  • An overview of the YM2149 Synth from Catskull Electronics, a 3 channel, MIDI controlled synth that uses the same Yamaha soundchip as an Atari ST.
The soundchip was produced under license by General Instrument who used a previous variation (AY-3-8910) in 1980s arcade games, pinball machines and home computers such as the ZX Spectrum.

Nice job on the video dude, we'd be friends in real life for sure. Chip forever! Surprised your channel doesn't have more of a following. Nice tune as well.

Great video! Keep doing so good content like this. I have always in mind to develop a synth based on the SN76489. I love PSG sound chips, 😍

Thank you. I'm a fan of the demo videos of your DAFM I've seen on Instagram, it looks like a really cool synth.

wow your intro sound sequence is great. was it multiple recordings merged, so drums and melo as seperate parts or all at once? also how do you actually sythesize drums on this thing or is it samples played back?

Thanks. It's separate parts all recorded. It can play a few channels at once (two pulse and one noise if I remember right, as it's been a while). However, it's a lot cleaner recording and mixing separately. For drums I will have used the noise channel for hats and snare, and pitch manipulated one of the wavs (square I think) for the kick.

What is that „SOFTWAVE“? an additional oscillator provided by teensy?
