The new Bose Quietcomfort Ultra Earbuds and the newest Apple AirPods Pro 2 are two of the best earbuds on the market. They rank #1 and #2 overall with the best Active noise cancellation, they have great sound quality, great features, and command a premium price. So how do these two actually stack up, and which one deserves a spot in your ears? Well in this video, I’ll break down the similarities and differences between these two earbuds in seven categories with actual test results to determine which pair of earbuds is the better buy.

    ADDITIONAL VIDEO NOTES:
    1. Active Noise Cancellation
    Test results
    Airplane
    Crowd
    Female voice
Wind - I am working on a way to quantify this. Subjectively, Bose did a better job with wind
Bose has 11 levels between transparency and ANC but can never turn off
    AirPods only have ANC/off/Transparency
Both have adaptive transparency with dB threshold, but Bose has a lower threshold
    2. MIC TEST
So we are tied 1:1 and honestly, both are pretty solid so far. But what about the audio quality?
    3. AUDIO QUALITY
    4. BATTERY
Bose battery = 6/24hrs WITH ANC - 4/16 with immersive
AirPods battery = 6/30hrs, but about 4.5/24 with ANC
    5. FEATURES
AirPods Find My. You can find the Bose case, but won’t use UWB
    AirPods have a case speaker
Bose works well with android or apple
    Both have mono mode
Neither has multipoint, but AirPods sort of do for apple products only, Bose has app switching. AirPods switching is now faster with update
Tap and swipe controls vs Pinch and swipe
EarScan for 360 audio in AirPods
    Spatial audio vs immersion mode
AirPods have adaptive audio that can adjust based on you
Bose plays calibration sound for each ear
    Bose has “modes”
AirPods are getting a mute gesture
    AirPods are getting conversational awareness
Works well with all devices vs only really apple devices
    Has an app
    6. DESIGN
Bose case has no wireless charging
AirPods case can charge qi, magsafe, apple watch, or USB-C
AirPods are IP54 in buds and case, Bose are just IPX4
AirPods are smaller with smaller case
    AirPods have lanyard hook
Both are comfortable, and both eventually fall out of my left ear
Bose has wing tip, so more secure
AirPods are smaller though and have an XS tip added this time
Bose has additional eartip sizes for purchase
    AirPods have skin detection

I have both. Long story but one was a gift. The Bose just has a bigger, fuller sound and way way better ANC. If you’re at a gym, you won’t hear a thing. Call quality is far less superior than the AirPods Pro 2. If you do a ton of calls, get the AirPods. If you value the synchronization with the Apple world, get the AirPods. Actually, the mid-range is also crisp and better than the Bose too. AirPods do loosen and change position more depending upon your ear type. If you value silencing out the world, better overall sound quality with heavy bass, and overall a better fit - get the Bose

Up front, I've been a bose fan for 50 years, but that was speakers and headphones. I've been using apple earpods for quite a few years now. Yesterday, I decided to buy a pair of the bose ultras and I love them. Using the finger touch controls are more intuitive and the bose music app is great. You can even put favorite settings in. I haven't experienced the static problem in the left ear bud, but then I wasn't listening for it. In this case, Bose is the better choice, at least for me.

Very interesting thanks. I have ordered the Bose, because I like the more bass sound that I enjoy with the first generation QC and I do a lot of travelling. Also the 1st generation QCs were not always comfortable and could dislodge and fall out if walking. Therefore for me tightness and sound are the priorities.

I love my AirPods. But since they started doing the hissing noise when I do transparency or noise cancellation, I’ve been annoyed and find myself using them less. Granted it’s not the second gen. But I like noise cancellation. It was a decision of the Bose ultra or second gen AirPods.I figured I’d try Bose and see how they are.

I have QC earbuds 2, and two things that really annoy me are:
    1. Static noise when no music is playing. I especially notice it when I'm studying and listening to the piano, and in between tracks, the silence is filled with that annoying static noise.
    2. Connectivity issue: sometimes, for no reason, the earbuds disconnect. It happens rarely, but when it does, it isn't enjoyable because it takes a minute or two to reconnect. And no, putting it in case doesn't fix it.
Besides these two flaws, I really don't see any other issue. Overall, I love these earbuds because of their sound quality, aesthetics, and functionality.
It would be worth buying the earbuds when they're on sale and not at MSRP.

I'd say the QC Ultra looks better in ear due to the flat surface making swiping gesture a bit easier compared to Apple's rounded stem. Recently bought the QC2s coming from AP1... Apart from having better ANC, I have to say I enjoy the sound quality of the QC2s better due to its richer bass and in-app equalizer to which isn't available in Apple. I agree with you that in making calls, Apple has a better mic.. call quality is just better with Apple.

I got a replacement set of QC Ultra coming in from BOSE as a replacement option. If those crap out after 6mo I may be done with BOSE then. 1. Apple really only works well with Apple. If you are ever going to connect to anything else, go with the Bose.
    2. I recently used the airpod pros and I was impressed with the noise cancellation. I was very surprised that there's no option to change the sound profile. Apple has to use a very generic sound profile to accommodate multiple types of music and it would never sound great for any of them. At least Bose has an equalizer.
    3. Many years ago someone mentioned that air pods looked like a bird pooped on your ear and it was running down your face. The pros are better because they are shorter but I can't get past that thought. The air pods will never look good to me because of it. Lol
    4. The Bose may look better, perform better overall, and have better noise cancellation but I will tell you that I was incredibly surprised how easy it was to feel like I got a good fit with the air pods. I put it in my ear and it was right. I didn't have to play around with it.

I cant keep AirPods in my ear. I’ve had every version of the pro and regular AirPods. I have the original Quietcomfort earbuds and they have good sound, ok noise canceling(I usually switch to my Quiet Comfort headphones on a plane) and they stay in my ear. Noise canceling is really only needed, for me, on a plane and I’ll probably just buy the QC Ultra after I see a few more reviews. Biggest concern for me will be the weight. If the new QC is lighter than the QC Ultra I’ll probably update to the QC. Microphone are not a consideration for me in 98% of my use

I think you have a messed up left ear lol. I've been using Bose for many years (older model QC) and I loved them, but after a while the bass effect can kind of give you a headache. It's cool(er) momentarily, but it can feel unnatural to have that much bass in your earbuds and ask yourself "if I want bass, I should be in a car or speakers". I wish airpods came in black, but interested in switching over for the 2nd gens based on having an iphone.
I will say one thing you should cover is the ventalization. I read that airpods is substantially better here and Bose doesn't offer, therefore it's a lot of pressure on your airs with Bose and I can attest to this. I love them, they sound great, they are great with the slide features to change volume/song, but overall that's a huge deal. It'll hurt if they're in for too long.

      100%
      These are noise cancelling earbuds.
They are better in anc by a mile. Their sound is more full bodied and not muffled. And you can tweak them. These are the basic necessity for a noise cancelling earbuds.
Transparency is still pretty decent and in quiet environment, their calls are fine.
      It's comfortable and stable.
Wireless charging is meh, it is convenient but not a dealbreaker.
Multipoint is probably the biggest miss. I don't use multiple devices, but i can imagine those who wfh have 2 laptops, a mobile and maybe a tablet. So it'll be nice to swap around.

You can buy bose without worrying if it breaks... that is why I will always stick with bose... If the apple product fails, good luck with that.. I have both but the airpods always have to stay home and not being used. my problem with wirpods is the I always accidental press whenever I take them out. or when i hold them.. while bose, i had no issue when I change volume or take them out from my ears without ending the call.. They do look better also in my opinion.. plus airpods have tons of fakes!!!
