    In summary:
    1) barely washed hair
    2) didn't use heat
    3) didn't use treatments
    4) no excessive styling
    5) not obsessed with tracking growth
    6) didn't use combs
but still watch because eventually she does use some heat and treatment :)

I definitely agree on “no use of abundance of products” that becomes SO overwhelming. And especially forget about those expensive products. Not to say one should choose cheap products, but just to be mindful that every product shouldn’t be expensive b/c there are less expensive good products out there. I totally get you about treatments. It gets tiring after a while. But I know hair still grow w/o treatments, even if it’s not a speedy growth.

I don’t think it’s the not washing that makes the hair grow, that’s just her thing. You can wash your hair in braids or twists. Wash only the scalp and it will still grow because in reality if she moisturises every 5 days , it’s the same thing whether you Wash or not. It’s just how. For example I only comb my hair when it’s deep conditioned and I have very minimal shedding. Extremely minimal, One year and my hair is down my chest. I don’t have the genetically long hair , I don’t . So I do treatments before I wash, my scalp is also sensitive so I don’t oil. I itch after 5 days or 7 max so I must wash so I only use moisturising shampoos . Now she can sulphates cos she washes her hair after months which is the same thing. No sulphates and once in two months ; sulphate. It’s pretty much the same thing.

@@connieholmes9047 it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis since that's what I have. My scalp hates oils and my hair doesn't agree with them either. I used to wash once a month when relaxed but since I've gone natural my scalp went nuts and i wash every 2 weeks. Certain products I've used when my hair was straight I can no longer use, like that suave coconut shampoo and conditioner, it set my scalp on fire after a few months.

I would just wash my locs with shampoo. Sometimes with just water and would only moisturize with water and oil. I want to continue doing this with my loose hair and see how it goes. Less is definitely more.

Typically, whenever I let my hair out within the 3-4 times in a month that I do, I just record like 3 videos in one day (I recorded this particular video two weeks before uploading it, My hair is now washed and in big braids). Also, I don’t feel pressure to let my hair for the camera. I’d rather wear my big braids.

I love your hair. I feel like it’s so rare to find CZcamsrs with 4c hair that is as long as yours.
I’ve been natural for like 8 years. I have to wash my hair frequently - 1 to 2 times a week - because I have psoriasis, so I have to manipulate my hair often. I am not sure how long my hair is because I never really check, but it’s probably around BSL. I think it’d be cool to have WL hair. I never wear my hair down, but I just think it’d be fun to get to run my hands along hair that long. I also have relatively thin hair, and I’ve found that length can help make high-shrinkage hair look more voluminous.
I’m glad you are showing the world long, 4c hair through your channel. I also really love how low maintenance your routine seems!

I think you’re right about protective styling. I used to wear yarn box braids all the time for the first 5 years of my journey, it thin out my hair so bad (well a combination of that and neglect). It’s all about balance for me now

    • @Irene_Mirasi
      @Irene_Mirasi Před 3 lety +4

      Yarn dries out your hair.
      It's absorbent.
I've been a natural for almost two years now, and hiding it under synthetic hair and braids is what has helped me so much. I did yarn braids like twice when I began my journey, mainly cause I was naive and loved a good locs look without actually putting my hair in locs. After learning more about hair and tension, I realized that the yarn was too tight on my scalp, coupled with the fact that it absorbed more moisture and left my hair dry. A recommendation for yarn braids is to coat it in shea butter to seal it and prevent it from absorbing moisture. All in all, stop doing the yarn braids and try other means of protective styling, use grease intermittently with oil, and other changes according to your preferences.
Pray for your hair as well. Include Jesus in it☺️

In regards to your question, the wooden combs work amazing. When I used it on my hair and it glided through like butter. I typically use them when I am braiding my boyfriends hair. It really helps speed up the detangling process on his hair and is very gentle ( my boyfriend bought his wooden combs from amazon for like $15 and he has four of them)

It's not dirt, it's leaving your hair alone. Cos even shampooing is manipulation. And also when people shampoo, that's usually the end of a style, leading to more manipulation to take it down and restyle.

Did you wash your hair right after you took the braids out out, or did you just leave your hair alone? The excessive shedding may just be the shedded hair that was trapped while it was in braids. If so, that’s completely normal.

Trimming the hair. I feel like Trimming every 6-8 weeks is a myth. If you take care of your hair, you won’t have to trim so damn often. Trimming twice a year is good for me.
