How did you got Austin to collab?
@@gocman3 He saw a post I was made on Twitter about this Laptop and thought it was a good opportunity to colab 🙂
I miss Vista
Psivewri I tried to contact him in order to give some tips for my channel, but he did not respond (czcams.com/channels/UucBt3tvCiGZ7wRbRmFa1w.html) on Twitter, if you would give me some tips or shared my channel, it would be awesome
Dude this laptop is legendary
Hi
2 of my favorite CZcamsrs lol
Hi I'm a fan I always watch your videos
I had this laptop when it came out I had windows vista home premium on mine
Wtf does broke vs pro gaming even mean
“Could be windows 8” 😳 imagine using a windows 8 laptop, could be me....
Like using an os made for touchscreens on non touchscreen laptop 😂
@@yoann_m491 The start screen was obviously made for touchscreens but who actually used it? I used Classic Shell to give me a proper start menu and rarely had to see the start screen.
@@f1ameyy I had a Windows 8 tablet which I really liked. I loved the idea you can go from a classic desktop environment to a tablet environment. Then it forced me to upgrade - for free of course - to Windows 10 and the damn thing never worked again. #neverwindows10
Windows 8 is really underrated. Such stable and quick OS compared to Vista/7.
I also love the tiled start screen that allows for much more shortcuts.
omg we share the same dream
I still like the design of windows vista overall.
Same.
I spent like 3 hours making my copy of windows 10 look like vista
@Ard4x czcams.com/video/_pXfWAAtuLk/video.html
@Ard4x I also used a startup sound changer to change the startup sound to the login sound of vista
I think most of the hate on Windows Vista was regarding software compatibility issues. I had it for a few years back in the day and I liked it.
Nobody:
Austin: “Hello man... so the Acer Aspire 3680...”
CONGRATS With a collaboration with Austin! ;D
kevin?
Kevin lol
Kevin!!!!!!
Kevin 😂
5:27 my childhood
If you enable the startup sound on Win 10, the one introduced for Vista was kept as that was the last new start up sound for Windows going forward
An epic start to 2020 with a collab with Austin great video man.
Congrats on collabing with Austin! Your channel will surely grow to be massive!
I can't wait to see what will be happening with your channel next year, let alone the next 10 years!
omg this is a great start of 2020
you had to jinx it for all of us lmaooo
trust me it doesn't last
That didn't last to long
Are you serious? Ahahaha
you really gotta jinx us like that
This is the best video you have ever made. It goes into so much detail. Keep going for 2020 👍
jesus christ how was your birthday?
Another laid back, informative video. Thanks mate.
Quite amazing that a good few channels probably started off with hardware like this!
I got a very similar model for free many years ago that had a dead display, I took the motherboard and mounted it to a projector. It was slow and looked a complete mess, but did a fine job playing DVDs!
This was my first laptop, you brought great nostalgia when you opened it up and I remember the name Sunon on the heatsink. I think I was about 8 years old when I had it and it was a challenge taking it apart. I thought I killed it once when I put a paperclip in the VGA port and it shut off for 4 straight days then suddenly it booted overnight. It was a robust computer for sure, and I also had the half gigabyte of RAM. It was soooooooooo slow but I didn't know it cause it was also my first computer. I actually made a ton of CZcams videos with it too using Windows Movie Maker showing you how to fix little things on your computer. Yes, I used notepad and insert the song "Trance - 009 Sound System Dreamscape". Maybe if I had continued learning I would have made a hit CZcams channel, I was really into reviewing flipphones when I got a webcam.
Thanks for bringing me back- a decade and some.
Windows Aero alone brings me nostalgia
Congratulations on your collaboration efforts. I’m excited for Austin’s video as well. (:
Maaan, I have been waiting for a new video for so long, keep up the good work💪🏻
I enjoyed this video a lot. Windows vista was the primary OS as a teenager. The keyboard on that laptop looks pleasant to type on. That front audio jacks are nice. The webcam pivot is great. I would have loved to see some OSRS played on this just for nostalgia! The computer that I used as a teenager was the HP Pavilion Slimline s3307c. If you ever find one of those computers, I would like to see it on this channel! Thanks again, peace!
Phew you finally posted, it’s been a year since you posted and I was so worried if you quit or something
Finally. I freaking love your videos!!
Happy 100k! Nice work am I’m looking towards your new vintage Mac repair! 100k sure is a milestone and I hope you enjoy!

9:38 YES!!! The eucalyptus oil
Always waited for this
Finally a NEW VIDEO!!!
I WATCHED EVERY VIDEO YOU POSTED IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS!
AND ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE LAST YEAR!!!!!
I actually have FOUR of these. One running Windows XP, one on Vista, another with Windows 7, and the last sporting Fedora Linux. They were really pretty decent machines for the price, and the Fedora machine was my main laptop for a good little while. The build quality isn't half bad, the keyboard and screen are fairly nice, and the overall appearance is ressonably sleek. I was pretty happy with mine back in the day.
Does all of of your laptops still worked?
@@ablueberrya10 Last I checked, that was only 6-8 months ago.
Mine is windows 7
@@JoysonplayzYT Windows 7 ran surprisingly well on mine, although the specs would indicate it to be a bit underpowered.
@@richardadams4928 what is ur model?
I still have my old Vista PC and use it sometimes.
My dad still has a vista pc with a crt monitor it doesn’t have any internet hooked up and a copy of power dvd installed
nice to hear!
So close to 100k! CANNOT WAIT.
Your trip down memory lane with Austin Evans was terrific. My first laptop was a boxy DOS 286 machine. I traveled on business a lot and it drew a crowd when I used it at an airport or hotel. No WiFi. Dial up modem. Best wishes for the new year. Oh, and my first cell phone was a portable "bag" phone.
I KNEW THIS COLLAB WAS COMINNGGGG!!!!
Plot twist: ‘alexander’ is actually Linus

Happy New Year Psivewri and Austin Evans
Great video! Brings back memories
I remember having windows vista in 2009. It wasn’t that bad. I upgraded to Windows 7 in 2011.
Happy New Year.. I already said that on Twitter.
Nice
I remember having one of these in high school ~2007. This brings back memories even though it wasn’t that long ago.
A blast from the past- it is amazing to see how much technology has come on since 2007!
Congrats on this collab, dude. I assume you joined the MCN he's in?
I'm not apart of any MCN 🙂
Good
@@psivewri Great! Then this is the first genuine collab I've seen in a while, lol. Double-congrats! I hope tomorrow you get a massive sub boost, you deserve it.
Came to enjoy the video. Heard eucalyptus oil mention near the end. Leaving satisfied.
Happy 2020.
Great video. I love when CZcamsrs get together whether their channels are similar or nothing even remotely anything similar (And I don't mean the big guys just colabing for likes). I like genuine hookups like this.
I'm a huge fan of your channel. Your videos are great!
Hey that’s me!
Fuck off vista.your a nightmare
Hey give vista some credit, without it. We would never know how to make windows 7.

Legend
Hello you absolute legend!
It's a laptopception

Ooooh I see that CPU is socketed, I see room for an upgrade. Perhaps a Core 2 Duo!?
I suspect TDP issues unless you could modify the heatsink would make this a no goer! no brainer is to use a light variant of linux!
@@welshtechie6832 yes I thought that too, I didn't research which chip the lappy currently has. Perhaps an older 65nm celery? If so a more efficient 45nm core 2 and making sure its tdp is the same, or lower.
Doubt it could handle a duo
Pentium dual core has a tdp of 31 watts from 2007 the t2350 is 1.87 GHz dual core Linux still has support for Intel 9gpu run like lubuntu on it or xubuntu
That was my thought. Pick up a T7400 for about $5 on the bay, put it in there, and install Linux and that old machine will be completely useful for everyday tasks.
Waiting for this channel subscribers to blow up with the AE collaboration! Well deserved!
Collab between my two of my favorite CZcamsrs! Both of you guys are on my recommended channel list😄😄
Why not upgrade its processor?
yeah, that processor is very old and even it cannot run Windows 10, and that Processor only works with Vista Home Basic.
9:02 you forgot to put thermal paste to the gpu
It actually used a rather tall thermal pad (Which seemed to be in good condition still). If I went ahead and just used thermal paste it wouldn't have even made contact with the heatsink.
If you go to 8:50 you can see there is an old thermal pad or paste stuck on the heatsink. I am guessing he did not remove it. The same goes for the mosfets right beside the CPU.
Love your vids!
Just subscribed to Austin Evans..like the look of his channel content 😀 Have a great 2020
imagine taking this out at school or starbucks instead of a macbook
From my experience, bringing something like this will actually get you more attention than a Macbook. I brought an old ThinkPad (complete with XP!) and everyone asked about it and thought that it was a gaming laptop!
@@SilverSonic1992 would agree. Macbooks are so common nowadays that it seems all too easy to ignore. Had a Toshiba C-50A for a while that got some of the same responses.
I would gladly bring a gem like this on a daily. For 3 years i had Vista with SP1 there were never issues i experienced with it.
Sadly I have desktop
@@CombatHD3 macbooks*
1,6GHz Celeron, my god.
Nice work as usual 😊 I still have my Acer Aspire 3690 running Ubuntu 12.04.5 😊
Great video, and congratulations for collaboration with Austin. I also got old HP Probook 4525S for free, but unfortunately motherboard was dead on that one. I managed to find a replacement one for like 50$, and it works without a single problem now. It's running Windows 7 and it has dual core AMD Phenom CPU. I upgraded RAM from 2GB to 4GB, and there is 320GB HDD inside. It's a cool laptop to mess around with, but unfortunately limiting factor is GPU which is not too good. It's some old ATI chip, and I tried running Mafia 2 on it, but it struggles even on low settings. But yeah, it was basically free, so I don't mind it.
Him: Is a Vista machine still usable today?
Me: It was not even usable back then.
Worked fine for me
girlsdrinkfeck To be honest, Vista was an unusable mess. Installing Vista turned reasonable fast computers of its time into slow mailing machines. Would be interesting to benchmark Vista against Win7 on the same machine.
actually people thought windows vista was bad because they had installed it on their old computers from like 2001 and couldn't get drivers for their old printers that the printer manufactuer never made new drivers for
@@AaBb-mc9sp That Laptop showing in the video showing that it can only run Vista Home Basic (if you look at the stickers at the laptop).
Windows Vista will run fast if you have Service Pack 2 and Platform Update (and Platform Update Supplement) installed on Vista.
Only the RTM version was horrible.
Aa Bb That’s not true. I had to manage a bunch of Thinkpad T61 notebooks which where very decent for it‘s time.
Some of my clients wanted Vista, some stuck to Windows XP.
Core2Duo
120GB SSD
2GB RAM
Using Windows XP, the machines just ran fine. Installing Windows Vista on them made them terribly slow. The machines where swapping all the time, even with no applications running. Using Widgets made it even worse. Even maxing our the RAM to 4GB did not make it better. Installing Windows 7 helped.
Laptops like this are the reason why people hated Vista so much. Underpowered for everything over XP.
i have a laptop with a Celeron M 380 (One in the video has a 370) and it came with XP, even has a "designed for XP" sticker.
Also, the graphics have no official drivers for vista. The laptop OEM must have force installed the XP drivers (it does work, just without aero)
This is awesome.. I so so hope this gets more views
Vista wasnt that bad
Depends some versions are super buggy
@@SortofGoodwithTech sp3 w/ extended kernel is good tho imo
@@ignistrum my win vista laptop doesn’t have that it can’t even handle the calculator for a while it just divides numbers as soon as you put them in and settings quits if certain settings are changed
I never got a like 🙁☹️
Legendary collaboration, excelent video
Hope you get a big bump in subs for this colab with Austin, hopefully it'll push you over the magic 100k subs mark. As a fellow creator (not this account) I wish you all the best in reaching that milestone, I'm not quite half way there myself.
Happy new year,happy new decade!!!
Thank you so much for this Video
I had one of these back in the day also, all the memories. It looks like the CPU was socketed, may want to revisit this in the future and try to put a core 2 duo in to it to see if that gets anywhere with minecraft. I would bet a CPU from an early MacMini would work in it though I have not looked in to that.
finally, someone from Adelaide getting noticed on youtube!
Good luck with your 100k subs
Great video! I wonder how MX Linux would run on the 3680? Or even anTix? Maybe one day you can install one of these and see.
Great Video! Always enjoy looking at old hardware and how it performs many years later. I have a old Compaq Laptop from around 2008 if you would like to do a video on it? im an Aussie ;)
How can you not enjoy this man's videos, he is so polite. Thank you for the great content I've learned a lot watching your videos. Cheers mate from Wisconsin USA I've been to Sydney beautiful city and Melbourne also awesome city.
Happy to see the collab congrats brother 👍
jumped over from Austin. You got yourself a new sub!
Happy New year to you psivewri
Psivewri was in 2020 hours before the USA! No wonder he was able to give us a video so quick 🤪. Happy new year, I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Thanks I enjoy your videos❗️👍✅
love the vids
Exactly one year from 2020 RN. Wow, its 2021
Happy 100k subscribers
Great video and I noticed your Fitbit Ionic watch. How are you liking it and how long have you been wearing it? Cheers!!!
"hello guys and welcome to the first video of 2020"
man, it's so funny seeing footage of people who had no clue what was ahead lol
Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
I have hp Compaq 6910p I love it never saw the windows Vista sticker always thought it was win 7 computer now it has win 10 love your videos
Drevo has amazingly looking good keyboards :D
One thing you might be able to do with that chipset series in that laptop, is to plug a 1GB stick into the lower slot, and a 2GB module in the top slot, 3GB total system RAM should work, but only in single channel mode, which can limit the performance of the laptop.
I've done this on a couple of systems, and it performs very well despite the single channel mode
My first laptop was a similar travelmate 4200, I loved it so much that I got another and upgrades to maxed ram, cpu and ssd
It's funny you bring this up today. I have a Toshiba dual core Vista laptop, that came new with a screaming 1gb of ram. It worked, but did everything super slow. I had to update the ram to make it usable.
The OS was quite usable with with the ram upgrade, but Vista was still a resource hog.
Thanks for the video Scarce
The first laptop i've ever used was when my parents rented one. I believe it was a Gateaway Laptop runned by Windows Xp. Pretty much had like a week to use that since Laptops back in the day was somewhat expensive for my Parents use.
Great video as always!
I had a similar Acer Laptop and you could actually swap the cpu from a celeron to a Core2Duo. Perhaps yours can be upgraded as well? It sure looked like that in the video :>.
Nice video mate.
Right now I'm watching this video on my 2007 Acer Aspire 4930 with Windows Vista Home Premium on it and with the same macbook wallpaper that is soo strange and heartwarming for me
Your channel is gonna blow up since your doing a Colab with him I’m glad about that 😉
I'm glad I learned about the Eucalyptus oil application that's gonna come in handy. I remember Vista and also remember liking XP a lot more back in the day, until windows 7 showed up that is :-)
This was the laptop I had when I was first experiencing the internet, we didn't even have wifi yet, all we had was dial-up.
I had a couple ancient laptops running Windows 98 and 95 (an IBM Thinkpad and Toshiba Satellite with a grayscale display, respectively) prior to this one, but the Acer Aspire 3680, without the webcam, was the first "modern" laptop I'd ever used at the time and I used it for a long time, even after the display got snapped off in an accident lol.
Good video! I've just upgraded my sister's old Acer Aspire 5612WLMi bought in 2006, with an IDE SSD drive, Windows 7 ThinPC x86 to add to the previous upgrade in 2012 of Core2 Duo T7200 CPU and 3GB RAM. It boots in under 30 seconds and is quick and responsive with everything, and possibly good for another few years yet! It originally came with Windows XP, Core Duo T2300 CPU, 1GB RAM and 80GB IDE drive. However her next laptop will be a Lenovo Thinkpad from either T or W range.
I used a "Drevo" hard drive for two years and it was excellent, I bought it from Ebay but I was surprised for its performance, totally recommended
I would love to see a challenge series. People would send in their laptops and you should see if you can repair it or get it running! I have a Powerbook G4 that I cannot for the life of me get an OS installed on. That could be your first challenge!
