. If you need an idea for a “live” maybe sharing more art that inspires you. Because when you do that, we all can learn from the highlights you point out. Thank you!
I would love to hear you "think out loud" while you paint, to give voice to the inner dialogue that guides your choices of color and technique.
Beautiful!
Indeed, it is when you become more comfortable with painting that the act of painting itself becomes the most important part. Brushes, colors, final results ...., everything else matters very little, or it doesn't matter at all.
Hi Titus yes i want you to have livevideos im looking forward to se that for example only for us members who pay you because you have a several cost to do videos and thank you for all videos
👍 nice
New subscriber, love your work.
I've followed you for a year now and love your Friday films, but never made a comment before. Your considered approach and thoughtfulness is impressive and inspiring. Lives are great, and i would welcome those if the timing suited work commitments and provided people listen and don't ask silly questions that distract from the focus. How will you interact?
O ja een live zou heel leuk zijn, ik ben voor...dat je gaat schilderen en vragen beantwoorden, mijmeren over filosofische vraagstukken..
yes a live stream doing a watercolor plus some questions will be great
Live would be nice but l might be sleeping,😴 will you record it and the questions & answers so we down under can see it later?
Live sessions ✌
Wat een goed idee, live geeft een andere energie. Ps ik zou graag willen dat je uitleg hoe je de bladeren struiken doet met die bijzondere kwast. Ik doe het ook maar lukt niet echt goed.
I would love a live show and is it possible to visit you and your studio?
Hi Titus just to let you know i found on you tube a oil painter in still life portraits you may like Jos Van Reswick from Nijmegen do look T
a live stream would be great, and a watercolour painting session would be wonderful!
