I got a story. Me and my mom both buy used goods from thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales. And a few months ago I found some Dolce & Gabbana shoes that looked like regular sneakers with a velvet crown sown onto the side. They were super dirty. Falling apart and in my opinion un-Wearable beacuse they were so worn on the inside heels that the plastic was popping out and would dig into your heel when you walked. I looked them up and used in good shape they were going for $600. I put them back on the shelf. And my mom walks up and I tell her about them. She grabs them and says she's gunna risk the $10 to see if anyone wants them. I say ain't no way you're going to sell those there un Wearable. She sold them within 24 hours for $225. And all of the issues with them were made very clear with very detailed photos of the damage. It's in that moment I lost all hope for humanity.

That was actually a trick used by some of the most fashionable Kings during the Renaissance. They kept their wealthy rivals from getting too powerful by directly linking social status to lunatic expensive fashion trends that required the lords to constantly pour absurd fortunes into single wear clothing items in order to even just maintain their current status... otherwise they could get insta kicked out of the power circle. Those Kings had enough income to afford those fashion crazes, but for the other lords it literally crippled their abilities to amass wealth/build armies/power invest, and thus increase their power.

This was also similar to how double breasted suits became a thing. Apparently King Henry something something got too fat to button up his suits so he started wearing them unbuttoned so one of the royal tailors made him a custom suit to try on for size and wear unbuttoned while still being fashionable. Turns out he liked and it was a huge hit with other aristocracy and the peerage and thus the double breasted suit was born.

@@etherealboomslang991 It's pecking order. Kids of cultures that focus on having expensive/nice sneakers or clothes are doing it so their kids don't get bullied. A lot of black comedians have touched on this subject regarding how welfare or financial struggles went.
Basically, classism creates classist nature even among the poor. You may not be able to pay rent, but at least your kid won't "look" poor at school, since kids are highly attentive to social markers and fitting in, specifically in middle through high school. You have to have what the other kids have or you will be mocked for it, because kids are mean when they enter the stage of establishing social ranking, which is middle to high school.
As someone who has been poor all their life, apparently my fashion sense which was not expensive caused others to think I was wealthy because I liked more adult looking fashion. Most kids at my school were actually wealthy, so this baffled me when someone told me that they thought I was all out rich. I didn't go to an inner city impoverished school either. I can't imagine the intense pressure and ostracizing that happens when everyone is basically competing for last place fiercely. Because our classist society is about divide and conquer. Poor people compete to not look poor because being poor is associated with all kinds of insane and brutal social stigma.
Hence welfare queens and other cultural markers among that class bracket.

    • @vixxcelacea2778
      @vixxcelacea2778 Před měsícem

@@ANPC-pi9vu Because no one wants to look poor. If you look presentable, you're treated better. You're more likely to be left alone and more likely to be hired for a job. You get to hide the fact that you might not be able to make rent next month. It's a pride and dignity thing. It's an insidious part about specifically 1st world poverty conditions. Though I've also seen it in other places too. People do not want to feel bottom of the rung and they will sacrifice a lot of more important areas to not feel the effect of social ostracization. Because ostracizing causes us to instinctually respond with concerns of death, because being cast out from a "tribe" usually meant exactly that. You can see this in child psychology, the first moments where embarrassment actually takes place. It's a deep seated fear of survival that drives people to not look like they lack resources, both for defense and social currency.
People admonish clout chasers, but that is exactly why they exist. It's a survival mechanism functioning in a industrialized wealthy condition. We all want approval from our peers because for thousands of years it meant survival. Kids feel this the most. Adults sometimes learn that it's not the case that if you trip and fall, your family won't abandon you to die, which is the response a child first has subconsciously when they feel embarrassment. We think we're worthless when we don't follow or live up to social standards like that. Cultures that have more extreme standards for perfection and conduct have it worse. This is part of why Asia's suicide rate is so high, especially among you guessed it, tweens and teens.

The cost of living has gone up and incomes are not enough to have vintage car hobbies.

Also, new cars increasingly have 'infotainment' panels that are an annoying distraction and now companies are trying to design subscription services into vehicles.
The only good car is a dumb car, Imo. Oh, and don't even get me started on how Obama era regulations led to the death of the light duty pickup truck. Now the only trucks are fat ass monstrosities, so the prices on older pickup models are skyrocketing.

So I have just a few brands I buy clothes for, one of them is Levi's, if I need to buy clothes, I buy up till that 10% from that savings. Ferrari works the same way. Doesn't matter who you are, how much money you have, or how into cars you are..... They will turn you away if trying to buy a new Ferrari, and they will reject your request to buy the newest limited-run models. They will point you to the used/certified pre-owned lot. Where a guy will sell you something to get you in the "Family". Basically the way it works is he chats with you for a bit, gets an overall feel of you, asks you a few questions and what you want in the future. He darts off to do a little of his own homework, when he comes back he will either take you to a section of the lot where you can pick (you don't want this) what you want, or if they feel you will be "Good" to the brand and come to events, he will present you with "a car" he tells you, you are buying this one (This is what you want, you are into the promise land) you at no point are compelled to buy it, but you have to understand, this is a test, that lasts between 1 and 5 years.
You pay for it, and you will be asked if you want to factory option it (about an additional $100k), you say yes, sign the paper work and come back in a few weeks to a month to organize delivery.
Depending on your behavior and willingness to cooperate with the brand, showing up to events (they take attendance), do your service at time intervals (doesn't matter if you have driven it) and be nice to the reps, staff, don't trash talk, if you have an issue with the car, no public stunts, trashing the brand, keep the car clean and conspicuous.
After you make it past their trial, you will get a phone call. This phone call will be fteindly, you will be informed they have a car for you.... you are expected to buy it. It may not be new, it may not be the latest, but it is a part of the process. After some time of this rinse process repeating, they will call and ask if you are willing to part ways with all or a few specific models you own. You don't have to if you really like them and have time to bring them to events. Later on you will get a phone call asking you if you want to get on the list for a few specific cars some rare , some new. You only put your name on what you are actually willing to instantly buy at full retail (with options). Time goes by, and you get that phone call for a car on your list. You buy it.
Then one day, you are "by invitation only allowed get a new rare model"
This is the literal embodiment of "Well call you, don't call us".
Over all this time (3 to 8 years) you have built a relationship with the reo, local dealer, and Ferrari corporate is fully aware of you. Corporate will invite you to finally come pick your colors, leather, options, wheels, nearly every darn little thing you can spec you can. It will feel like you are the Pope, British royalty, and the President of the United States at the same time. Now, you get to order any car you want at anytime m, the only limitation is rarity and production run, you have just purchased and passed the test to be a part of an extremely exclusive customer base.
I know it seems a bit much, but I understand it too, they aren't trying to sell millions of them, and they don't want to be on every street corner like a Toyota and a Honda. You have purchased exclusivity.
The other way to get in is to be extremely popular and liked by many around the globe.
You ever wonder why Jay Leno doesn't have a Ferrari? Because he has never gone through the process or shown that he will be good to the brand. Thus they have never extended him an invitation. The last thing they want is this guy trashing thier car on live T.V. on something stupid like coffe and cars. Also why a guy like Jeremy Clarkson has all the acess.

“The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.”

The R&D going into cars like Ferrari is bonkers and we are benefiting from it too, supercars and luxury cars are the cutting edge of development and that's where most innovation happens. Thanks to economies of scale it becomes cheaper with time and gets introduced to cheaper models until it becomes standard. Mercedes S class is a great example, it introduced fuel injection in 1958, Passenger safety cell with crumple zones in 1959, Anti-lock braking system ABS in 1978, Driver airbag and belt tensioner for front passenger in 1981, and the list goes on. If you want to know what regular cars will have in 10 years look at the S class.
That said, Ferrari are a bit full of themselves as a brand and take themselves too seriously. A good example would be what happened to Deadmouse's Purrari. Also Ferraris were cooler with manual gated shifters. Currently only Porsche is keeping the high-performance cars with manual alive and I salute them.

If brands give me good quality that will last for a long time, then yes, I will buy it.

The only designer products worth purchasing are fragrances, if you're into them. Now there are awesome fragrances that cost $40.00 and there are others that smell like ass that cost $150.00. It's up to you to do you research and determine what you're looking for and what you need, but fragrances are worth it in my opinion due to the uniqueness those type of products can offer.

I don't know what she's on about, they're not targeting the poor with these items, in fact most of the designer brands don't like to be associated with people who can't really afford the items as evidenced by the facts in this video. It dilutes the brand. The fact that poor people go broke to buy above their means is just human nature. It's been happening for as long as people have been able to do it. There are some brands that target the poor but they're not designer brands that cost thousands or tens of thousands per item. They're selling 60 dollar t-shirts with big logos on them.

I have a 1967 made with the original cone mills denim levi’s denim jacket. It was the original denim jackets worn by rebels and freaks in the late 60’s. I love this jacket and I have owned it for 10 years. I take care of it and wear it when I feel like enjoying it. It was expensive, but it’s high quality so I have owned it for a long time, and I am happy I bought it. When thinking about clothes buy something that has meaning to you if you want to spend a lot or get something of quality.

I bought a real leather coach purse 6 years ago, still use it all the time. Since I've taken good care of it, I haven't had to buy another one and shouldn't have to buy another one. It was 350 dollars on sale during Black Friday. There is value in quality, expensive products. Kind of the same as earbuds. My mom would buy $7 earbuds from the library. They would last MAYBE a month, and then she would have to buy another pair. She did this for a few years before I convinced her to buy a single pair of $50 ear buds, they lasted 3 years. Single use products and cheap quality products are the opposite side of this same coin.

A lot of rich people are actually frugal (not Asmon frugal, but still) and that's partially why they're still rich. I agree that it's mostly middle class morons who spend outside their means to get this trash.

.10:00 it's a bit more complicated than that, when you're very rich it's just not very class to show the brand you're wearing but often they still wear designer brand clothes where the brand doesn't show

I second the "Don't "we" me on this shit".
I have made my own leather items. It takes good materials and many hours. But the end price should be between 300 to 700 euros/dollars. 4,000 is a rip-off.
