Galicia es un tesoro en la cultura española, ya que mantienen sus raíces celtas. Eso se nota en sus leyendas y cultura.
The reason for the windows is to keep the house warm. These type of windows are very typical in Galicia, they are called "galerías" and work better when they are the South face. The stone facade is actually behind them making a narrow space so the glass makes a greenhouse efect and the heat stays there, between the wall and the window. As the wall has a very high thermical inertia, it slowly lets the warm air get inside the house during all day and night. Then the stone walls can keep the interior temperature for a long time. This is something people already knew two centuries ago. We can also see these windows in modern buildings, made in aluminium or PVC, but only with (wrong) aesthetical purposes. Since they are installed in a normal room and don't have the same structure, they don't work the same way.

"In the 18th century, the increasing availability of glass and its use as a construction material in ships facilitated the transfer of technology in maritime cities such as A Coruña and Ferrol," the architect details. The flat glass, produced in the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja (Segovia), was sent to the Ferrol town to glaze the stern of the great Spanish galleons since 1759. «Imitating the construction of ships, the Galician gallery originated as a solution for the enclosure of exterior balconies, using glass with a wooden frame wrapping stone masonry buildings -explains Rem Koolhaas-. The ability of this set of glass, air and masonry to act as a climatic device quickly became evident and triggered a systematic application, first in the neighborhood of [A] Magdalena in Ferrol, and then in A Coruña and Pontedeume, neighboring cities with similar climates and also linked to naval technologies ”.
I also want to say that Orzan is a natural beach, but the construction of an underground parking and a promenade in the 20th century, modified the original position of the beach, changed the currents in the area and began to lose sand on the beach of the Orzan, so it was necessary to fill the beach with a material very different from the original fine sand, since this was too expensive

Elliot, yo que soy Gallega creo que aquí ya no llueve tanto como antes, por lo que he visto en los vídeos de Asturias allí no paraba de llover (me sorprendió) y aquí teníamos un tiempo excelente. Estrella Galicia es una de las mejores cervezas del mundo, y '1906' de Estrella Galicia, es la mejor del mundo desde el año 2018. El vídeo buenísimo, como siempre!. Que gusto ver el mar con esas playas de arena blanca, precioso!!!!! que bonito todo.
Buenos mis amigos gallegos me dijeron que todo junio y julio fue lluvioso así que bueno.. suele hacer bien clima en verano como en el vídeo pero hemos visto tanta evidencia de clima recientemente.. y la chica stephany en el video me presentó la estrella Galicia hace dos años (cuando llegué a espana) y me enganché inmediatamente jaja. Y pensé que las estrellas saben mejor en Galicia pero no sé si es verdad
Mira por internet el meteo SAT,es muy raro,las nubes llegan a Portugal,giran 90° y dan la vuelta en Galicia otros 90° y se van metiendo por Asturias en Francia

Elliot, si pasas por Foz (provincia de Lugo) podrás encontrar la catedral más antigua de España, San Martín de Mondoñedo.
Antiguamente las galerías llenas de cristales las construían los mismos carpinteros que hacían los barcos, barcos antiguos, igual que los que salen en las películas,estos barcos de madera tenían en la popa una galería, para que al capitán y a la tripulación le entrará la luz y el sol, y así se hizo en el puerto casas parecidas a barcos por detrás que les entra la luz del sol calentando las casas,aún funciona su diseño,y su rentabilidad para retener calor en invierno 👍😎👏👏👏👏

La playa de Riazor es natural, siempre fue playa, pero como es tan concurrida y famosa, pues desde los años 90 es cuidada y rellenada, los temporales arrastran arena y rompen el paseo marítimo. Pero Riazor siempre fue importante.

Hey David thanks.. yes I was there at a good time.. we couldn’t have had a more picturesque scene. August is definitely the best month but it’s short lived. The rest of the year there can be pretty depressing unless you’re from the UK (and used to it)
@@AdventureElliot yes indeed. Well we get our fair share of bad weather in the U.K. with rainfall, but we also get some fantastic very warm weather but is usually short lived. Very interesting the weather these days everywhere as it is changing before our eyes, sometimes drastically. You seem to be attracting women from all over the world and every video you seem to have one or two additions. Ha ha

Las playas de Orzán/Riazor no fueron hechas por el hombre. Llevan muchísimos años ahí. Lo que sucede es que después de hundimiento del petrolero "Mar Egeo" tuvieron que cambiar la arena, que quedó inpregnada de petróleo (chapapote le llamamos allí).

It is a display of Celtic traditions, music, food, and and overall good time. The festivities are around the clock. It’s of cultural interest with beautiful traditions from sunrise to sunset. Las galerías son cámaras de aire para que las casas estén más templadas, y que pase la luz. Se empezaron a construir cuando se instalaron los astilleros de la Armada en Ferrol, llevándose a ellos cristales desde otras reales fábricas, y la ciudad más importante cercana a Ferrol era Coruña. Tradicionalmente son de madera y cristal, aunque ahora se hacen de materiales que requieren menos mantenimiento

The weather there is pretty nice most of the time the other day on Feb 19th it was 20C, it was warmer than most parts of Spain even on Costa brava and Blanc's, and before that they had a few weeks in Jan, Feb at around 18 degrees c thats a lot warmer than Southern England and and most of Europe like Denmark the Netherlands, Germany, most of France, Poland, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania and so on, it can feel fairly warm like spring compared to most of Europe as those countries get minus and barely above 6,C on some days, proper winter weather, and it isn't to over bearingly hot in the summer to with a sea breez and the rain can be welcomed every now and then, there's a lot of the city u didn't show 😉 like the bridges going over the Miro river, to the east areas like Santa Cristina a very nice beach and areas like el perillo, choupana O graxal o seixal and A veiga being on the East side of the river, with Santa Cruz plus the medieval bridge near the urban centre of the city, plus Eris park, it has about 7 different underground tunnels, and san amaro and oza beach plus 8 other smaller ones, I could mention many other wondrous places but it will take while, u got the main matadero, orzan and riazor beach, the Riazor football stadium 🏟️ is the closest one in the world to the sea, a short but great vid,

Los Españoles , desconocemos lo que tenemos , estamos ensimismados en cosas vagas y superficiales , cuando ves a un extranjero , alucinar por cosas cotidianas de la cultura Española , te das cuenta como Español lo poco que tenemos en cuenta nuestra tierra y lo que ella conforma , me gustan este tipo de canales por que nos demuestran , lo cegados que estamos, por los que dan una mala propaganda , o se basan en los que unos u otros dicen o dejan de decir de este país y que mucha gente se ve arrastrada por malas experiencias de otros o por temas políticos , me gusta que gente como Elliot demuestre que no es así y que ellos se queden enamorados por algo que de otra forma no hubiesen conocido y no por influencias externas , si no por el mismo.

La ciudad de cristal , se hacían esas cristaleras por que ayudaban a la casa a mantenerse caliente , es una zona donde daba el sol y se calentaba todo el día y ayudaba a tener la casa caliente y que no se perdiera el calor en el interior

in Galicia are top-notch, wide, white sandy beaches, with Atlantic Seas, breaks, waves, surfing, fishing, seafood, beers,
sun (at least some of the time) It was mentioned a huge amount of people emigrated from Galicia to the Americas,
and if I were to guess, they would of looked for places that looked like "home", although in the Green Landscapes of
the Americas, that would be many places..............Just one thing about the heroine Maria Pita, some bananas might
be wondering, was she a "Pita bread" from Eastern shores?? No, No, No - the Eastern bananas, named their "bread"
after the noteworthy Galician heroine Maria Pita, after "rallying the troops" for a fightback, but given the massive walls,
surrounding even the beaches, and rising up & up, towards the ramparts, forts, murallas, the casco viejo & the citadel,
it would have been a tough assignment, even for the British soldiers, who were already "high in spirits" after defeating
the famous "Spanish Armada" a year earlier in 1588. Tough luck for King Phillip 2, as he went back to the drawing-board.

The galerías, as they are called in Spanish, are the result of two constants in Galician life: ships and rain. Ship-makers in nearby Ferrol borrowed the design from the sterns of Spanish galleons to create galerías as a way to enjoy the pleasures of a balcony with the realities of Galician weather.

Elliot porque hay tantos cristales?? es muy fácil es una zona que siempre esta nublado y llueve,, por tanto hay poco sol,,, asi que si tenemos grandes fachadas llenas de cristales la claridad entrará en la s viviendas,,,, mira al sur en España hay siempre mucho sol entonces hay pocas ventanas y son pequeñas!! No es por eso, como explico en mi comentario. Es para mantener el calor del interior de la vivienda. El muro de piedra está detrás de la ventana, dejando una pequeña solaina donde el calor se queda atrapado por efecto invernadero. Por la inercia térmica del muro, el calor va entrando poco a poco en la casa y después no le deja salir, manteniéndose una temperatura agradable incluso durante la noche.
Arre cojones con que siempre llueve y esta nublado, ni que fuera el único sitio en el mundo . Somos tontos o que!!

Yo soy coruñes, nosotros somos celtas brigantinos, y nuestra cultura es muy particular Eliot, honestos y muy abiertos. esa Torre de Hércules es del siglo I, y un símbolo al Imperio de Brigantium del rey Breogan, es de la época del desaparecido Faro de Alejandria.
Como el clima alli es normalmente muy nublado y lugubre, se construyen ventanales para aprovechar la poca luz

@@dr.zurwurzel9120: no sé de donde eres, pero en A Coruña hay una media de 2.000 horas de sol al año. De "clima lúgubre", nada de nada. Más horas de sol que cualquiera ciudad marítima del norte de España. A Coruña es una ciudad hermosa y atlántica con un clima templado : no baja de los 5º centígrados en invierno, y en verano no supera los 28º mientras que en gran parte de España se cuecen a 35º o 40º. Y no lo digo yo, sino las estadísticas.
... Y en verano, no te vistas de negro.

@sansabio7928, pero qué es eso de que hace frío. En A Coruña no hay temperaturas inferiores a 5º centígrados en lo peor del invierno. En primavera y verano es una delicia, sin pasar de los 28º centígrados normalmente, mientras en la mayor parte de España se pueden estar cociendo a 40º centígrados.

Ninguna de las playas de Coruña están "hechas" por el hombre. Soy de Coruña e iba a la playa desde 1970...Lo que pasa es que la playa del Orzán y la de Riazor, cuando hay tormentas, el mar arrastra la arena hacia la carretera y se inunda todo. Por eso todos los inviernos con excavadoras se intenta crear barreras para que el mar no llegue a las calles
la playa de oza sí está hecha por el hombre porque se contruyó el puerto de oza donde estaba la antigua.

Hi Elliot, I would like to correct a major mistake. Orzán beach and Riazor beach are natural beaches. They are not man-made, but in the 90s of last century it was refilled and now seems to be a beach soybean. Your companions are not from A Coruña, they are foreigners, and that is why they do not know the history of the city. They misinformed you. In any case, it’s a good video.

Ahh crikey that’s right. I went to Panama City in 2016 and that’s when things in Venezuela got horrible so they basically were fleeing the country and got there. It was my first time solo traveling and I met a Venezuelan guy in Costa Rica who invited me to stay at his place (complete stranger). He was traveling back to Panama City to go back to work and I always wanted to go so we went together. Some woulda said it was stupid and dangerous to stay with a stranger I just met but I trusted my gut and that’s when I learned about the Venezuelan culture and people who took me in with open arms even though they had next to nothing at the time. Then stephany and her mom were staying in the same apartment complex and I met them and they made me lunch and we got to know each other and then they immigrated to Spain a few years later like hundreds of thousands of other Venezuelans.. the crazy thing is I’ve got many more stories like that but I never made videos back then. Before I ever went to Panama i had visited and studied in Costa Rica so at that point I was obsessed with Costa Rica like I am now with Spain but when I say my channel is about the Spanish speaking world it’s because I wanna go back to all those countries and document the reality and all the places

Well, I’m sure there was always somewhat of a beach there, but as you could tell there wasn’t natural sand, rather pebble rocks which gave it a nice look but it wasn’t the same as the majority of white sand beaches up north. Anyways, glad you liked the video and La Coruña :D

I lived in La Coruña for a while many years ago and I can assure you that beach has been there for decades, it's been there for ever. Maybe they top it up with artificial sand, I don't know.

Hace poco vi un documental en la BBC acerca de la armada en la que decían que si cuando la armada llegó a aguas inglesas hubiera atacado el puerto de Portsmouth hubiera hundido a la flota inglesa que estaba allí atracada. Pero los españoles pasaron de largo bajo instrucciones de reunirse con las tropas del duque de Parma

Coruña la ciudad mas bonits del mundo, es mi ciudad, solo queria corregir algo; la playa de Riazor es una playa natura( no hecha por el hombre) lo unico que en los 70 sacaron unas rocas muy grandes y tambien pusieron arena , pero me ha encantado el video .
Eso de segunda ciudad de Galicia, jajaja podríamos discutirlo, pero bueno la habrás leído por población del término municipal y vale no le daré mas vueltas... lo importante es que Te haya gustado y disfrutaras aquí, en la Ciudad donde nadie es forastero. ;)
