  • This is not a concept car, this is the world’s first purpose fully autonomous robot taxi created by Zoox and today it’s taking me on the busy roads of Las Vegas.
The bi-directional fully electric, fully autonomous vehicle has no steering wheel and comes with a top speed of 75mph. It will be hitting the roads of Las Vegas before being rolled out in San Fransisco. I had a look behind the scenes at some of the tech involved to create it and at how you can hail the robotaxi through the Zoox app.
    Huge thanks to : ‪@ZooxCZcams‬ , zoox.com

She end up not explaining the main reason why the car is symmetrical. It's mainly because of production cost reasons.
One of the things that make a car expensive to produce is the molds made to produce the body panels. They are VERY expensive. Which is one of the reasons a car is only cost effective if made in large numbers. So in order to make it cheaper to produce, the best way is to cut on the quantity of molds. Also since the glasses used are also symmetrical, this also helps reduce cost of production (car glass is also very expensive to produce).
With the car being symmetrical, you cut the cost of molds and glass by half. Plus it becomes cheaper to replace parts, since you have way more similar parts that can be used on several cars, on both sides, front or back. Instead of needing that one specific new piece that only fits on that one specific place in the car.

It doesn't matter whether it would be a Ferrari, a simple Ford truck, fuel or electric engines: they all became obsolete! A car like this means no need to buy a car for most people. And for those that use cars all day long it should a more economical option, and without any hidden costs nor liabilities. Wonderful!

I see this replacing cars in a lot of urban areas but in suburban neighborhoods and out in the middle of nowhere their effectiveness might really start to drop off compared to personal owned vehicles, say for example a lawn care business that needs to carry around lawn mowers and weed wackers, or a family that is late to an event and doesn't have time to wait for a zoox to come to their house first

This will never work especially in a high traffic area and what die it do I a snow storm or hard rain or if the electricity goes out this thing is no good. 😂😅

This legit looks a convenient way to commute, i can see it being actually useful than just being gimmicky, it doesn't deviate away from the whole idea of taxi and that's the reason for having good potential for future, but one thing to see in future is whether zoox can survive due to other companies being keen on developing their own tech, and also zoox has to think about the conventional taxi industry, which involves multi billion dollar companies like uber, and also all the drivers who would show heavy resistance to this tech, and all the taxi hailing companies joining hands in crushing this tech, or they may just end up joining hands with zoox..... I think a hybrid model where both taxi drivers and driverless taxis exist should be there,

I think the inspired by a horse and carriage design thing is an after thought to make it sound nice. It couldn’t “literally” look like anything unless you just mean cosmetic choices. An autonomous car is going to either look much like a normal car or it will feel more like a small light rail carriage. Once you get rid of the traditional car design it would come down to how many people you want to fit in it. This seems like a pretty obvious, practical way to set it up, 4 seats facing the middle with sliding doors on both sides. I would be surprised if other aspiring robo taxi companies havent done hundreds of similar drawings in planning their own vehicles.

Ride share is an important fabric of transportation these days. For you to make that statement without considering low pay, ANGRY passengers who vomit in your car, and a list of countless others things, Id say if you catch a driver on a bad day, there's a pretty legit reason for it and its nothing personal. I just found gum smeared all on my backseat floor and guess who won't be getting payed for the damage!
