Samsung S95D OLED First Look | Way Better Than You Think

- Folks passing judgement on the Samsung S95D OLED TV may be getting ahead of themselves. Based on what I'm seeing, the anti-glare filter on Samsung's flagship 4K OLED TV is all benefit, no drawbacks. Forget what you think you know about what anti-glare treatments does to picture quality, because this TV doesn't follow the rules.
Oh, and as a bonus: Samsung is tossing in a free 65-inch TV to anyone who pre-orders the S95D within the first three weeks of its coming out, links below.

Hey everyone! Just want to make it clear that this TV will get the full treatment in the review (which, at the risk of over-repeating myself, this video is not). I wish you guys could see how brutal we were with the lighting in this video. - or more to the point, I wish you could see how our brutal lightning techniques would have made other TVs un-viewable in comparison. I think that’s something we will show in our review, which will require the purchase of at least one new studio light. 😂😂😂
Caleb, the issue is that matte coating tends to spread the reflection over a larger area. I think the people who are worried about this (including me) are not worried about big studio lights or sunlight. Someone watching in those conditions obviously wouldn’t be able to watch a conventional glossy OLED. Instead, we are worried about small lights in an otherwise dark room. These are _usually _ not an issue already for glossy panels. Please show a comparison in that scenario
Even in the video I could kind of see the issue many of us have with anti-glare in general... Like fully. Like at 6:46 it's very apparent.
I have to say, this video, with its promotion....makes me weary that you were paid off to say all this. I'll reserve judgement until these are in person. And I don't see an issue with side-by-side comparison in a home setting (vs stores). If one is perceiveably better...why shouldn't an individual deem it to be superior?
@@vancitycanucks I agree. Caleb, I choose to believe that you’re just being passionate about the subject, but to be honest it truly gives the impression that you’re giving Samsung some kind of special treatment here.
you need to put it right next to an s95c or s90d with the menu hacked to unlock s95d brightness and show normal viewing (i.e. standard circumstances) to see the differences in appearance. people say this does not matter but it does, it shows clearly what is lost
@@vancitycanucks Caleb is not paid, but he goes out of his way not to slag companies publicly to maintain good relations and access.
Make sure to check out our full review of the Samsung S95D: czcams.com/video/Jvm2HO20P6Q/video.html
Have this in my store showroom already setup next to last year’s s95C both 77”. There’s no way when you see both side by side you’d say the anti glare hurts the tv in any real way and for those stray lights, lamps, smart speakers or whatever that happen to bounce off a glossy screen? You’ll never worry again. Black is still black.

this tv has near 0 reflections of any kind (sunlight, pod lights, flash light, lamp) I tested it in the store I work at.
@@mannyk6808 hmmmm, interesting. On Caleb’s footage it seems like the are spread out reflections when looking at an angle
@@andre_ss6I agree!
@@andre_ss6that’s likely a camera processing phenomenon.
I would suggest you see the display tech comparo of Samsung S24 Ultra vs S23 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro Max side by side. You will see how much brilliant S24 Ultra display is with that Anti reflection coating even in direct scorching sunlight.
It is brilliant tech which Samsung has bought it to the TV business soo fast. Bravo Samsung.
I'm still using my s95b, and samung continuing to improve is awesome
what is the improvement in the S95B?
I think he's referring to the newer TV's improving.
The S95B is still beautiful
Hi Caleb,
I'm watching from Hungary. I really enjoy your videos and these help us a lot with buying great TVs. Thank You for that! I think I'm not alone with the opinion that design matters a lot when these TVs are basiccally in the center of our living area (Like we all see the success of the Samsung Frame for example). I know it is very subjective, but can we get some footage and your opinion around this design topic in the future tests? Maybe the look of the wall mounted TVs (I know it's a lot of plus work)? Samsung's Neo QLED and OLED TVs are really elegant in my opinion and this is a big plus in comparison with Hisense and TCL. I'd love to see the design as part of the competition between the brands.
Thank You the great work and keep doing it!
Great video! Would love a deep dive of this, and even a somewhat comparison between S95D and S95C, OR maybe just the highlight differences, thanks!
D seems to have raised black in dark room viewing
Looks and sounds amazing. Thank you so much, Caleb!! ❤
I bought this tv on Friday the day it went on sale from Best Buy. It arrived today. Like he said, the picture is phenomenal! The matte screen produces no issues. The picture quality it supers but the matte screen makes the blacks look even blacker (somehow)! There was a point when I was watching this and Caleb’s skin looks so real like it had texture. I’m so happy but I’ve only had it for 5 hours…

@@BarryDeiter @tahseenkarim I'm loving it. The Picture seems just as sharp, the sound is great for me for such a thin tv. I have a sound bar but at night I switch to tv speakers when im going to sleep. The one issue I had was it had a stuck pixel about 2 weeks ago, but I ran the screen maintenance settings over night and its gone. Hasn't popped up since. Also this tv works great for my situation because i have floor to ceiling windows on the same side of the tv so my space would would get very bright. I havent had to close my curtains or adjust tv brightness since i bought this tv and its always on the energy settings. Lastly, the game mode is great for FPS games with the dot. It also has some other features which is cool but i dont use like sending a mini map view to another device like a phone or table for a bigger view of it. You have to sign up for smart things and I'm not doing that. I hope this helped. I'm still waiting for Caleb's actual review.
@@tahseenkarim I'm not sure if you were tagged but i replied below.
In 2014 I bought the Samsung 65" Curve for our new home because our Family or Great Room has three windows & a glass insert for the door, plus no fourth wall (open floor plan to our kitchen & beyond). Then to add to that, there's a ceiling with six recessed lights. Now to cap our room off, it faces South. While the Curve does well here, the set lacks new technology being ten years old. Based on your initial comments, this S95D OLED may just be the answer to the Curve and therefore an upgrade consideration. I'm sure the price will match the quality and I'll have to wait for a sale to bring it home. Buying a new TV is like buying a new car, as soon as you get home, you'll read about the "next thing" coming out...
Another great video. But I’m hoping you get some time with their Samsung 98” model. Hoping they come out with an improved model this year.
S95D 77” will be my next living room TV 😎
Good video Caleb, Samsung are leading the way with OLED, never thought I'd say that. Are we just about at the end for brightness improvements, or can we expect this to go on for years, soon we'll be needing sunglasses to watch the TV.
Still has my s95b n loving it
Amazing thank you!
Day 3 of Samsung First Look - S95D 4K QD-OLED TV! Per this video, the anti-glare implementation is amazing and this is the brightest QD-OLED TV to date! The picture does look really, really great, with good contrast, brightness and color luminance, but I would have to check out that anti-glare in person because I think I did see a small smear (dispersal of light) in the upper middle right side of the screen when showing some scenes with a dark background. Also, once at the top of the screen. It’s a different type of glare, more muted but it kind of smears a little. It is definitely way better than other anti-glare technologies. It would likely be great for a bright room but I don’t know if I would prefer it to the more traditional glossy screen in a light controlled room. In any event, this TV looks really great and I am thoroughly enjoying these daily first looks! Great job, Caleb!
So you won't wait for Sony A95M?
Did you have moth-eye screen before? If it is like that one was, then it will look better than anything for anyone who does not actually enjoy dim light and would rather see in reasonably normal light. My TV looked like low res no-HDR OLED thanks to moth-eye alone because moth eyed seemed like it added contrast.
Wow Samsung are certainly hitting hard this year. I’ll wait for your full hands on review before I make my decision on which new TV.
Hi ! Does abl only affect white brightness or does it also affect colors in large areas of brightness ?
I already ordered one last week. The free 65" TV showed up right away. The S95D will be here Monday. Thanks for making me feel like I haven't made a terrible mistake.
The free TV is a TU690T. A really low end model. Giving it to my mom.
What is the free 65” TV? Model number? Is it oled, mini led, or led?
it's a 400 dollar budget samsung , TU series , not oled or mini led@@ryanhare2951

Beautiful TV I would love to have either this Samsung or the 95 series Sony I am old but I still love gaming and both looks like they would be the perfect TVs
I like to see a comparison between last year’s C and the D model in low light condition to see if the D model has raised black.
The S95D is so noble😍, i must have!!
Great first look of the S95D Caleb, can we check if you have any news about the upcoming 2024 Sony and LG TVs? Can't wait to compare all 3 before deciding.

@digitaltrends any plans for a full review of the LG G4 soon (hopefully 83" since this is that size's first year woth MLA)?
@jackalclone1 the G4 isn't out yet... tv has to be released to review it..
@mannyk6808 hence "any plans." LG was supposed to be shipping reviewers copies toward the middle/end of this month last I knew.
Worth changing from Lg 65c2 to this or wait a few years more, for even more improvements?
I have a S24 Ultra which also has a new anti reflective screen and it elevated the screen to new heights, more than any brightness bump could have done. If it's the same here I'm buying
good information, friend I have a question what kind of panel does this smart tv QNC85 65 IPS, ADS OR VA have? COULD I CLEAR THIS DOUBT AND THANK YOU
Best channel for tv talk ,you explain things well
He does not and he's lying. God knows how much Samsung is paying them, it's a whole ad. Use your damn eyes, see things side by side.
Yep. This and HDTVTEST are by far the
best tv channels who fully explains everything.
Question: why doesn't the S95D mention Quantum Dots or QD-OLED anywhere on its product page? The S95C does.
Great video I like the video
I have S95B and S90C and love them both
Of course, I just bought a s90c 77 inch 3 weeks ago. The D series sounds like a big upgrade from the C. If I didnt get such a great price on the S90c, (2K) I think I would have some buyers remorse. Looking forward to your review!
That's on you. These were announced a while back, and even if they weren't, LG and Samsung always release the new models around this time.
77 inch of 2K, I would buy that in a flinch even for S90c. It costs $4500 here in India for the 77 inch Model. Good buy mate.
I wish they offered this without a OneConnect box. The S90D will have to be my choice this year, unfortunately the 77" isn't available for preorder so no free tv for me.
For me the gloss on g3 looked better, sure you could see some reflections, but that was a real none issue because your eyes adjusted and often ignored the highlight reflections, the big issue is the super low 300 lumins at 100% maybe I’m 90d bias , since I can see a blue shift in whites which I really don’t like
I really love this TV. For me the main reason I considered it was the anti glare matte screen. It works amazingly well. Our tv was almost impossible to use during daylight hours and we had a lot of glare from lights in the evening as well. No problems at all daytime watching and we basically have all windows opposite the tv. We had recently taken down all of our blinds during a window and sliding door replacement and we decided not to put the blinds back up because the room looked so much better without them. When we had the blinds down during the day it helped but without them like I said nearly impossible to watch enjoyably. No issue at all though now with the new tv. From others comments it sounds like they might be missing the mark on some expected features but none of those things were important to me. The display looks amazing and the anti glare works way beyond what I expected I was hoping for a decrease but honestly it is 95% gone in my viewing environment.
Can we have a comparison of the new TVs to last years Sony 95l
Great video. Truely mind blowing tech and i am so excited for this in office and bedrm. but will qdoled or even Woled be sized up to at least 85-90 inches??? I want that size for the main living room. I know about LG oled 98’. it’s out of reach for me in price. i need a 12-1500$ 90-100 inch oled. even better if sony can get that panel, add all thier goodies and retail it at 14-15K$ MAX!
Hey Caleb, can you tell us if the S95D Gen 3 panel beats the Sony A95L Gen 2 one?
Great question
Have they fixed the flickering you get with variable refresh rate yet? Because this is the only thing holding me back from getting an OLED
Great preview! Interested to see if they expanded the S95D to full 48Gbps bandwidth 2.1 HDMI through the One Connect Box as the s95c capped out at 40Gbps. Please let us know in the full review! 😎
You don’t need 48gbps! That’s for 8K60 HDR OR! 12-BiT colour just a heads up!
What about for PC gaming at 4K 144hz VRR, with 10bit color 4:4:4 RGB?
@@AlexGlrzwhat about it? You need 39.19GBPS for said resolution at said refresh rate! Well within the 40GBPS cap! I look at HDMI bandwidth charts quite frequently and would gladly post a link to show you you’re wrong for thinking 48GBPS is needed but of course this is CZcams so I can’t do that but look it up! The info is easily available!
Good to know!
Seems great :), maybe my future TV, someday (paired with a PS5pro (disc version) (if it support Dolby Vision)
I just ordered one. The launching price promotion in Canada makes no sense : 4100 CAD for a 77'' being equivalent 3000USD (at the time of this video). Am I missing something? It's about the same price as the S90C or C3!
Looking very handsome. I mean you ALWAYS look handsome. Great video by the way.
No Diddy 😂
Daddy chill
Yup. Definitely handsome.

any haloing effect around bright objects?
Now if they could make it in an 83” and 97” size that would be awesome!
How does this compare with the A95L?
Can you please hook it up to a receiver enable CEC and see if it turns on the receiver with the TV remote. Because I have 95B and Yamaha 2050 and it switches the receiver on after 2 minutes by then the TV has changed the sound to TV speakers . The only workaround I've found is switching on the receiver first and then the tv... which is troublesome.
When that new VCR come out?
hopefully these dont warp like the s95b. We had one for 12 hours and it looked awesome but we returned it because we noticed it was warped, like really badly
where is that stand from?
Honestly happiest about 300 nits full screen white
Don't see any need to upgrade from the S95C this year especially with the new coating.
Hi Caleb, I am thinking about purchasing a projector to replace my TV. I game quite a bit on console but also enjoy watching movies and enjoy a good quality picture. What projector would you recommend? Also, I have noticed that most projectors (under $5k) don't have HDMI 2.1 even though many of them claim to hit 240hz and have low input lag. Is this because projectors are different from TV's when it comes to gaming performance without having HDMI 2.1 or are they just pulling a good old marketing scheme with their "low input lag" claims? Even a projector such as the BenQ 3000i,which is supposed to be the best gaming projector, doesn't have HDMI 2.1. So I'm a bit confused here.
Thank you very much and I hope you can respond!
Any effect that framerate has on input latency is separate from that introduced by a display device. Just make sure you know the input latency of the projector itself.
We need to know if the box dropouts have been fixed 😩
Will this be available in 83”? Also would you pick this or LG G4? Getting ready to buy an 83”. Thanks
Samsung and Sony don't make 83 inch qdoled. For flagship oled at 83 inch G4 is the only option
Sadly this won't be available in 83.
Great video but i couldn't take my eyes off the media center's doors 😬 the doors on the left really need some TLC @ 3:05
Interesting LG makes a coating that makes the tv brighter, MLA. Samsung respods with a matt black screen which one would think one would decrease brighteness.
I think its a massive step up from S95B(i own one) better brightness, glare free,i just hope they not gonna put brightness down like they did with s95😜
I think its a awesome tv✌️
Its a big step on paper. In daily use you will barely notice any difference.
@@BaSiC47 yeah its possible✌️
1750 peak brightness is crazy for an OLED!
This is what I needed to know. It’s the colors that sell me on a tv. I’m buying a S95D over the G4.
What does the screen look like when it’s off? It’s always bothered me that QD-OLED has those purple/pink reflections compared to WOLED. Does the anti-glare coating make the screen look more “black”?
Is the beeing most accurate in Warm 1 setting a new thing this year, or does this also apply to previous generations?
To the best of my recollection, this is a new development, and not the case for prior gen
I have a s90c and warm 2 is the most accurate when gaming. Not sure about filmmaker mode. But you should adjust other settings as well if you really want accurate.
If you can compare it to philips's moth-eye screen, then I will be astonished! :) I have one till today as no other TV technology did antireflection as well as moth-eye. I keep my fingers crossed for this one.
I am considering buying this or last years Sony QD Oled to replace my Samsung Plasma, any thoughts and suggestions? I am in UK.
should i get this or S90C?
Plz review Samsung qn 800D 75inch
This guy is genuinely excited.
This guy always gets excited about any tv he previews/reviews any year. last year he was excited same way about s95c, next year it'll be s95e. have you ever seen him be a critic or tell people not to buy a tv? he comes off more like a tv manufacturer hired PR rep/marketing agent.

For now I think I'm gonna buy the Sony X95L.
You realize the X95L is just as expensive?
@@absolutelyn0thing390not that I can tell. The x95l is last years tv.
While the S95D is this year's and will most likely be twice there price at least.
Is dolby vision still a thing in 2024? Should i avoid samsung because of no dolby vision support?
Sounds like its better than the a95l?
Which one is better for gaming Samsung S95D or LG G4 😮💨🤔
I want the 3rd gen panel-can one get it via the S90D?
What samsung s95D has for cinematic movement??
im tossing between Neo QLED 90d + S95D . Leaning towards s95D when price comes down a bit .
Love the new anti-reflective screen. Hopefully other companies will follow suit on that soon as well. But that One Connect box is still enough to get a lot of customers to say "Pass" on that TV. Should that model of TV really had the One Connect box? Probably not. That's going to turn a lot of potential buyers off fast.
How does it compare to Bravia 9 in terms of color brightness and upscaling? How does it compare to A95L?
I've always hated Samsung's anti-glare tech mut this matte screen might actually work for my living room. Perhaps QD-OLED's raised blacks are reduced too? Though Samsung still has Tizen and no Dolby Vision...
When did Samsung start doing oled tvs?
I don't mind matte TVs. It's only with monitors it gets annoying, the image gets softer and you can see the texture of the coating
I mean im buying the LG G4 or the A95L, but to the people concerned about the anti-glare. You guys must not own monitors because 95% of monitors have antiglare screens and they look super sharp! I prefer over glossy.
I have the samsung s24 ultra phone and that has an anti glare coating on it too
What about motion? Don’t like soap opera effect.
Also curious about
Gaming
Dolby vision
Most natural looking and close to intended picture. Samsung phones are known for oversaturations
Total quality and lifespan expectations
Connections and connections speed
Waiting for total review
End of this year want to replace my c7 for maybe lg g series but always good to see others. Sony looks good too but expensive and not much hdmi2.1 connections.
Sounds like the non-reflective Gorilla Glass Armor on the S24 Ultra. I guess "they" have finally figured out the whole glare thing. Cooool :D
Dimensions of new one connect box?
First comment: BUT NO DOLBY VISION 😢😢😢
So tedious. Dolby Vision is nowhere near as important as some people seem to think it is
Any idea what the technology behind this anti-glare tech is? Is it something you expect to see in other Samsung models or from competitors? I currently have a Samsung QLED that is a few years old and I HATE the Tizen OS. It is not quick and is often glitchy. I have an extremely bright room, so I would be very interested in something with great anti-glare, but it would be hard for me to stay with Samsung simply because of the OS.
You are wasting your money by viewing an OLED is an extremely bright room, or even in a moderately bright room.
Please cover blackouts/ signal drops on ps5 gaming. It was rampant on the earlier models and that's held me back from buying
Overally, I would say new Oled buyers will have a wow experience 100% with this s95d
I just like how massive Samsung discounts are... So will wait
If I had another oled, I would certainly wait until they bring the flagship processor and upscaler to their oled and I think that's were samsung made a mistake for me but obviously can't say. For me they shud have matched AI processor power to compete with LG new A11, but then Samsung is a QD Oled and also we don't know how the panel lottery goes with their tvs.
Wait isnt the s90D going to have a mix of QD OLED and WOLED panels why arent reviewers mentioning this its criminal
Yea that's weird. I wouldn't even risk my money that way if it's true. I hope they clarify because the g4 was already on my sights.
The S90D is the step-down model. The flagship S95D will only have QD-OLED panels.
@@mortalterminus ino but the s90c had only QD oled panels so may people would end up with a downgraded panel if they upgraded and they would have no idea why as Samsung is not being transparent at all about this, you should know what your buying.
42, 48, and 83 sized S90C will be Woled still.
@@MapleMaestro those sizes will be only Woled buy other sizes will be a mix of both panels so it's a lottery as to which you will get.
Now i would love to know if...
1. they fixed the one connect box issues
2. they will stop degrading the tvs with software updates
#1 is the biggest reason I didn't get the s95c
Those plus:
#3 color calibration in filmmaker modes looking better
#4 built-in audio being much better it was terrible last year (yes I know many use soundbars or home theaters).
the S95C was never degraded with any software updates so far. Infact for last year models (C models), all of the updates so far is just for bug fixes and general UI changes. None had changed the image quality
I've had the 55" S95D from Best Buy since last week. Connected to a RTX 4090 gaming PC no connection issues for me with the one connect and playing games.
3. Dolby Vision.
Just unplug it from the internet so not get firmware update that nerf or destroy the tv, next year gonna get a new processor plus again a brightness boost heard around 3700 nits heard from Samsung display
Lets see what Sony do with this panel, if the A95L was the best TV ever made, the A95M is likely to be even better. I'd be interested to know how this S95D handles upscaling of lower resolution video, which was a problem for its predecessor
In aware lights most be very bright in this studio , but this is not helping me appreciate this Tv , because I’m hearing “the anti glare is no issue”
While simultaneously I’m watching all the effects from matte panels that I hate on each dark scene.
Maybe a glossy one would look worse with this lighting conditions and that would make me realize the advantages , but in this video I’m watching the hroribgul white diffused lighting matte causes
I hope Sony doesn't follow the matte trend and opts for at least a glossy one. I wonder if Philips will carry the MLA2, adding its Vanta Black...🤤
Eww Phillips…
I would appreciate subpixel macro shot, so I can be sure there is no loss of quality.
Finally, Caleb seems to be returning to his original form and classic style. Refreshing. When he says 'phenomenal' unconditionally, I know it' s a sure winner and buy for me. The problem is I already own S95C, wish I waited for the D series model. 😢

if they completely fixed the stutter issue on each new frame, along with all the other improvements particularly that anti-glare.. then this is a good tv, but its still samsung so software bugs/glitches as well as samsung qc remains to be seen.. makes it very hard to buy out of the gate. there's also still no indication whether or not you're getting a woled or qd oled panel, how frustrating
That's only with D90 series crazy how the threat customer with this strategy to sell woled in it
I would suggest you see the display tech comparo of Samsung S24 Ultra vs S23 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro Max side by side. You will see how much brilliant S24 Ultra display is with that Anti reflection coating even in direct scorching sunlight.
It is brilliant tech which Samsung has bought it to the TV business soo fast. Bravo Samsung.
I got one 3 days back. High brightness and matte finish make it exceptional in daytime use.
I don't really like it. I set one up at work near an 83 c3 and the blacks just look so much deeper cause of the gloss on the c3. It's not heaps but I can notice it. The anti glare is pretty cool but I think it's kinda yucky tbh.
Will they ever make it larger than 77”? Have a C2 84” in a bright room, this looks perfect, but smaller 😢
Eventually, but unfortunately not yet. Samsung only manufactures their QDOLED panels in 55", 65", and 77" along with some smaller PC monitor sizes for now
Does anyone have any recommendation for a calibrator in the Los Angeles area? For the S95D
