    FOR THE AVERAGE TECHNICIAN / MECHANIC A CAN PROBLEM CAN BE VERY STRESSING ESPECIALLY WITH NO TRAINING . ONLY SAYING GOING FOR THE FIVE VOLT REFERENCE SIGNAL WOULD OF MOST LIKELY BEEN AN EXPERIENCED TECH MOVE . THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME LOOKING FORWARD TO LEARNING MUCH MORE !

      Thank you for your comment. I have been stung in the past panicking why the scan tool wouldn't comm. 5v ref is very quick but essential check

    I suggest doing a capacitive discharge of the car battery before changing out parts. Disconnect both battery terminals, starting with the ground - (negative), connect both connection leads with a jumper wire for at 1 minute. Reconnect both battery terminals, hopefully that helps.
    That worked with my car!

    The Actual Air mass has a % percentage sign after it LOOK - and it’s at 100%. The requested isn’t a percentage - they aren’t supposed to be the same!!

      Clean contact connections on battery terminals or maybe check your fuses… if not then it might be ripped cable…. But I’d check fuses and battery terminals

      Probably a fuse that’s about to blow faulty fuse

    got no computer to check things. Working outside in mud and cold so hoping to narrow down fast....... Have similar issues 2003 beetle TDI out of the blue no crank. What other fusees may cause this 5v no reference. Did I hear right, the one he found bad in this one was Fan? What fan? Engine fans or heater fans?

      were you able to narrow it down and fix the issue ? i am in the same boat

      @@TL.... turned out to be the wire to starter. the one the ignition switch triggers to activate starter. It connects the solenoid on top with a large black plastic plug. On mine a single wire. The wire brake away under some tape from previous owners past repair on the same wire. Hope that helps you.
      ps- had to remove battery and tray .... only then did the issue become discoverable.

      @@coachgeo i have an 01 jetta and on my fuse box on the left side of the steering wheel, fuse number 28 which is supposed to be for the fuel pump, according to the diagrams, there is no fuse there, and when testing for power it shows none as if theres no wires in the back that would normally go to a fuse , is this normal ?

    • @coachgeo
      @coachgeo Před rokem

      @@TL.... find a diagram that has more detail... such as in a more detailed description it may say.. "except in diesel models" etc. it may be that the diesel model may not use a pump in the tank. Plenty diesel vehicles do not have electric fuel pumps so that may be the case.

    Is that 5 volts reference check 100 % equal to good/ bad ECU supply check ?

    • @CANDiagnostic
      @CANDiagnostic  Před 4 lety

      I'm not quite sure what you mean. No 5v ref does not necessarily mean the ecu is faulty many things can cause it like in this case the broken wire popped a fuse.

    • @soptea
      @soptea Před 4 lety +1

      czcams.com/video/0PFfp_3NF1o/video.html 1:44 What is the point of 5 v check if you are going to check the fuses anyway ,no matter what the result is .Sorry if I look too picky ,but I think that logical process to the fault and cause of fault to be short ,fast and clear as possible.You ve missed one step from a perfect video , no big deal :)

    • @natepeterson7145
      @natepeterson7145 Před 4 lety +2

      @@soptea he wouldn't have to check the fuse if he had the 5 volts and if he didn't have the bad fuse after not having the 5 volts he would have to check the ecu .
