    I think that the obsession with straight hair is not because it's straight, but because it shows length (a common goal). I've always wanted very long hair, but I didn't want to have to straighten it to see the length. I wanted it somewhat curly or wavy but still very long 💯

      Yeah I understand, but thats what weave is for to be honest. Like my hair grew so much this year compared to all my life because i would constantly wear braids or leave it out and i notice i dont get much length or i lose it and then when i went to weave where i braid my hair underneath and then style my weave and it look so natural. My real
      Hair underneath grew so much to the point it like the length of my weave

    • @daisiesandpandas1218
      @daisiesandpandas1218 Před 2 lety +1

      Why do you believe hair is only fun when it's loose and out? Braids twists and Cornrows can be fun too. I see a lot of these comments and I'm just worried there a lot of people who feel that the styles that our hair doesn't thrive in is more fun, that's the path of frustration right there.
      It's less frustrating to fall in love with braids, twists and cornrows (I don't do wigs, weaves or synthetic hair though).
      If my hair tells me it's thriving in some style, that style becomes beautiful to me lol. So I've chosen mini braids for majority of the time and loose for short term, but not simply special occasions because that's saying loose hair is only for special moments. I can wear loose to an appointment at the doctor's for example lol
      Ooh and if you do mini braids on stretched hair you can enjoy your length too

    I just found your channel and I love your videos already. Lol I was just telling my sister this is me... But with longer hair 😂 I've been natural all my life but really started on my hair journey in 2014. My hair stays in 2-strand twists unless I put weave in.
    Questions: do you have any issues with dandruff and if so what products do you use? Also, have you found washing every 5 weeks to have any bad impacts on your hair. Normally I wash my hair every 3 weeks. But it's gotten harder to do that because of kids lol so I'm thinking about washing it every 5 weeks too. However, I'm not sure about this due to my dandruff issues. Also, what products do you use? I'm a Shea Moisture product junkie but I'm always on the lookout for good products and moisturizers. Thanks!

      JaNaye Major I actually used to have realllllyyyy BAD dandruff towards the beginning of my hair growth journey. My scalp would always feel dry and flakey. To get rid of the dandruff I started healing my scalp with one of my FAVORITE hair products which is Palmers Olive Oil formula (it comes in an average sized container and has the consistency of greese) if your looking to heal your scalp from dandruff, I would recommend using this product to moisturize your scalp. I use it on my hair a lot but I feel like it benefits my scalp much more.
      I use to wash my hair every 8-9 weeks in the beginning of my growth journey; however, I soon found out that I saw more growth when I washed my hair more frequently. Now, my hair is waaaaayyyyyyy to long and thick to be washing every two weeks, so I just opted to washing my hair every 4-5 weeks. I have been doing this for the past 4 or so years and it has benefited me tremendously. Washing my hair every 4-5 weeks has defiantly contributed to my hair growth because it allows me to just leave my hair aloe and just let it grow. In retrospect, I would not advise following this same method if you don’t believe that it will benefit your hair, this is just my personal experience.
      In terms of your last question, I am a very simplistic person when it comes to my hair. I actually only use 6 staple products on my hair. I have a video on the five products that I use on my hair. If you have time, please check it out. I explain the use and benefits of each product and I also include my favorite moisturizer. However, I failed to include my most recent new hair product which is the Camille rose Curl Maker. It is amazing at moisturizing and creating curls on all hair types, I typically use this product for when I am styling my hair or if i just want to moisturize my hair

    Did she just say her sister flat ironed her hair ONCE and she got heat damage?? Did she use heat protectant? Because you should be able to straighten your hair 1-4 times a year without it ruining your natural hair...

    I've been natural for two years now and I've never trimmed it. I should really see what's going on up there. So do you (I'm asking you personally) blow dry it then trim or blow dry it, flatiron it then trim because I'm scared to put heat on my head.

    I’m low porosity and I really hate using heat. I saw what it could do to my hair. But I use heat protectant and only use heat no more than 4 times a year. I like to use the baggy method overnight. I trim whenever I need it like every 3-6 months. I recently started protective styling with two strand twists with my hair and I’m loving the results. I recommend the aloe plant for hair growth I’m loving it and my hair be moisturized for over a week alone ITS AMAZING.

      What's your moisture regime? I am 18 months post BC....I'm retaining length. I still have to spray my hair daily with water/aloe/feenugreek spritz to keep moist. I'm gonna try Shea butter and castor oil as my sealant.

    I don't know if my question will make sense but, is it okay not to moisturize it for 2/3 days if it still feels oily, only when it feels dry that you can moisturize? And is it okay to moisturize my scalp if I don't want to undo my protective style?

    • @NaturalAcademia
      @NaturalAcademia  Před 4 lety

      If you feel the need to moisturize your hair, then by all means do so. Hair composition varies by person so there is no definite answer for when you should moisturize your hair. If you are not comfortable with protective styling, I would advised keeping your hair and scalp as moisturized as possible whenever your hair is out.

    I didnt know I was supposed to get trims. I've been natural all my life but I never did my own hair so these days I noticed that I had split ends up going up my hair. I just pulled the whole strands out. And now, because I do my hair myself, I cut at the areas where my ends don't coil. Cuz I do twists on my hair a lot. Or on the occasion if I blow-dry it, I'll trim it then.

      Hey!! Thank you, I really appreciate you for your support 😊 ❤️ In regards to your question, I would say your moisturizing regimen depends on your hair’s ability to take in and retain moisture. I like to moisturize my hair at LEAST once or twice a week depending on the style.

    Hi! 😊 I have a cuestión, does the Herbal Essence shampoo that you use sulfate in it's composition?

    • @NaturalAcademia
      @NaturalAcademia  Před 4 lety +10

      Jamel Feliz Yes, the shampoo does contain sulfates. I do not typically always wash my hair with this often due to that specific reason; although it allows grime and dead skin cells to be removed from my scalp, It can also cause the hair to be TOO clean when used excessively. I really appreciate you for asking and I hope this was helpful 😊❤️
