- St. Augustine was a memory master I've been asked about often.
People want to know if there's anything practical they can use from his philosophy of memory, specifically when it comes to the Memory Palace technique and mnemonics.
Yes, but the real value here is about the organization and categorization of knowledge in your pursuit of self-awareness.
When you understand how he described memory and the ultimate mnemonic device God himself used to remember information, you'll have something far better than practical information.
You'll have food for thought that feeds you forever.

I'm learning some Latin prayers just for the memory value alone. This show is so helpful. You have no idea!
Latin is so much fun!
Thanks so much for your support - it's been key to making videos like this possible!
I am amazed by what a positive contribution you are making to the resurgence of Western spirituality and mind sciences. This video and many of the ones you have made recently are worth far more than anyone could ever pay for them.
Agreed!!!!
Thanks as always for your kind words and support!
Even when something is wrong one must learn why it wrong to know better.
It certainly is useful to spend time at least trying to figure that out. 🙏
Another master piece. I specially like the part beyond memory without memory of what we are looking for. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
That part is indeed interesting. Thanks so much for stopping by! 🙏
This is so amazing, actually works. I believe the process to acquire a language is a repetitive work in order to create that image that you are talking about. Thanks!!
🙏
Big fan of Saints Augustine and Thomas Aquinas - they are remarkable on memory methods.
🙏
As always another Superb rendition here via this video. I continue to share your works-they should be part of ALL educational facilities, it's so important now and for our legacy too, in my humble opinion! Thanks so much for what you do , and how you do it.
Thanks so much, Bill. Always appreciate you kind words and support!
I agree with this. I learnt a skill to memory and I found myself using it next to straight away. It was like installing a program
🙏
Thanks for sharing what you're reading!
I really appreciate your reminders to break down information so that it fits more easily into our pre-existing mental spaces, and to recognize when we need new ones.
Thanks for checking this one out and for your support as always.
Yes, I'm thinking of making "What I'm Reading" a regular feature... at least, we'll see if enough people seem to like it. These days, the data reveals all.
I don't know if you saw it, but on one of the other MMM channels, I'm experimenting with also sharing some of the scientific articles I'm reading and various ideas that arise from them:

Thanks so much! Somehow I missed that! I love me some good white pages. @@AnthonyMetivierMMM
Another GREAT masterclass! WOW - going to watch it again right now 🙌
Thanks as ever, enjoy and look forward to your thoughts on ye olde Augustine! 🙏
So wonderfully thought provoking. Thanks
🙏
Awesome video! This also REMINDED me about how later followers of Augustine (or his method) were violently persecuted...Bruno, Galileo, the Jansenists in France, etc. Heck, even Martin Luther (originally an Augustinian Monk), wanted us to REMEMBER what the Scriptures actually said, rather than depend on a priesthood and religious bureaucracy to explain to us...
Thanks for raising this angle. It’s funny how the truth so often seems to be at odds with sovereignty in every era…
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I have more to say, will be in touch (and may purchase some of your material)
Fantastic.
Many thanks! Are you currently using any memory techniques yourself at the moment?
great video!
🙏
Do you have a video with your thoughts on the trivium and quadrivium?
I do teach both, yes, but only during one of my live cohort courses. The next one will probably be in August or September.
When St Augustine is talking about discovering knowledge that is already in his memory, he sounds like he's alluding to the Akashic Records. Did anyone else get that impression?
Wouldn’t he have needed a time machine to encounter that concept?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM If the theory is true, it would still have been there, albeit nameless.
The theory makes such an extraordinary claim that I'm not sure an "if" is warranted.
Have you seen this "if" episode of the podcast where a memory expert talks about getting into "remote viewing"?
czcams.com/video/j240eFZNq04/video.html
I don't think that realm passes the "if" test either, even if such things provide interesting angles to think through.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM @AnthonyMetivierMMM It's dangerous to dismiss out chase the improbable. I did watch your video, and things like psychic abilities I personally hope can be true, but I haven't seen proof. But such a place, even if it's not shared, could be where our ideas form; a collection of a person's knowledge.
I believe that place is called the internet.
You might like Spinoza on this matter as well. He had a non-mystical explanation for how information flows through individuals across time. I might talk about it eventually.
