Bebo Valdés [(born Dionisio Ramon Emilio Valdes Amaro), (Quivican, Cuba, 9 October 1918 - Stockholm, Sweden, 22 March 2013)] was a Cuban pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger. He was a central figure in the golden age of Cuban music, led two famous big bands, and was one of the 'house' arrangers for the Tropicana Club.

Israel "Cachao" López (September 14, 1918 -- March 22, 2008) was a Cuban musician and composer who helped popularize mambo in the United States in the early 1950s.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, won several Grammy Awards, and has been described as "the inventor of the mambo". He is considered a master of descarga (Latin jam sessions).

Israel "Cachao" López (La Habana, 14 de septiembre de 1918, Coral Gables - 22 de marzo de 2008, Miami), a menudo conocido simplemente como "Cachao", fue un músico y compositor cubano. Se convirtió en una leyenda de la música cubana con su magistral manejo del contrabajo y se destacó por sus actuaciones musicales en el mambo y el jazz afrocubano. Su talento lo llevó a obtener dos premios Grammy (en 1995 y 2005), un Grammy latino en 2003, el título de Doctor Honoris Causa otorgado por el prestigiado Berklee College of Music y una estrella en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood. Carlos "Patato" Valdés (November 4, 1926 - December 4, 2007) was a Cuban-born American conga player. In 1955 he emigrated from Cuba to New York City where he played with Willie Bobo in Harlem. He was also known by the name "Patato". He invented and patented the tunable conga drum (earlier drums had nailed heads) which revolutionized use of the instrument. Tito Puente called him "the greatest conguero alive today".

En 1955 emigró de Cuba a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde tocó con Willie Bobo en Harlem. También fue conocido por el nombre de "Patato". Inventó y patentó la conga ajustable (batería anteriores se había clavado en la cabeza) que revolucionó el uso del instrumento. Tito Puente, lo llamó "el más grande conguero vivo hoy".

They are the holy trinity of Latin jazz: pianist Bebo Valdés, the music director of the Tropicana and father of Chucho Valdés; bassist Israel "Cachao" Lopez, the mambo and descarga innovator; and percussionist Carlos "Patato" Valdes, who played with greats from Cuba to California. These masters were showcased in the documentary and soundtrack Calle 54. On this CD, which translates as "The Art of Flavor," they sprinkle zesty Afro-Caribbean seasonings on 17 swinging Cuban classics. Tunes like "Lamento Cubano," "Son de la Loma," and "Negro de Sociedad" are interpreted as tasty trio arrangements. Alto saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera adds his sophisticated solos to the compositions "Priquitin Pin Pon," "Ogguere," and "Romance en la Habana." Bebo Valdes's elegant ivory ticklings on the Cubop-tinged hit, "Route 66," pays homage to the great Nat "King" Cole, who recorded Holiday in Havana with Valdes in the '50s. All told, this selection offers a sonic snapshot of Cuba's elegant pre-Revolutionary jazz scene.
