  • Unboxing and set up of Dexley mesh office chair purchased from Staples here in Canada. I needed a new chair due to having to give up a chair to our son for his remote school work and our other chair starting to fail. I wanted a comfortable chair with mesh fabric to help keep cool in the warm office.
    It can be hard to find computer chairs to try out right now but I found one I liked at Staples and it was out of stock. The store then got one in and I grabbed it as quick as I could.
    It has been almost a week since I purchased the chair and I am finding it to be great task chair to use for a full workday. Definitely recommended so far!

    I was looking at this chair this morning. It was just a touch too large for me, especially in the seat length. I ended up with the Hyken instead. I left the head rest off of it because it was just a bit too low even in its highest setting. If the Dexley feels like you are swimming in it then the Hyken might be a good choice to look at as well.

    You should look into rollerblade wheels for your chairs, works on carpet. Also way less noise than the stock plastic casters.

    I’ve been considering getting one of these chairs for a while now. Is the upper part of the back rest curved so that it moves your shoulders forward when sitting back or are you able to keep them in a neutral position. Also how tall are you? I’m worried the headrest may not be high enough for me. Thanks for the video.

    • @BGRFamily
      @BGRFamily  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks for the questions. I was concerned about the back rest pushing the shoulders forward too, that is why I didn't go with a gaming type chair - there are no issues at all with my shoulders being hunched forward.
      I am 6'2" - The headrest only really comes into play for me when I lean back. I use the head rest at its max height and have to tilt it slightly (tilt bottom forward) to make sure it aligns with my head and not my neck when I lean back. I can't say for sure, but an inch or two taller than me could make the head rest of no use.

    • @BGRFamily
      @BGRFamily  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching! No issues with the mesh sagging at all - still very supportive. Some of the plastic parts do have some squeaks now but other than that it is still very solid and very comfortable even with 8+ hours use a day.

    As someone who is sensitive to outdoors, is there a strong "new materials" or "new plastics" odour to the chair when you first get it?

    • @BGRFamily
      @BGRFamily  Před 3 lety

      I didn't find it to be particularly strong odour wise. I think usually the strongest smells come from fabric or foam and this chair only has minimal foam and fhe mesh material didn't have any smell.

    I have the same chair. Do you have any tips about how to get more height out of the chair? It seems to sit a little low causing my elbows to be less than 90° angle. Thanks!

    • @BGRFamily
      @BGRFamily  Před 3 lety

      The chair does seem to sit a bit lower than my previous chair - unfortunately I don't have anything that might help make the chair a bit higher. I assume you have adjusted the arm rest height and still have the same issue.
      One possibility is after market casters - you can get ones that are essentially like roller blade wheels that I believe would sit higher than the casters that come with the chair, I haven't tried them myself though and can't be sure.

    Big heads up on these chairs. I just got a Hyken, cheaper version of this Dexley chair. During assembly I "bricked" the ENTIRE CHAIR GAS CYLINDER FUNCTIONALITY with one simple easy to make "mistake". It wasn't my fault really as there was nothing in the instructions mentioning this could happen and I was able and got the entire chair replaced.
    Here's the scoop, the gas cylinder was in a separate box for my chair. In the thin end (top) is a light greenish plastic cylinder. You can see it sticking up from the base starting at 18:37. That plastic cylinder can fall out. Either in the box or during assembly. After putting my chair together and it failed, I found this cylinder in the box the gas cylinder came in.
    If that falls out before the last step where you sit on the chair to lock the base in place, the chair is "bricked". I think possibly this plastic cylinder punctures the gas cylinder? Activates it? Or maybe it just activates it from the handle? Anyway without that tiny bit of easy to lose plastic the chair will not go up and down at all. AND on top of that, there is absolutely no way to get the base off again once it is locked in place. I TRIED! I actually bought mine at Staples and they gave me a replacement no questions, after I explained the stupidity of the design.
    Tech support... yikes. I call the 800 number frustrated and annoyed. SHE yells at ME for being "mean". Come on. An hour putting the chair together and it doesn't work, and then find out there's no way to fix it, yes, I was a tad angry and annoyed.

    I went into staples today, sat in this chair, and fell in love with it. FIgures not one available (except for the floor model) definitely not on sale but much cheaper than the Autonomous ErgoChair Recline, which I purchased a year or two ago and have only sat in a handful of times (even had them replace the seat yet my but continued to hurt $600 for a chair it should be comfy the $40 Costco chair was comfier) this one, however, is super comfy (lumbar is always hard to get used to needs fine-tuning) So 2 years later hows it holding out for you? I have seen some complaints about the seat ripping, 🤞 that does not happen but it sounds like they have a good warranty. Thank you for the unboxing cause I missed out on that experience and I feel like I have not now haha.

    How are you enjoying the chair 4 months later? I wasn't in the boat for a new chair until mine just broke so now I'm sitting at my desk in a rock hard wooden kitchen chair doing 3 months of chair research in a single night, lol. I think I'm finally down to the dexley, but my biggest concern is the lumbar support. Does it get annoying? I'm a bit of a sloucher and like to watch videos/relax in my computer chair rather than sit at a 90 degree angle all the time. And how does the mesh compare in comfortability compared to a normal fabric padded chair? Any input is appreciated, going to staples tomorrow and hopefully they'll have one on display for me to try. Great video.

    • @BGRFamily
      @BGRFamily  Před 3 lety +1

      I am still liking mine and it is working pretty well. I do have a slight annoyance that when the chair tilt is locked it does still tilt back a bit - not my preference but some will like it. I found the lumbar annoying at first but managed to eventually get it where it is good for me, but I know some have commented that they don't like it at all. I like the mesh better than the fabric - it breathes better and seems to support more evenly - the other side of that is that the mesh provides no insulation so you can feel chilly sometimes depending on the environment. Hope that helps.
